When I first applied to Walmart I was working at the deli and bakery. It was a frustrating job with coworkers slacking off or quitting. We were always shorthanded since someone would call out. After a year I transferred to Vision center and it was the best decision I made working at Walmart. I make $19.50 a hour now as nonlicense optician and mainly work sitting down making sales. Walmart doesn't pressure you to make sales and you don't make commissions. So you can be honest and try to get the customers what they need. As long as you have knowledge/learn about different lenses, frames, repairs, contracts, and insurance. Mainly it alot of memorization, sale pitch, and reception work. It's pretty chill job when you're not busy and we mainly just chat and play on are phones.

As a personal shopper it is stressed at times when we’re expected to pick up everyone’s slack. Not enough on cap 2? Make OGP do it. Store needs zoning? Make OGP do it. Returns? OGP. Top stock? OGP. Maintenance? OGP. Literally everything they underschedule, we have to cover and it sucks. With OGP being the biggest part of the MyShare this year and future years it just doesn’t make sense to have OGP covering everything in the store. Plenty of times we have customers outside and they have to wait till someone can get back to the back room to get their order because we got pulled for something else. At least the customers are typically nicer than they are in store. Most are understanding of the wait time and are cool with substitutes if we were out of their item. They’re just happy they didn’t have to get out of their car and go inside. As much stress as it can be at times, it’s still better than being a cashier

Its funny how different certain Walmart's can operate, at my store, its the exact opposite. OGP is constantly being run by people in other departments. I've literally been the only electronics/Photo associate on the floor in my area and have had to tell management that I can't go do a pick run, then they'll ask why and I'm like "Then who else is gonna run electronics and photo? You? Here's my keys, oh and the printer just jammed again and 5 people wanna buy Bluetooth speakers and videogames, and some meth head wants to return a phone he tried to eat, have fun." Then they're like "oh, no, ok never mind."

I work in bakery lol what do you mean we don’t do much??? we do A LOT!! We have to make sure the pastries from the donut case are out and fresh before 7am and afterwards we have to bake French bread and pretty much everything else. Then once it’s all cooled down, we need to package it all and print out labels for all the packages. After all of that we have to prep everything we have to bake the next day and put it in the cooler and freezer and after that we need to organize the freezer. Whatever the truck brought for us, we need to unload It all from the truck and take it in the freezer and organize it in order. Not just that but we need to grab a pallet and unload the truck and grab all of our bakery items/supplies. Then we also need to stock the floor. Then we also need to constantly be helping customers with cake orders and cake decorating. Then end the day by cleaning all the dishes which is a lot and sometimes we need to clean the inside of the oven, cooler and freezer and mop the floors. It gets busier during the holidays because we are baking double of what we usually bake plus the seasonal baking as well and the cake orders increase.

Cap 2 stocking and unloading is definitely not for the faint of heart, unloading trucks is physically and mentally stressful, you have strict time constraints and a lot of work to do but as long as you can get along with your co workers and have fun while you work the time goes by pretty fast especially when you’re the one putting boxes on the line. I will say though that if no one is in a good mood then everything feels like it takes 20 times longer.

Speaking as a 18 yr old working in the apparel section, the position is ok. It really depends on the circumstances. When I get in I usually do returns (which I like because I get to move around a lot) but when your not doing returns your either zoning (which sucks because it’ll get ruined in an hour) and cleaning up. I like the people I work with, they help me get through the day because they can be entertaining to talk to. Management barely comes over to apparel so we have free range most of the time (not often told what what to do you just kinda find out and choose). It’s a decent position but I only work 4 hours there and I couldn’t imagine working 8. I worked 6 there before and I was dying of boredom. Apparel is easy, but if I were to choose a position that I could work for 8 hours then I’d say cap 2 or OGP (I like a fast paced work style)
@userbee7372 жыл бұрын
Same, it gets boring after a while but I do like that management isn’t down our backs. Although at my store we are always busy and have lots to do but my job in apparel is kinda limited to I sometimes can’t even help with what needs to be done (sometimes they want me standing at the fitting room all day when there’s literally no one). I work 8 hours and it’s not great but could be way worse.

