Instantly knew he subject from the thumbnail. RotMG is the worst thing that happened to me, and I legitimately had such an addiction problem I nearly failed out of college. Loot is awful, and it's just not getting what the community really needs. I don't want to relive my anguish from doing so many events to get nothing (one time ran over 100 dungeons during a loot event and got no white bags), so I won't watch this video, but I will say that the operators of this game won't change, it's just horrible. It's so fun until you look to get loot, then it's just the worst.

Like yeah it's fun learning how to play it and do high level content and stuff, but eventually there's little reward other than gaming the garbage markets and stuff. Going after rare endgame equipment is such a risk too, and losing a character right after getting one of those loots is devastating.

For context, the IP issue is by design to prevent an exploit called multiboxing. It's a really old technique where a player would control 10-20 characters at once, be unstoppable, and prevent everyone else from getting any loot

@@greyw0lv Nah it's actually to prevent muling, using a mule means that you have separate accounts to store loot on because you only start with 2 character slots and 2 vault chests so a total of 32 item slots (after getting enough fame to buy the 1x chest and 1x character otherwise 16) if you mule you get extra slots for free, but by them putting a strict ip ban on it you can't get extra free slots and have to pay them money for more. In a game where 300 slots isn't enough it's very predatory and that's without mentioning stat pot storage

I remember this game being so fun and frustrating , the first time I got to oryx castle and saw the amount of people fighting oryx was amazing, a bunch of pixels and graves everywhere 😂. I used to play this a lot on browser , the exp train was amazing, we went following the dirt( or stone?) path that was all around the map and killed all that crossed our path to get to level 20 , it was so fun :( goddam nostalgia hits hard AF

as a rotmg player of several years and several 1000s of hours spent, this video was amazing, it covered all the great aspects and (most) of the bad aspects, but keeping the narrative positive throughout the video. the only thing you forgot in my opinion, is the annoying discord meta that comes with endgame dungeons due to their monotony and/or difficulty (probably since you haven't been doing too many), but besides that, I don't see how this video could have been better. thanks for shedding light on out community :)

Thank god for the health scaling rework it really shifted away from the discord meta. It’s still an issue and I hate how discords will be so particular if you want to join them, but that is to health scaling if get a couple decent players together any dungeon is doable. My favorite times where when me and my friends would pop endgame dungeons on the left bridge on nexus and help newer players that still have to rely on discords get a better grasp of the dungeon. I am only 14 but I have been playing this game since I was 4. This game has been a massive part of my life and no matter what I have been through Realm has always been there for me. I have taken a few long breaks from the game but it always somehow draws me back in after a few months to a year. The rush of getting a white bag is insane, the dopamine a long time player of this game receives from seeing those few pixels is crazy. There is no other game that can cause me to get that excited, I think that’s why people get drawn in to the game after not playing for years even. This game is insane and there is no game like it out at the moment, and I am so glad that the community is growing.

As a tester for the game, I've had the misfortune of seeing various designers let go that would have brought some seriously needed changes to the game's more core mechanics. As an ex-tester once described it, Realm tries to be both a roguelike and a grindy MMORPG, which do not work together on a fundamental level - and it's understandable this wasn't immediately caught. It _was_ made for a game jam, after all. But alas, we now answer to management who sees players as customers, and running constant events = constant revenue...

RotMG really boils down to your play style making it bearable or not for grinding, as well as DECA needing to address the problems which the community have already found for them. It’s not that pay to win besides getting a few character slots and vault space, but is absolutely discord-reliant for playing with others

Haven't watched the full video yet but after spending 4000 hours and about 1500 euro (just keys vault space and character slots) on this game I can safely say it's not worth it and if I could I'd have quit a long time ago but I can't quit and even if I don't wanna play I still find myself dreading the thought of missing a single log in reward or not completing a event Edit: finished the video and I think it's great although one small thing is you don't have to max all pet stats before fusion just the first Stat on both pets for a max fusion it is however recommended that you do max everything you can because it will save you some fame

Honestly I figured the items on the ground were there for decoration at this point because I didn’t believe there were people reckless enough to spend actual money on easy to get gear you can die with. I like it as opposed to a shop menu, but the purchases themselves are stupid. I like the open layout, but haven’t once felt the need to spend money on gear or skins

