I know people still debate about Ariana's belting technique, but I think she must be doing something right as her overall technique is constantly improving, she's extremely consistent, and she's never lost her voice, even when sick. She might not be the most technically proficient singer ever, but she doesn't need to be as she found something that works for her. I guess she could be more creative with runs, but I respect that she switches it up every show she performs.

Miley had a vocal surgery in late 2019, she's slowly recovering and getting her range back, she actually sounds quite healthy most of the time, but she's pushing more in her belts. She really has this edgy rock style of singing, so she's often putting a lot distortion in her belts and also pushing, but her technique is also getting better and better, she can support up to C5 or C#5 and in 2021 she had really great moments, she even sang upper belt (F5) first time since like 2017 i think. Miley also uses a lot of growls and distortion with correct technique, also she has a "natural" rasp after her vocal surgery and she's embracing that with the distortion, wich sounds really cool. It is true that Ariana's belting technique isn't the best but it's still admirable in comparison to her peers; Ariana usually mixes (occasionally, she belts but usually only up to G5/G#5) in her upper middle register because it helps her to reach the notes more easily due to lightening of the voice (her voice is also naturally quite light so that's another plus for her 😊). And Ariana isn't always repetitive with her agility (she usually just does it because she does the same run in studio). I do agree that she overdoes it sometimes (her vocal agility is actually sort of influenced by Beyoncé so we all get that she would overdo it). But she still has a great musical ear and AMAZING musicality so I wouldn't think it's much of a problem. John Legend is one of my favourite male singers. He has a lot of soul and gospel influences so that would explain his belty, stylistic approach to singing. I agree with what you said about Kelly. She is as good a belter as Celine Dion (in fact, she's slightly better). She's actually almost on the same level as Whitney (which is what makes her so great). The woman has been belting G5s and G#5s all over the place even in her late 30s, which is truly an impressive feat. Adele has improved A LOT in terms of belting when she was on her break/hiatus/whatever it was that she was doing. With that being said, she still consistently strains starting from C5 but she sings in a far healthier manner than she used to. Christina's technique has actually gotten a bit better than it used to be. She belts more freely and with much better support/grounding and resonance than she used to. Her falsetto is OUTSTANDING, as always, and her low notes are pretty much the same (they're just a lot darker than they have ever been). Shawn has really improved!! His technique is far better and even though he still strains quite a bit in his upper mixed register, he can control his upper mixed notes much better than he used to. Camila, despite having quite a lot of messy runs, still has some AMAZING ones. Her belting and mixing are both a bit better now (she's become more confident in her upper register and her mixed register) but I feel like she can still work on it. And DEMI... OMG WTF? How do they sustain an *A5* and not feel more tired than ever? And the DWTD G5 is one of the best G5s of all time. But i agree that Demi could improve their vocal agility. JoJo has an AMAZING vocal technique... she's definitely up there with the greats (she's a bit behind them but the fact that she's even that good shows that she deserves far more praise than she's getting right now). She is a bit inconsistent with her belting nowadays but I'm sure it would be better if she rests more. I won't be saying much about Wendy since I don't really know her but DANG, she has a good voice ❤️ And for Miley... she's actually healthier than ever right now (both her low notes and belts are as good as they used to be). Miley hasn't really suffered any vocal damage; her low notes just got better and her voice got raspier. Her belting is like it was in 2018 and her low notes are better than EVER 💙

Christina Aguilera - biggest strength - agility, creativity and falsetto biggest weakness - technique (it's really a miracle that she's still able to sing on this level) Shawn Mendes - biggest strength - he had quite good control over his falsetto range and his belting is getting better and better, i'm so proud of him for it. biggest weakness - agility Camila Cabello - biggest strength - agility, falsetto+head voice, creativity biggest weakness - tone, technique (i love her tone, but it's not for everybody, her voice is naturally quite nasal and when she's belting higher it can sound annoying to people, also her technique is not the best, it's not terrible but it needs work and i'm happy she's really working on it, since pandemic started she improved quite a lot, hope she'll continue this way) Demi Lovato - biggest strength - upper belting biggest weakness - agility - their agility is ok, but they absolutely don't know their limits and often trying things that are too difficult for them and it sounds weird. Jojo - biggest strength - i'm agree, her biggest strength is definitely that she's well rounded vocalist biggest strength - inconsistent upper belts ( her technique higher is little inconsistent) Wendy - not a kpop fan so i can't judge Miley Cyrus - biggest strength - lower register, versatility (she can sing any genre really) biggest weakness - head voice + falsetto (she's rarely using her upper registers, i think she has potential but needs work and confidence)

