Thanks Dr Berg for all your valuable info. Is the only reason you do not recommend Magnesium Sulfate because it might have an undesired laxative effect, otherwise it’s good? Or are there other problems with it? I am a female and I have on average taken a half a tsp. (500mg) per day of Magnesium Sulfate/ Epsom salt since I was a teenager. I am 70yrs old. I can count on 1 hand how many times I ever had menstrual cramps unlike my sister who use to roll around on the floor in cramping pain. My other family members (father,mother,sister) have all had heart attacks and I haven’t. As a teenager I read Adelle Davis’ book Let’s Eat Right To Keep Fit which introduced me to the high benefits of Magnesium. For colon detox purposes, I’ve taken one Tablespoon (3,000 mg) or more to purposely cause a laxative effect from Magnesium Sulfate. I’m all for taking the best forms of nutrients so do you know if Magnesium Sulfates’ only fault is that it causes in some people diarrhea or are there other defects in taking Magnesium Sulfate/Epsom Salt.Thank You.

Hey Dr Berg, I am a huge fan of yours! Random question for you. Seems like you have recommended Magnesium to many of your clients. I have been on 120 Mg of Pure encapilcaitons glycinate. I want to increase sleep quality, reduce stress(even though it is much better than it was), and increase energy. This is the question. I know we need 300-400 mg of magnesium. I tried to take more. I did 240 one day then got up to about 350mg. I know this must be very uncommon but it increased my anxiety. It was like it turned on the fight or flight mode and then when I backed off it the next few days things got better. Most days my anxiety is a 2-3 but it got up to an 8 and nothing stressful was going on. I saw a few people saying this when I was reading some Amazon reviews. I take an Omega 3, 2000-3000 Iu of Vitamin d per day(including the amount in multi) and that's it. It is really odd. Maybe the mechanism of glycine is causing this? Any guesses? Obviously, there is no way to know for certain. :) Thanks in advance!

When you eat magnesium rich foods, do u get all of those types of magnesium? Or do different foods have different types?
@rachkate763 жыл бұрын
That’s a very generic question- it depends on which amino acids your body is producing as to which compounds they bind with if at all or pass through unbound and unabsorbed. That’s why 99% of people here keep rabbiting on about how they literally take no supplements and get everything from food yet remain obtuse and wilfully ignorant of how absorption even works. They’re the biggest time wasters on this channel.
@aidele57573 жыл бұрын
@@rachkate76 but doesn't Dr. Berg always say that the food source is the best way to absorb vitamins and minerals?
@rachkate763 жыл бұрын
@@aidele5757 he’s also said many times in various videos tho that numerous factors with interfere with your body’s ability to do that effectively or sabotage it. I personally think 10 cups of vegetables a day is idiotic especially for small statured women or sedentary/ injured sick women etc. Having said that, not a single person on earth gets any kind of daily report their body spits out a confirmation receipt for, that states how much from meal x or y went towards magnesium, calcium, vitamin C etc and what chemical compound it was bound to for absorption. You just have to make an assumption that it did it in some form, and in enough quantities then had all the other factors line up like no malabsorption, no stomach acid issues, no issues with digestive enzymes, no celiac, no antibiotics, no situation where you ate spinach but forgot to add in lemon or lime juice to break the oxylate bond so that you could absorb its nutrients, no other supplements you took that interferes with absorption of each other eg didn’t take minerals at the same time and a host of other variables. Unless you literally do eat 10 cups of veggies a day which hardly anyone does especially on OMAD etc then there are nutrients you’re not getting and leaving it to chance to get them all from food every day.

There's also the small matter of depleted soils and farmlands which means food has less minerals
@rachkate763 жыл бұрын

@dsmr32973 жыл бұрын
@@LotusPrayer2 no. Not joking. Pet rats are very common. I wish he had this video when I had mine. I won't get rats again because they are way too smart and treat you like dogs treat you. They'll use the bathroom in designated spots and enjoy running the house! They'll clean your floors if you drop papers or little things, pile them into a corner. But the reason I won't get rats again is because they don't live long. You know how much energy a wild rat can scare you? A pet rat can give you the same energy, but in a positive manner.

@rachkate763 жыл бұрын
Citrate dihydrate is good.
@danielokeeffe58483 жыл бұрын
I think it stands for all minerals, to avoid oxide, carbonate, sulfate, etc. Results in poor absorbability and harder to digest. Zinc citrate and glycinate are good
@TheForgivenman3 жыл бұрын
Be careful with minerals... They have antagonist effects on each other Eg zinc v copper Unless specifically unwell Magnesium is one of the only ones that actually don't mess up overall mineral balance. For extra support maybe try good quality trace minerals in liquid form Otherwise check out Dr Morley Robbins

Dr. Berg, thank you for all your educational videos. I watch constantly and make "the healthiest bread in the world" nearly every week! You mention in this video to stay away from sulfate, carbonate, oxide and hydroxide, but don't say why. I've been using a carbonate product that seems to work well, but now considering other types. Do you mind sharing a little more detail on the not-to-use forms and why?

I'm in a country where you can't buy, for example, Potassium. I had to order it online and it isn't cheap. I've searched through every label from every vitamin company supplier and they're ALL Magnesium Oxide. So, I'm doing the following: Continuing to avoid (as much as possible) the gunk that's out there. Not allow stress to push me around, but trust GD. Buy only organic plants or seeds. Grow my own healthy organic salad varieties. Fertilize organically. Don't spray them with poison. Keep them happy. Protect the bees from spider webs (I relocate the spiders, even if they're whoppers). Make a deal with the slugs, i.e. "Thus far and no further." Use no bee-killing pesticides, no bee-killing sticky, yellow fly paper. Pray for Jesus' help all along the journey. And Gd's peace be with you.

Just recently purchased a magnesium supplement that contains 5 of these in one capsule. Did my research beforehand so knew to avoid the oxides.

People should be careful recommending magnesium glycinate without mentioning the balancing act between magnesium, sodium, and calcium. Taking high absorption magnesium glycinate w/o paying attention to salt & calcium intake can do the opposite, causing heart palpitation, anxiety, and stomach issues, as it did for me. Taking 400mg of magnesium oxide periodically solved my heart issues.

Good morning, how many mg is necessary to have these benefits? I’m taking magnesium glycinate 400 mg for help with sleep & anxiety and I am not sure if I am getting enough. It does help a tad with sleep and I’m wondering if I increase the dose if I would get more of the benefits.
@advanced89983 жыл бұрын
400mg is enough...if you're taking a good version Too much magnesium = diarrhea
@pramuanchutham73553 жыл бұрын
On the back label of Healthy Origins Magnesium bisglycinate, a scoop (2 grams) gives you only 200mg (50%DV), or only 10% of the compound ending up as elemental magnesium that your body nreeds(400mg daily). Don't be misled by the total weight of the compound;you're getting only a tenth of it as free magnesium. So yes, you can increase to 2 scoops(4 grams) to get the daily requirement, not counting other sources such as vegetables or food.
@pramuanchutham73553 жыл бұрын
Magnesium bisglycinate or malate don't cause diarrhea like magnesium citrate, by a long shot. Magnesium Citrate is used to clean the colon for colonoscopy (i was told 8-10 grams).