As an OG of the game, this video hits all the right points of how I feel a lot of the time and it’s kinda why I haven’t played at all in the past year. I’ve done pretty much everything there is to do and and whenever they release new stuff I was mostly over it in a week or two. Right now I’m just waiting for enough changes to happen so that when I come back it will feel like a whole new experience. A couple things that I don’t fully agree on is that I truly believe Deca cares and is at the very least making an effort to improve the game in many ways, while they haven’t been perfect and have made so big mistakes in my opinion they often don’t get the credit they deserve. I know it’s a low bar to be doing more than Kabam did but during their era they literally forgot to end the winter oryx castle event for like 2 years and there wasn’t even any chests or extra loot to be had from it, I had almost forgotten what it was like to not have ice everywhere. The other part I don’t fully agree with is the seasonal characters. It’s definitely a good thing and something I’m looking forward to doing when I come back. For a lot of end game players we frequently make PPEs (pro player experience) which are characters with self imposed downsides that are literally the same as the seasonal character’s downside. I’d prefer if it would stay a seasonal character forever and just not be able to trade with seasonal characters from later seasons, but overall PPEs are one of my favorite ways of playing the game that kept the content alive for me for so much longer. Great video though it was very enjoyable

I think one of my main problems with the game at the moment is actually do to the games reliance on discords to run end game content, the monetization of dungeons to having incredibly exclusive runs gatekeeping content from new players and existing players by having requirements that can be challenging or time consuming. being forced to sit in a discord and listen to a 14 year old child tell me how to play the game lest i be banned from the discord and restricted from being able to do end game dungeons.

Personally, I found the grind from 0 to 6/8 always the most fun. Why? Because you're constantly getting stronger, getting better gear, good loot, etc. When you reach max stats and have t11 gear or so, the only chances to get better gear are from super rare drops that I just don't like to grind. Not to mention, I have barely any sense of community at all. Everyone is just doing discord raids or chest events and they get 10 potions and much better loot than I do organically farming in the godlands, doing dungeons and killing event gods. And I've done that grind so many times I don't get any enjoyment out of it anymore. Even IF I get someone to accompany me they have outrageously overpowered pets and maxed characters so they just steamroll the entire thing. So I don't play the game at all. For that and so many other reasons (shitty microtransactions, DECA, cheaters, etc).

Hey there decade old player here, the only real way to know if the game is for you is to download it (free) & try it for yourself. But be warned, the game is not noob-friendly, after the criminally vague tutorial, they throw you into the deep end & expect you to stay. If you do not know anyone irl, or do not befriend veterans, you will die. many many times over. But as anybody who pours thousands of hours into a game they love can say: once you get good at the game, secure legendary loot to make you feel like a raid boss, & understand/accept the game's simplistic mechanics...only then does it truly become addictive & imo one of the best MMO's of our time.

I've played RotMG like 8 years ago when I was a student. It was a pain when you don't invest a little bit real money in because the default storage(Vault) size to obviously too tiny. Recently I backed to this game, bought some storage and character slots during Black Friday sales. This game instantly became enjoyable. In many RPG games with hardcore features like PoE or Diablo, they are very exciting for sure but it is a huge pain when you die. So many hardcore RPG games force you to redo the whole champion story again and that is very boring. While RotMG don' have such problem, the begin of the game is the end game, do anything you want or you like. Also it is a huge advantage and boost when you got enough storage. You can make a ~30~60% strength of your previous dead character and restart. The early game pain is avoided with your preparation. Also I feel farming dungeons is not a tiring thing to do here compare with other RPGs. Since this is a hardcore game, every step may be your last step if you don't do it carefully. I can't find another MMORPG that makes me exciting everyday. So many of them makes me tiring when you starting pursuing max rolled characters because you know you'll eventually get it when you spent enough of time. But in RotMG, you got both GREAT and HORRIBLE surprise during this journey. P.S. Compare with mobile games nowadays, buying storage and character slots are extremely cheap enough...

