Ya hands down your correct. That performance is top 5 ever, can easily be top 3, arguably #1. When the movie ended I was sure a man name Daniel Plainview existed.

For me he couldn't even surpass Casey Affleck in "The assasination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford" the same year and for you he was the best of the 2000s?? Freaking subjective =]]

Jake was great in the Tom Ford movie. I think he needs to become a director though. At least for awhile. I think he has a strong personality and needs to step away from acting for a while. He was really good in that movie where he goes back in time. He and his sister and his brother in law are great together. I hope they do something together.

Totally agree with Clooney at the end: Cotillard. I think it has to be the ONE single time I've seen a young actor play an old person convincingly. Clooney is right, she was a young person playing an old person wanting to be as young as possible. Acting like that takes enormous talent. As for male, it's really hard to go past Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood. Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain is extremely close, and The Dark Knight is close to that.

I know they said this decade but... Ellen Burstyn in Requien for a Dream, by far is the best performance ive seen. Next to Charlize Theron in Monster, same as Philip Seymour Hoffman is almost every character he did, Joaquin Phoenix in The Master is just superb, Fassbender on Shame is so believable. and of course Daniel Day Lewis whos by far is maybe the best performer of this and the previous decade.

Joaquin in "the Master" would be my winner. Some overlooked performances that are easy for me to recall? Adam Sandler in "Punch Drunk Love", Colin Farrell in "Tigerland", Samantha Morton in "Minority Report" (or The Messenger), Eddie Marsan in "Happy-Go-Lucky", Terrence Howards "Hustle and Flow", Steve buscemi in "Ghost World", Judy Dench "Notes on a Scandal", Jackie earl Haley "Little Children", Billy Bob Thornton in "Bad Santa" to be honest, a unique performance. Robin Williams in "One Hour Photo", or maybe "Insomnia" (performances bleed together in my mind). Brad Pitt in Assassination of Jesse James.... D.D Lewis in "There Will be Blood" would be my second favorite performance Denzel Washington in "Training Day" being honorable mention.....not an art film, not a special movie at all....and he was really playing his first bad guy. Relative to what a movie should have been, and how an actor elevated the material? He might be the winner for me some days. Training Day was a generic premise, but he raised the whole thing by himself. Other performances that pop in my head....Jack Nicholsen in "About Schmidt", Naomi Watts in "21 Grams", Christian Bale in "The Fighter"(if that fits the decade), Bill Murray in "Lost in Translation", Charlize Theron in "Monster", Marion Cotlliard in that Edith Piaf movie, Meryl Streep in "Doubt", Christoph Waltz in "Inglorious Basterds"( if it fits the decade.), Julianne Moore in "The Hours". I overwhelmingly watch English language movies, obviously

Woody Harrelson is just on spot! Ulrich Mühe was on that one not an actor. He simply was the character. Little to nothing did he have to do in terms of expression, more so when he did not even have a line to speak (because that is how the script was written, as the silent character he was) in some of the most brilliant beats of that film. A pretty static character if you ask me and got me inside the story and his thoughts more than any other has ever before (and afterwards as well).