Personal shopper here. I think I’m 3-4 weeks into working in the department and so far i like it but not really. The job itself is really easy you basically dispense, stage or pick while pick is probably the easiest of them all but also the most stressful if your not fast enough. It’s true that some time we would get picking sessions up to 90 items and would need to get it done under a certain amount of time. Usually the lower the time the better. The picking part is easy it’s just finding the item in back room that can be the hard part. If your TL requires it, they usually want you to find the item in back room and search recent history of the item to make sure if the item is out of stock or in the back room. Be in mind that all this takes time away from your picking so most time you have to pray that most items you have for picking are in stock or not you’ll have to substitute. Substituting isn’t bad but they prefer pickers to find the item if it’s anywhere in the store so that it looks good on metrics. The more substitutes there are the bad the metrics will look. Management is everything when you work in this position because if they care about metrics then it’ll be a lot stressful on you to make sure you get the items in time without substitutes if only needed. I already had a recent reminder from my TL that I was slow on my second week and was saying about considering a different position for me. He caught me looking for an item in the wrong area but I was eventually gonna find the item if he didn’t show up. I just forgot to look at the TC location. Truth be told I don’t really like that TL but the other TL guy I get along with. You can’t be friends with everyone in this job so realize that some TLs are better than others. Just hope that they don’t jeopardize your job

Great vid, but damn no cap 3/overnight? I guess here's my review: I work full-time 10pm - 7am (or 10:09pm - 6:51am if we're being honest) Easy, but also not so mindless that your mind numbs. Gets paid a bit better than the other departments too ($18.50) because not a lot of people can stick around on the overnight sleep schedule so it's understaffed. Once on the sleep schedule (not that hard to do, just drink tart cherry extract when you get home from work and you'll sleep the day away) it's honestly less of a grind than going to high school was (I'm recently graduated). Time goes by super quickly, and I get paid ~$125 post-taxes a night to be there. Definitely my pick for the best department. Oh, and no customers for 99% of the time. 40% of the time I'm on my own and stocking or zoning while grinding through podcast episodes, 35% of the time I'm working with people and and aisle or 3 or 4 away from them, 30% of the time I'm working in a group where we're sections away from each other (dairy usually), and 5% of the time moving cardboard or pallets.

People let their dogs piss and shit all over our floors and then walk away and don't tell anyone, then some other customer steps in it and smears it all over the floor! Ugh! To boot, we can't do anything about it! Hi, cake decorator here. It is a good job, and probably has one of the highest base pays without going to team lead or management, but it's not really accurate to say we don't do much. I still, have to work freight, organize freezers, do inventory, make sure I maintain the appropriate levels of cakes, icings, equipment, packaging, manage my time appropriately so customer orders get done on time and correctly. 99% of the time there is a problem with a cake order, it's bc some other store associate took an order down improperly, misquoted prices or serving sizes, wrote down ambiguous information, spelled a name wrong, didn't take down a phone number. etc etc. So then we have to guess, or call annoyed customers at home to get clarification, or fix mistakes. Trust me, when you need to get 50 cake orders done on time and with accuracy in a weekend, and one of them is a three tier wedding cake in which some random employee has promised a customer we can do things we can't do... It gets stressful. I'd dare say it's the hardest/time crunchiest position in the bakery, and prone to giving people carpal tunnel syndrome and plantar fasciitis. It can also be incredibly rewarding but it requires excellent customer service skills, techinal specialty, problem solving, and management skills.

Stocking associate for nightshift👋 I’m here cause stocking for night time specifically ain’t it, Idk how daytime stocking is but for me currently at night, we don’t get breaks, my manager belittles me 2b faster despite my best efforts, & we’re short staffed which often means more workload w/ same finish expectation; & while there’s no customers really & I do get a slightly higher pay, I personally at our store wouldn’t consider it worth it tbh. For those considering night👍 but that’s just my experience

lemme tell u abt apparel at my store. u right abt the old ladies, all my coworkers are old wmn. them ladies do NOT do SHT. they rude & nasty & stand around all day gossiping. i agree, apparel is a fairly easy department if everyone does their job, but at my store they don’t. they is usually 4 ppl scheduled on night shift. i do all the returns & zone by myself everynight. im not a confrontational person but i will speak up. anytime anyone ask me to do something for them I always say no bc they’re lazy & steady try & take advantage of me. but they just don’t get any consequences for taking extra breaks, extending their breaks, standing around etc. my coach/teamleads don’t gaf abt what they do but will get on to me if I’m not “doing enough” basically picking, bc im the youngest one in my department (18). also the only person of color in my department so it sucks for me. i would just yk match the energy but I have a good work ethic & cannot just stand around for my whole shift, it’s literally crazy to me that they can do tht. idk what department to change to, hell I might just transfer stores tbh