Last time I played I built a rougue with a planes walker clock and snake ring. This let me teleport, go invisible, and get a speed boost. I would speed run dungeons and then have my 2 friends tp to me and help nuke the boss for fas potions. Then one of my friends had 5 deaths in a few days and lost all of his gear and pot storage. Will play again... some day.

(Did not watch video) I played this game on and off since like 2012 and i just recently full quit around October last year. This game is horrible and always will be. I would say offhand that about 50 percent of the player base are cheaters and not to mention 0 anti cheat besides one group of ppl in a discord that make it their whole incentive to catch cheaters playing the game rather than actually playing the game itself. Ever since they added exalts to the game they just spam events to hype people to want exalt in their characters, which gets more players to buy more keys, which creates whales. Not to mention exalting a character is running 75 of each exalt dungeon which isn't really an achievement that shows any skill, but rather a braindead grind to attempt to grab at players pockets when they drop the same lazy reskin run of the mill events for holidays and etc every year. If the key whale players/raiding discords didn't exist this game would've died long ago but unfortunately I have dumped 5k hours minimum into this garbage. It was fun when exalting at first but then slowly I realized it was the same old boring shit after a while, and with the addition of blueprints for every white bag in the game making loot not feel as special and discords spam running exalt dungeons for free easy white bag forge it made it very easy to achieve what most "endgame players" would perceive as a "stacked account". I put these both in quotes because 99.9 percent of the players in the game are mechanically dogshit but have stacked accounts due to how braindead and easy it is to sit in discords, farm exalts, get easy exalt dungeon white bags with little to no effort and (if you've played the game enough and understand the dungeons) little to no risk of dying. The sad thing is there is so much they can do with this game i initially loved playing but one of the core mechanics of the game (permadeath) causes it not to be able to make dungeons/content that is super challenging and actually hard to complete/needing actual team work and coordination with dungeon mechanics and etc that are in other MMOs

Changing the camera makes it so easy if you have the long scope camera to see ahead of you. You get so much more sight forward and can just adjust the cam to ashtrays keep it facing frontward

I spent a good 1300 h in this game. I come back to this game 2 times a year and play all the time for 1-3 months. Micro transactions are in this game but not required Items you can get them just as well just not using much effort and skins are often given away in quests, free campaigns, in battle pass or gained in dungeon and items in shops for real currency are not the best. Micro transactions aren't a problem in this game when you don't use them, although I've spent about $100 on this game myself

As someone who has played RotMG for so long I really have only one issue with Deca and that is that a few of the classes seem almost pointless late game, its the one thing that I really think they should adjust to be more viable. The Knight and Archer come to mind

seasonal characters are aimed at the hardcore playerbase (which in realm these days are the majority of remaining players). As most dedicated players like me already have all chars maxed out and vault filled with endgame items. Starting new is really fun once in a while

Been playing ROTMG for since 2012. So much has changed and so have the owners LOL. Bug fixes here and their 5 minute loading screens turned to under 30 seconds. What a ride

I'm 3,600 hours of gameplay in, and the only thing I think you missed is the monetization of keys for dungeons. Much more predatory than selling low tier gear in my opinion.

seasonal characters are almost definitely deca's attempt at making an official "ppe mode" that people have been asking for for a while, albeit with a very mid execution and one or two vaults being completely erased from the game a ppe is a self imposed challenge where you make a new character, with the only things you're allowed to take from your account being your pet (hence being called pet player experience) basically has existed for most of the game's lifetime and will probably never go away since endgame people get bored of playing rotmg like a full time job grinding shatters and oryx sanctuary 30 times a day

Well, I am grateful for some content about this game, because sometimes I think that the only persons who play this game AND knows about existence of KZbin is me and my bois. But well, I don't really get the coping about micro transaction and other stuff. Recently I showed this game to my fellow gamer friend, and now he's playing for about a month. He started as a total noob and newbie to bullethells, and now he's one of those 1000 guys who will gain the title for completing the steamworks. He just wasn't playing for the loot itself, he started garbage characters for learning the game itself and patterns, and it looks for me like the only way to play this, or you will be tilted instantly. Also he bought only few micro transactions for increasing his vault, and he got the skin he wanted for Kensey. And what's the matter? He gets his fun for free and pays to what he wants without waiting, and it's how every such game work nowadays. There are also many events, what bring something new to the game and additional rewards are constant. For me - one of the best games in category "easy to learn - hard to master". Especially nowadays, when the most popular games are like genshin, where you sell your real life wife to get the chance of having these virtual chicks.

there used to be a modded private server a few years ago called RoTF, it felt like a much better version of this game, it was so great that the creators of RotMG closed it.

