Fellow Malcolm / Vial Smasher player here. I made top four of my first tournament. Going to my second tournament the end of August. Hoping for the win. As far as the build, I have been off Ad Nauseam for awhile now because of the reason Dylan mentioned with Codie. I replaced it with Hoarding Broodlord which has been great in the deck. It is another tutor target for Magda and will usually win the game for me. The 8 mana is rough, but I also have a nice reanimation package for it. Works great as an Intuition target as well.

Tivit in my mind is still a top 10 deck. Has the best win con (thoracle) and infinite turns that allows you to usually determine who is 2nd-4th in a game. Card quality is pretty high in the deck so it's hard for it get flashy new toys. Mocking bird and trouble in pairs are the only new cards that stick out in my mind

Hey guys! I just got around to watching this episode, but I'm the Vial/Thras pilot out of Colorado! I appreciate the kind words about the list, it's been my baby for a long time. I think the deck is very good in a grindy meta game, and it has so much ability to pivot into different constructions to combat different meta games. My list isn't perfect yet, and I've since then cut the Valley Floodcaller. There's always room to improve. Thanks for the content y'all!

Dylan's attitude on playing against Nadu, or any other high powered deck, ought to be the attitude that all players have to all games. Interact, be a part of stuff, etc etc. Great attitudes like this are what make the game great.

No go on Eladamri for Sisay Dylan. You want to tutor with her. Also point of note, Eladamri is only on YOUR turn. Not at instant speed. Side note - checkout Honest Rutstein in Sisay. Nothing feels better than neoforming your dockside to rutstein, bring back dockside and cast for 1. Gain 2 pips for Sisay, reduce cost for all creature and get more treasures.

On Sowing Mycospawn. It's 4 mana, sure. But it's not a card you "tap out for" at 4 mana. Because of rog etc you are usually getting cradle untapped, and it taps for at least 3 right away, and often it's actually a ritual

Currently piloting Grist the hunger tide, though its sorcery speed wins other than necromancy it has been very fun playing her. And having people ask "does anyone here know golgari combo lines?" Its main advantage is the unfamiliar play patterns that I take for the win.

I’ve been saying for a long time now that Sylvan Scrying would be great for Kinnan (and now Thrass Roger). In Kinnan you can get; Cradle, treasure vault, minamu, or Homeward path (but more traditional cards can already do that) but you are also able to grab Boseju or ottawara and use their channel abilities. I guess sometimes you won’t want; a bounce spell, to remove a permanent, a way to use Chimera or get your Kinnan back, a way to win by washing your colorless mana, a way to break the one ring, or a huge mana boost from cradle?🤔🤔🤔🤔 I honestly doubt that. Thoughts?

These numbers bounce around and are so inconsistent and I would even say “consistently inconsistent”. I have a theory. There are sooo many decks to chose from and so few really good players that trying to separate the pilots from the decks and track the deck performance “in a vacuum” is just about impossible. “These decks are really good right now” is approximately the statement “the best players are playing these decks right now.” Two other points) 1) tracking by conversion rate puts way too much noise into the Signal to Noise ratio. A top 16 in a 35 player tourney gets as much weight as a top 16 at a 135 player tourney. It’s gonna take an enormous sample size for that stat to “converge”. (Meet it’s actual expected value) 2) the delta between a good player and a great player is a greater gulf than the delta between a good deck and a great deck. Here’s what I would do. Track the win to loss ratios of all the decks. Even win % gets noisy because of the draws and esp the ID’s. But the ratio between the games played to a win and played to a draw (while still noisy) would converge way faster than the conversion rate. Eventually you could maybe see what the tourney win % (w each deck taken as a % of the field) is. But that may not work because new tech, new commanders, and meta shifts will always scramble the signal before we can get a good look at it. I love that it’s like this. CEdh won’t be getting “solved” anytime soon. And that’s a good thing 👍

When talking about Thrasios Vial smash you brought out dockside Cthonian nightmare loops not working but, they don't for a different reason since you are only casting Cthonian Nightmare to reanimate and loop dockside + 1 other creature its not that dockside is a creature its that cthonian can only be activated at sorcery speed. It would work with Recurring Nightmare if that wasn't banned.

I know it's 4 mana but what do you think of lethal vapors
@al81882 ай бұрын
I wouldn't be sad to see Nadu go. With that said, I think a lot of the general sentiment around the card has definitely been poisoned by cross-pollination from modern, WotC's handling of the B&R, and Modern Horizons as a product line's obvious intentional power creep. Combine that with the RC's increasing visibility WRT confusion about their role and purpose, as well as banlist philosophy, and you've got a nasty spotlight on the deck. If you removed the overall stench the bird has on it from all those other factors people would likely be more ambivalent towards it. Manual storm is a rare treat we don't often get to indulge in, but that is already kind of touchy because of how it can monopolize table time, and all those other factors are certainly not helping its popularity, power level and play patterns aside.

It's simple. Dylan and Cam make a video, I will watch said video 😂
@timothykrzywonski2 ай бұрын
I don't think conversion rate is a good statistic. The difference in representation in top cut vs entry is good and similar, but not the same. If we reran pro tour nadu, 100% of people should be on it, but a couple might hard target it and sneak into top cut. Nadu can't have a good conversion rate if everyone is playing it, but it's definitely the best deck. EDIT: you're kind of bias towards less popular decks. Plus difference in percent population lets you index across each stage of tournaments. Like comparing wins from different decks.
@SamuelKyle-p3d2 ай бұрын
I'm seeing a conversion rate of 21.15% on Rog/Thras since June 1st, guess the pilots just needed one last week. Glad to see the deck have a good summer
@SamuelKyle-p3d2 ай бұрын
Also, keep an eye out for a Zur Winter. The deck feels purpose built to take down tournaments. It has achieved a critical mass of flash enablers in order to win at turns, at instant speed, on top of everyone else. They are in some of the best colors to ensure that the game either progresses to turns while also being able to threaten wins pretty reliably as early as turn 3. Zur even has that new Ranger Captain line you guys mentioned w/ Yuriko. There are next to zero entries on the site, but of the 11 entries since June 1st, the 2 that included Valley Floodcaller converted & 7 of the 9 decks w/o a critical mass of flash enablers didn't. There was someone at your event that ran it back with Zur and ranked 41st with it, but didn't run Floodcaller. Interestingly, they are the only western player to top 16 this summer w/o Valley Floodcaller & did it at the Bufftown Bullies event. (The other being a player from Shanghai and I don't know enough about their meta to be confidant in a comparison). I believe in Zurpremecy, do you?

3:02 yeah, the RC was never going to ban the bird this fast. It's just not a card that screams "this will be banned" based on it's card alone, so the context of it being played heavily, having negative play patterns in actual play etc. was the only thing that would get it banned, and that hasn't had enough time to be made known imo.