No offense I know you said you didn’t work in cap 2, but it’s not all stocking, for the most part we actually do trucks, unloading for more that half our shift. It is 2-11 2-3 is mostly viz picking and capping, which it grabbing merchandise that can go on the shelves from the back to be stocking by overnight 3-6 is generally spent unloading the GM truck 6-7 is lunch 7-9 is spent between unloading the grocery and frozen and dairy truck 9-11 is spent bringing everything we unloaded to the sales floor for overnight to stock

I was put with coworkers who could not perform the job like lift pallets heavy bags of mulch, old women and a small indian woman, Plus a team lead who says she is pregnat, The team lead was bossy and made me do all the hard lifting, screw that so I dipped on lunch. It would not be that bad of a job if I had hard workers who shared the load equally. It feel likes a warehouse too with the concrete floors, which also takes a toll on your body. greeter may be the best job.

I can definitely confirm that Food/Fresh is one of the worst departments to work in. At least where I work. The stocking part of it is fun and all, but the negatives definitely outweigh the positives. 1. They are treated like absolute shit by management 2. They are severely underpaid (like literally the most underpaid team in the store that doesn't say "cashier") 3. On top of being severely underpaid, management piles tasks from other departments on top of them. Like claims, go backs, Cap team tasks, cashier, etc. And if they don't get it done, they get coached. 4. Literally everything gets blamed on them. 5. They cut your hours like crazy. So bad that I had to look for another job. 6. Management has unreal expectations for everything. Like they expect 4 pallets full of dairy to be fully stocked by like 2 people (no overstock) in half a shift. 7. There is a LOT of favoritism. Management will pick a select few workers to pin the blame on when things are going south, while the others get away with murder. They never hold who committed the mistake accountable for it. They always just shout at and threaten whoever is there. 8. Management NEVER acknowledges you when you do a great job. They always try to find something to put you down on. It got to the point where they started complaining about how certain parts of my damn clothes looked.. Pretty much all of my team leads were wrongfully terminated, filed lawsuits against the company and won. It's seriously not worth it. I'm in Cap 2 now. Cap 2 is okay. Its a lot of physical work and capping. And that's pretty much it. They sometimes expect us to move at breakneck speeds.. buy it's realistic and understandable.. it can also get a bit boring and repetitive at times, and being couped up in the hot ass backroom for 80% of the day can take a toll on your mental sometimes. But it's cool. Claims department is real chill too. But the same thing goes about being couped up in the backroom all day.. and I recommend a strong stomach for that department

Stocking 2 (CAP 2) Team Lead here. There is no contest, Stocking 2 (if the store still has them unloading all trucks AND running all freight) is the hardest job. It’s the ONLY area in the store with concrete times to meet, it’s paid the same as OGP when their associates do next to nothing after 6pm, and it’s physically the hardest job in the store. I’ve been with Walmart for 6 years, worked every department besides produce, bakery, and deli. Any questions, I’d be happy to answer.

Walmart in other countries might be different. Where I work cashiers are expected to push the Walmart MasterCard. It's stressful because you might have a whole lineup of customers waiting while processing an application. The kickback for the associate is peanuts compared to the money the store makes for signing people up. Cashiers will be reprimanded if rhey don't ask evey customer if they want to sign up. Associates dont always have the information, equipment or support needed to do their jobs which makes it more stressful and difficult. When you ask the customer service manager, CSM, for the details about the current card promotion and they won't provide them and you don't have information to give to the customers it's maddening. Some CSMs can give you a lot of attitude and be snarky when all you're trying to do is practice the Customer First policy. Stores here have outside companies doing some departments, like cleaning, maintenance and mobile phone sales. The people emplyed there don't eat lunch with everyone else for some reason. I don't think they get the same discount as regular associates either. Job openings for positions that don't require as much physical labour don't seem to come available as often.