@peanutbutterjellytime61322 жыл бұрын
The reason Camila sounds like that is because she raises her larynx too much. Her placement isnt healthy and is why she is so inconsistent. She also relies heavily on jaw and mouth movement to execute what sounds like a rapid vibrato and she does way too many runs. She could benefit from taking a step back, getting a vocal coach, learning healthy technique, and sprinkling in a well executed run here and there rather than just bombarding the listener with sprinkles.
@nyawina34312 жыл бұрын
Yeah I noticed it. Camila raises her larynx a lot
@dane29502 жыл бұрын
@Rayess I guess they mean Camila raises her larynx to sing higher notes and have some sort of a baby voice (like Britney, for example I mean she was forced to sing like that). And when you raise your larynx too high you're likely to get tongue & jaw tension, which makes your voice so weak and inconsistent and also substantially damages your voice.
@nyawina34312 жыл бұрын
@Rayess The larynx is something on your throat, you can change the pitch of your voice depending on where you place it. In singing, your larynx should not be high or low, it should be at it's natural place so that you can have your natural tone. When you here Camilla Cabello's voice, it's quite unnatural. It's because she places her larynx too high, that's why she sounds like a baby. Britney spears does this too.I hope you've understood, if not just tell me
@lightning05062 жыл бұрын

This what I don't understand about these videos. These videos are supposed to come off as "educational" but it's mere entertainment. Then you have people believing in their own misconceptions and continue to spread them all around the comment section. People pass it off as if it's objective when in reality it's really not. People pick and choose who they target and what narratives they want to spread about certain singers. It's really biased. People need to understand the anatomy and mechanics of singing. Vocal pedagogy is an ever evolving field of study that requires knowledge and expertise. You have people in the comment section making incorrect claims passing it off as it's objective. You know that vocal science and vocal pedagogy is beyond what you take from KZbin. Have you guys ever stopped and think for yourselves? My eyes have been open to the amount of confirmation bias and groupthink mentality that goes in this community. This is what I've noticed. People will over maximize the flaws in singers like Ariana Grande, but will overlook the flaws in singers like Jojo for example. Ariana Grande has a freer voice than Jojo, but people continue to say that Ariana strains above B4 or C#5 knowing that's not true. People will continuously say that Ariana Grande drops "support" above those marks knowing that most people in this misuse the word support because of Matteus and his followers. People are overly obsessed with this "support" thing even though they continue to misuse it and spread false narratives. People will overlook Jojo's amount of tension above D5 because the majority of people think she's a mezzo soprano. So if you're a mezzo soprano according to most people in this space then unecessary forms of tension and constriction is understandable. That's really an insult to mezzo sopranos because people think that struggling with high notes automatically makes someone a mezzo. Even though she's not a mezzo soprano and she has more tension than Ariana can ever have, but oh she's a "mezzo" so that's okay. People don't think about the different coordinations and vocal modes that singers can achieve. That's never discussed because on average people in this space don't understand the mechanics of the human voice. People will overlook the valsalva tension in singers like Ailee, So Hyang, Monica Naranjo, and even in the legendary Mariah's upper belts, but are very quick to point out every flaw in Ariana Grande. These people are nitpicky and I'm starting to really see through this pseudoscience BS. Do Ariana have issues? Yes and so does everyone else. Ariana Grande started to get a bad vocal reputation around 2014/15 with this silly notion of her "dropping support" or "straining." What are some common misconceptions I see in this comment section? High larynx = strain Support meaning no tension and good placement. Confusing tongue retraction with tongue tension Struggling with high notes means you're a lower voice type People pick and choose what narratives they want to push and they do it to elevate their favorite singer while denigrating another.

