I feel like Miniac used to very deliberately ape Alton Brown's style. Pulling out illustrative charts and giving a basic overview of the physical processes in things like airbrushing. I kind of miss that, but I guess there's only so much you can go over in that style.

I have spent a lot of time and money collecting various acrylics, oils, acrylic and alcohol inks, powder pigments, pastels and acrylic paint pens whilst preparing to setup my own hobby channel. But the thing I have invested the most in is creating my own line of paints, contrast paints, washes (oil and acrylic) and effects paints. My channel will be focused on budget DIY solutions for the hobby sphere. Creating my own paints allows me to perfect and tailor my paints to my liking.

I have the full range but have barely touched them yet. The first try was a bust so went back to ProAcryl for now. I need to sit down and work with them and learn to use them. I cannot second this enough. Scalecolor's Artist Smooth range are the only paints I own (including Warcolours, Citadel, Golden, AK, Vallejo, and Daler Rowney) that transfer/blend so smoothly right out of the tube that it's almost like I can feel it *through* the brush (in a good way!) They're like painting with butter (again, in a good way!) Their only downside is that you can't-or at least shouldn't attempt to-airbrush them.

I absolutely love the AK 3rd gen, Ive been transitioning to them from Vallejo Model Color, only downside is that the dropper part of the bottles almost always cracks and makes a mess. Some vibrant colors for the new Vallejo Game Color are pretty cool, and the Xpress line although small in range, is great and dries very mat. Vallejo also has a less known range, Mecha Colors, intended for airbrush, but the steel metallics work wonder by brush, their primmers are nice too, a bit satin. You have some hidden gems too in the Vallejo Airbrush paints, such as a Black Metallic.
@nameisbad

AK 3rd gem, Kimera and scale 75 are all people need. I legit vouch by that. AK 3rd gen is like other stuff but ten times better. kimera is just very solid for what it does and scale 75 is different yet excellent when mastered, beyond anything imo. (scalecolor i'm talking about mainly).

You sir, are not alone. I have at least 6 different paint ranges ( a few here , a whole range there etc.), and a large-ish double door closet filled with models( mostly Tank models as that was the last obsession). I love using ScaleColor Artist paints. They have amazing matte finish, lovely colours, and they mix nicely. And the biggest advantage for me is that I don't have to shake them. I injured my hand a few years ago and if I overwork it, it hurts and I can't paint. Not having to shake bottles (and things like vibrating shakers are not any better for me) extends the time I can paint by a lot. So I almost exclusively paint with the ScaleColor Artist paints and don't mind having to thin them down. It helped me learn what consistencies I like for painting.

I feel like I would get decision fatigue when trying to paint with this many paints. Which is why I've given away 90% of my paints. I kept my inks and artist paints for airbrushing, and a set of craft paints for dry brushing or terrain making. All of my other paints are artist oil paints. Oil paints have made me enjoy painting because acrylic paints were not super fun (if you aren't having fun painting, try oils. they are so much fun to paint with).

Thanks for the great videos and sharing your love and knowledge of painting and paints. I have both Two Thin Coats sets, a bunch of Army Painter, Vallejo, Pro Acryl (including yours and Vince's sets), a few reaper paints, war colours, huge miniatures, GSW and AK interactive. My total is no where near yours, but I have a fairly eclectic collection. My favorites right now are Two Thin Coats and Pro Acryl. Honestly have not tried the War Colours or AK interactive yet, bought them for a specific project that has been printed and primed, but I have not started painting yet. I gave all my Citadel to my wife for her to use because I cannot stand the paint pots and don't want the hassle of transferring them.

I aspire to your paint collection and I say that unironically. I love getting more paints, I love trying new brands, seeing how they work, what I like and don't like. I don't mind paying the cash for it, cause I've probably spent far more on ordered food that arrived cold or bland, or went to the cinema to see movies I didn't like. So yeah I'll drop a few quid on a bottle of paint to try it out! Right now I use a spectrum of acrylics, enamels, and oils. Inks, and fluorescents. Such a broad selection from different brands, to produce what I like to see on my minis.