Used to play the shit out of this game as a kid when it was new. So many good memories, many tears shed over losing my favourite characters. Came back to it recently for nostalgia and after a couple weeks of playing, I have the account I dreamt of having as a kid. A bunch of maxed characters, some of the best items in the game, a vault full of good gear. This game is what you make of it. A lot of people complain about the monetization ruining it, but that’s not true. The game is still very playable and fun without spending money. And if you don’t take it so damn seriously as if a part of yourself dies when one of your characters dies, you’ll find a pretty casual and relaxing experience. Overall I like this game a lot, holds a special place in my heart, and I’ll keep coming back to it.

Sorry if somebody already pointed this out, but when you questioned the seasonal characters I think you've just misunderstood. The seasonal characters are mainly for the advanced players who have everything in the game already. Instead of having to restrict yourself to make the game interesting (PPE's, NPE's etc) DECA implemented a way to make the game challenging for the advanced players by restricting the rules. I understand that it makes no sense for players who are just starting or have been playing for only a while, it's mainly a feature for the top of the elite players who have achieved everything the game has to offer, even though I think it still can be appreciated by starters and less advanced players.

9:00 small mistake, UT's are based on the assumption of changing the way the class plays. IE Ogmur armor break instead of stun Jugg instead of Damage does Defending. Doom bow was 1 strong instead of 3 weak attacks. 34:20 people were crying for a "PPE" mode which eventually became seasons for like 8 years straight. It was a playerwhish and somehow resurrected the game big time

Vet here, currently taking an extended break from the game for a multitude of reasons, I'd just like to state this; RotMG is a fantastic game... mechanically. A LOT of the games ideas are very intriguing and unique, but more often than not, fall short. The current owners are comprised of some people who care, but a vast majority show they really don't know about the game, or even seem to care about the playerbase as a whole. Having put thousands of hours into the game, playing since the paladin used a tome just like the priest, it's safe to say I have some attachment to the game. I personally am still salty towards DECA for various reasons. One being they did not give me the same support treatment they gave others (Being vague saying I *could* give something away, only to email a month later and say I could no longer perform said giveaway) or refusing to give me an 8 year inactive name, but having given multiple other players names that were inactive for only about two. A cherry on top was that their former community manager *accidentally* accepted me into closed testing, when he didn't mean to. STILL confused as to how you mess up like that. There are a few more things they've done, but I think you get the idea. This isn't even going near the MULTITUDE of egregious and predatory realm gold purchases. All in all, I still thing RotMG is a fantastic game, and I truly do hope it succeeds and continues to be updated. I just don't see myself returning anytime soon.

As for what they did to Wangle, she agreed to the original terms and brought it all upon herself and blew it out of proportions. Were the original agreements shady and predatory? Yes. Was DECA 100% at fault? No.

I truly believe the game is at its absolute peak, just not player count wise. I've put in the better half of 10k hours, and I'm still grinding (I don't know exact hour count because I'm not on steam). I don't mind the monitization, especially not the things that are pay to win. It's just like clash of clans; yea you can do it, but it's so horrendously expensive, it isn't actually an option. I've put some money into the game, but I'm absolutely at a position where there's no reason to spend anything. The gear I can buy is so mediocre it's a joke, and I have plenty of backpacks through years of playing. Exaltations gave life to the endgame experience, but the community (guilds and discords) is what keeps the majority of the playerbase going.

I have about 6000 hours into this game, i've been playing since 2012. This game isn't bad, the Discord meta killed it, that's all. The only way to fix it is to cap the player count inside a dungeon to something about 20 or less, or else the Discord meta will prevail. Plus the gacha shit has to disappear forever and items should not be purchasable from the shop by gold. Buff rare drops. That's it.
