Just started as a service tech, and was seeing very similar devices for hundreds on Amazon. This is exactly what I need for transmission and differential services. @MECHc3ify Жыл бұрын
@betovallejo OH man. 😂😂 yah I dont use these anymore because it's not fast enough. I use one that's designed for transmission service but is basically the same thing just beefed up. Runs off of shop air (with no air dryer.. oh boy...) or you can pump it manually. How else are you going to fill a side will? Not with a funnel 🤭 I've done dozens by this point, including my own, a 300k mi Camry, never had an issue. I've never had a single come back let alone someone's transmission being completely destroyed from water 😂😂😂 You would have to really, intentionally put some water in there. You do realize that transmissions are vented & accumulate condensation moisture inside them just like engines do? Except when everything gets up to temp, any water in there will just boil out & come out the vent tube, as it's made to do. If someone doesn't like how things actually happen in the real world, they can save themselves the money and do it "the right way" in their own garage. Most people wouldn't even know where to begin let alone do it right. "My days as a service tech are over" If thats the case, better fire the whole line.😂😂😂😂 I have seen people do alot worse than mess up a transmission & still have job. Good service managers understand shit happens, no one perfect.

Thanks for the reply... I picked up a new transfer pump from Auto Zone about $10.00 plus tax. It had heavy clear tubing with a lock mechanism like the newer plumbing quick connects. I Looked around my garage and found an old sink with a small filtered water spout. It had the perfect angle and size for the fill. I modified the hose with a small - thicker piece of hose from a washer and used a couple tie wraps so it wouldn't slip out. I drilled a hole in the top of one of the quart caps using a 5/8" wood drill bit. From my experience when drilling out plastic, put your drill in reverse use a wood bit with the point in the center. I put a 3/8" grommet in the cap on the suction end of the clear tube in case the bottle tipped. I used one of the A.T.F. fluid quart cap to be used and cleaned everything well. Placed another grommet and tie wrap for length to the bottom of quart bottle. I reused this cap on all quarts. This tool will be used only for Transmission fluid in the future. No mess and worked like a charm. Wish I knew how to upload a photo but the B.M.W. ("Bring Me Work") is keeping me busy. Good luck to you and hope this may help you or someone in the future.

Your Lexus ATF fluid change led me here! I too love using Maxlife ATF on everything from Toyota/Lexus, Subaru, BMW ZF and now Maserati ZF transmissions. Have you read any of RAT540 engineering blog? He tested the wear protection limits of 298 engine oils by now and recently tested some gear oils and ATF. The Maxlife, Castrol Transmax and Ford Mercon LV, Mobil multi vehicle (blue bottle) SEIZED UP IMMEDIATELY. I’m shocked. However, Amsoil OE Multi vehicle, OE Fuel efficient, Signature Series Fuel Efficient tested really good. The kicker: Mobil1 Full Synthetic Multi Vehicle Formula (grey bottle/black label) edged out the Amsoil lineup! I have cases of that ready to go in… Thank you for your fluid pump DIY
@737mechanic Жыл бұрын
I had never heard of Rat540 but I did find that blog. I didn't find anywhere that explained how they tested the ATF fluids so it is hard for me to accept any of their test data. This is what I know about MAXLIFE. I have used it in many transmissions ever since it has been out and I have vehicles with over 300,000 miles on them using Maxlife. The reason I started using it in Toyota transmissions is because the ATRA "Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association" recommended it over WS fluid, they said in an article if you are going to use the WS fluid you should change it every 30,000 miles but if you want to go to 100,000 miles between fluid changes then use the MAXLIFE. If you are not familiar with ATRA they are an organization of professional automatic transmission rebuilders that figure out fixes for all transmissions that have problems due to poor manufacturing engineering. So to me the fact that not only do I have over 20 years of real-world experience with MAXLIFE but the largest authority on automatic transmissions recommends it.
@vqdriver Жыл бұрын
@@737mechanic yes I understand. I too have Maxlife in my 100 series that now has 286,000mi. Rat540 doesn’t divulge his test methods (strike against him!) but he’s written 60 intriguing car related articles. Like he def knows his stuff. He claims to be above the influence of any oil company. He torture tests his oil at operating temp which, according to him, the ASTM does not. And that’s his claim to his method as being advantageous. He’s written an article about big oil testing methods. What I also like is he’s a lifelong engine builder on top of being a mechanical engineer! ATRA sounds credible or they could be simply be endorsing Valvoline Maxlife and it happens to work well! I found the Maxlife because of Nathan’s BMW channel. MAXLIFE DOES WORK GREAT. No doubt! “Better” that I’m finding with Mobil1 FS ATF may not necessarily mean anything. What matters most is regular maintenance. Also my opinion. Would have been great if you had experience with the Mobil1 FS ATF multi vehicle formula. I shall report back! Maybe you’ll have another video to make either way lol

@@737mechanic I think what I like best is RAT540 does this on his own free time and is VERY SKEPTICAL about oil companies as we all should be! It opened the door for companies to make more profits. Even his #1 Quaker State FS 5W30 (not Ultimate Durability) has fallen about 12% but still out edges the rest… for now..

No doubt this is an great solutiion. If you are in a pinch, and do not have a pump sprayer available, one can use an air compressor with very LOW PRESSURE (like 5lbs) by drilling 2 holes into the top of a container. Drill one hole so you can fit your air nozzle over the top forming a seal. and drill a second hole in the cap for your feed tubing. Assemble an apply VERY LOW AIR PRESSURED. The air will force the liquid throught the tubing. This worked great when I changed my diff fluid.. Your set up is better you only need one hand to transfer the fluid.

Late to the party here, however: I'm certain you understand the old standard of 100K mi trans fluid change intervals of the distant past. Modern vehicles are using far more "variable" gear shifting to meet CAFE standards. Most manufacturers have anywhere between 35-45K mi Trans fluid intervals so that the "customer" has a much longer life of that component - which is more expensive than any other major component of a vehicle. Just stick to the manufacturers suggested intervals, they have the engineering backing for it.

Also, I use Wolfs Head all synthetic universal ATF fluid. Good for all manufactures known requirements. With killer price too. How about you make a video for oil change from the top of the engine??? Thanks, VF

I have that but how to clean it after the use. Next ATF change is after 30 K tell then is it ok to keep bottle like this or wash it with soap as I am afraid the ATF will destroy the valve ( on and off)

Can you use the same sprayer to pump red line 75/85 synthetic weight rear end differential fluid?

Thank you for this video! There are a few versions of this online but yours is the best. Also, I think you sent so many people to Walmart that their pricing algorithm jacked the price. I found one at Home Depot for $10 so that is still a great deal.

Nice video. A year later this pump cost $21! holy moly .. I have 120k miles gx470 and according to service history, this never been changed. Would you recommend flush or just drain and fill?
@737mechanic5 жыл бұрын
Y G Drain and fill is all I would do.

Does it have enough pressure to fill a transmission from below like for a Mercedes Benz?

Yes

Warning: If you are using something like this to fill your differential or transfer case with pure gear oil, just be aware that it could be contaminated with the silicone lube these cheap sprayers have. What this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2quq56vqNGViac In all honestly, I still think the best way is to use a long tube and a funnel, attached to some sort of stand, and just pour it in and let gravity do the rest, like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3urmJSooJl9hMk