Something I'd like to say; this is not meant to be educational, this IS entertainment, this is for people to have good time "This is all my opinion, not the ultimate truth" idk what more can I do really

What can I say on the other hand - that's really sad, but ANOF has nothing to do with people misunderstanding his videos. Although I don't understand how people are so easily confused, lmao. If they only knew about all the mechanisms in singing voice - they would never claim such stupid things you've described. I hope things will change eventually cause singing is both - easier and harder than most people are imagining here, I believe they aren't even singers themselves

Regarding Ariana's constant upper-belts, I think the main reason why she still hasn't lost her voice (and even improved throughout the years) is probably her consistent use of head dominant mix... She doesn't need to have a supported or resonant belt all the time (she's improving tho especially in her C5's-D5/Eb5's)... I think it's okay if you have an unsupported belting technique as long as you don't strain your voice... It really brothers me when people assume that unsupported note = strained note, which is not...

Could you please react to/give your thoughts on this Philippine singer named Charice Pempengco (now goes by Jake Zyrus). Back when he was Charice, I do not think I could name a singer as well as he could back even before he reached his prime. Thank you.

I disagree that Christina Aguilera has bad technique. She's been truly unique from a young age. And She's still delivering. Not everything that isn't tehcnically perfect is vocally damaging.
@Sloppyjoey12 жыл бұрын
I don't like "bad" technique as a term but, Xtine certainly has Unhealthy technique. She uses EXTREMELY dragged chest notes all the way to the top (which can be done in moderation) wayyyyy too often. Her headvoice high notes are extremely pushed as well and inappropriately used to mimic whistle register, to the point that her chords are stationary and she is essentially using squeaks and massive amounts of airflow as opposed to true whistle notes which are actually gentle in nature. Stylistically, Xtina oversings quite often, shouts, screams and holds long, pushed notes. She utilizes essentially 0 vocal mix, which again, isn't 'bad' technique, but it's unhealthy to not use mix to your advantage and rely on chest dragging. This leads to extreme duality within her own voice where her Headvoice sounds like a bright, delicate young woman but her chest voice sounds aggressive and unnaturally masculine old man smoking a cigar. I feel you mistake her lack of discipline as "unique" tone, when in actuality, what's unique is Xtina's lack of discipline. Her speaking and singing voice song like entirely different people and it's a huge sign that she's manufacturing her singing voice.

Adele is one of the few singers that, to me almost sounds better in person or a cappella than on a track.

You should listen to some Latin singers like danna Paola or Mon laferte, I think you would really like them
To start my comment off i want to say that this was some great video and i always enjoy watching them. Now i have some clarification and vocal opinions/facts that i would like to throw out for some of my favs Start with ari: when it comes to her jaw alot of the vocal community literally hates her for it🤷🏽♂️ though truth be told jaw movement isnt all that bad simply due to the fact that there is ways to deal with it. Is it the most ideal way to do certain vocal things no but it definitely isnt mega unhealthy as the vocal community is making it seem. Along with this statement i wanted to let u know she is getting better at not using her jaw as much most likely due to the fact that she was and is doing wicked stuff for awhile now. Miley has stated herself she definitely has vocal damage and stuff of that sort. Right now i think her problem is the cigarettes she smokes. Bc that is just clouding up her lungs and doing some jacked up shit to her vocal folds. Demi😂😂 i love them but they can calm down with the runs. Especially if they havent work shopped them before the show or set they r doing. Demi suffers from using their jaw to make their not really agile voice agile which is so interesting to me bc no one really talks about it much like they do ari. But yea refer back to what i said for ari besides the movie part.

Totally agree about Demi being too ambitious for their range and abilities. Demi should stay more in their mid range and perfect that. I can tell how much Demi strains to hit those high notes and sometimes has to dodge them when performing live. For Demi’s vocal health and longevity, I think the really high notes should be mostly avoided, we already have enough sopranos anyway.

I normally find Ariana Grande's singing to be quite impressive and nice to listen to, but your best examples just sounded like she was screaming, not "singing well". idk. Sounded kind of childish and as if she has to scream into the microphone just to get the audience to hear anything. I think now with the whistle tones and her recent music it has become better