Dang phone! Everybody says man that looks like fun! Sometimes it’s fun. Special orders are the worst. Everybody wants thier cake at this time or that time or maybe at the same time lol. You walk in the door and punch in at 8 am, some idiots took a bunch of orders due by 8:30! Idiots! Takes that long just to thaw the cakes so how do I get them done in time? Wow you just reminded me about all that stuff as I’m jobless and thinking about going back to decorating. Its not easy at all. Yup you can get paid more especially if you’re seasoned. Not everybody is an artist 👩🎨. I’m self taught. Handful of tips (decorating tips/tubes and a couple bags) a Wilton book and my kitchen counter. 8 years decorating out of the house. 10 years in a grocery store bakery. 16 years working for a food broker teaching it to. That turned into a free labor job lol. To heck with teaching the decorator new things, and the store manager just wants free labor.

Over at Harris Teeter we have a separate receiving department, but most department managers pop in to help unload. Dairy and Frozen over here is very flexible, you can kinda take a break whenever you need it and as long as you get your shit done you're fine, also the amount you get done can be pretty flexible and you'll generally have a +1 to help. Pretty good opportunity if you live in the Carolinas and the pay is decent for where I live.

I pushed carts in high school through college for 6 years and I loved it lol get to be outside, can chill somewhat, good exercise, little to no supervision, low customer interaction (especially if your off radio), learned/developed some cart pushing tricks and your boys got your back. Yeah, apparel was bad and so was doing maintenance as far as cleaning. Some of the associates were down right lazy they did not want to clean a simple spill. Everything was call maintenance. Call maintenance. Call maintenance. 1 time I was off the clock on lunch and I was in the break room having my lunch and I didn't have a car so I couldn't go outside for my lunch. I was all alone. An employee tried to disturb me on lunch. That there was a spill. I told them that I was on lunch and they had to wait until I was done with my hour. Then they were like, but am I supposed to do? I was like you have to have somebody watch the spill and the other person clean it. I am off the clock on my lunch. Some associates acted like maintenance was their maid and that everybody can go on lunch and their breaks except maintenance. Not to mention that managers would get on especially the overnight ones on why plastics warrant and grocery to GM side done And taken to grocery side bagged and why trash wasn't taken out but yet I need a manager to unlock the compactor since I don't have to key. Management does. You have even associates that have been there for years even ask me if maintenance had the key and I asked them how long have they been working there and they told me the years and I was like all those years you've been working here and you still haven't caught up that maintenance doesn't have the keys to the contractor. I got fired for gross misconduct for finding $100 before my shift and I didn't turn it in. Apparently it was a customer at grocery side that I found. It was there cash-back that I should have not touched and should have turned it in. A few days ago, the manager that terminated me was looking at me talking to an employee. I was in there shopping. I was terminated on May 12. As far as their concerned, that employee could have been helping me. I am a customer now. I gave them the money when I was terminated and I was told to give back my vest, my discount card, my work badge and the work phone and that I was terminated. I wasn't giving anything to sign, not that I would have signed in anyway. I won unemployment. Looking back, and even a former security guard was telling me that they could tell how miserable I was working for Walmart and that they did me a favor and things happen for a reason. I was only unemployed 18 days before I found a part time job on unemployment until I find full time work. Before Walmart, I honestly thought Home depot was the worst job I ever had , but home depot is now relegated to second place. Walmart honestly now is the worst job I ever had. If that same manager that terminated me looks at me with a nasty look again and as well as my former people lead cause even they did it as well, I will walk away and call home office a few times. I don't condone what I did and I wasn't arrested, but I am a customer now. Since I wasn't arrested or told by court that I couldn't shop there and that I would be trepassing, I can shop there. They promoted me to customer. I guess things happen for a reason. Goodbye Walmart. They told me I was ineligible to be rehired. I'm a lot happy now being gone. Good riddance. I don't condone what I did, but I guarantee you if an actual customer also did it instead, they would have done nothing. Management acts like they wouldn't have done it but how about all the merchandise theft that some managers do as well as wage that to try not to pay you overtime. No one will give a crap about you unless their last name is Walton or married into that family or born into that family.