The biggest upside to tube paints is that you don't get air into your paint when used. Bottle paint will dry in the pot faster and faster the less paint remains. If i had the option all my paints would come in tubes since most paints needs to be thinned anyways.

Fellow paint hoarder here. I find myself migrating towards the Scale 75 Artist colours more and more. Yes, they have to be thinned down, but BUT!. If you are like me and only have about 30min per day for painting, they hold up SUPER well on the wet palette. I load my palette for the week on Monday, and by Sunday, they are just the right consistency for those final glazes. No other brand comes close in this regard. It also helps that they mix well due to the limited pigments.

I do tend to get a lot of Life Colour mimetic, Vallejo MC, Ammo Mig, Reaper and AK paints since their range of colours are very suited for painting models based on real world stuff like a building's stone walls, brick walls and roof tiles etc. Surprisingly the only colours I use from Pro Acryl are a couple of their greys and browns. No, you are not alone I have been painting since the 1980's, but I use to paint with flat enamel paint by Testers. I did this because the paints would not dry out when you had to store them for any amount of time. Keep painting I am here to support you and you paints of choice.

This makes me feel better about having all the Scale75, all the Pro Acryl and most of the army painter and Vallejo ranges.

I watched this just before going to Michigan Toy Soldier, and still ended up buying more paints than I planned on.

I haven't found a color like your Pro acryl Dark Plum in YEARS. So glad I have that color in my repertoire again.

Hi I'm Vin and also a paint hoarder. I have hundreds, and hundreds of paints. And funnily enough our opinions are very similar, but I personally adore the Scale 75 range, and the speed paint 2.0 range. But my personal favorites are Ak 3.0 and Proacryl.

Awesome. You're not alone, I think everyone in the hobby has more than they need and regularly use. I have recently purchased the entire Two Thin Coats range, cos they're awesome. I have the basic Kimera set. A large box of vallejo air. and a shed load of citadel. So maybe 300 paints? I'll count them one day when I'm bored and procrastinating.

I just moved from Citadel paints to Vallejo model colour and am blown away by the quality jump. Turns out I'm a few years behind. Been eyeing the Pro acryl starter box

I also own a lot of paints from different ranges. One thing I really enjoy, is to paint Warhammer Underworld Bands with certain Ranges.

Man can i relate. I paint mini's, busts, scale models of all kinds (air, armour, scifi, auto etc) so have soooo many paints etc. Entire Minitaire, AK Real Color, Vallejo Model Air and large amounts of Tamiya Acrylic, Tamiya LP, P3, Citadel Contrast, Ammo Acrylics (man they are rubbish), AK Acrylics and so much more. I have just moved to a nice drawer based storage system to free up bench space and it means i have 90% of my psints and most used supplies within reach. So many worse things to spend ya $$ on.

I like that of all the paints you have, the two sets that I actually own are the ones that you're taking off your racks to make space.

Wait are you in Michigan, that is where I am at. I am starting to paint this weekend for the first time. Buying an air brush and letting it rip. Wish me luck!

Nice, I use a mix of Vallejo model color, Pro-Acryl, Citadel contrast, Valleoj metal color, Daller-Rowley inks, and a little Citadel.

the golden so flat yellows are seriously the best yellow paints ever they can get full coverage over white in one thin coat and over black it only takes 2-4 coats. for a vibrant strong yellow. they're insanely good for being yellow

I only have one paint set and honestly it gets tiring mixing colors sometimes, but I really like not having to go through a million different bottles to find what I want. It's also nice to know exactly how a paint is going to behave when I use it

I enjoy collecting paint as well. Probably what kicked off my desire for more paints was finding a great deal of the entire Reaper Core Colors range about four years ago. Since then added the following ranges: Reaper Bones, AK Gen 3, Scale Artists and Instant Colors and new Vallejo Game Color and Express paints. Have many from other ranges like Citadel, ProAcryl and SoFlat and about 100 oils.
