Thanks for this, I just bought the S5ii as I'm doing weddings photos for my friend, there's Af-S or Af-C dial on the front of the camera, what one do I use? Also what is the best way to make sure the camera auto focuses on people so as I can just walk around and take pics? Is it the all area mode in the menu? Thanks a Lot, J
@Markchristiankc4 ай бұрын
Happy to help man! AF-C is for continuous auto focus. AF-S is single. Use AF-C. As for what mode to use yeah try wide but if you’re finding you’re wanting someone in a specific zone of your frame use the zone mode

How to reach the focuss settings that you are showing all the time in your video?

through the Q menu button then select the autofocus type. Or you can find this in the focus page of the main settings by hitting menu then navigating to the focus page

I just upgraded to the GH7 From the GH5. This autofocus is is realy different. I shoot events with crowds, what would be the best autofocus setting to shoot in a crowd, without the autofocus going crazy and trying to focus on random people?
@Markchristiankc4 ай бұрын
Congrats on the upgrade! So I think there’s two things you could do. First try sticking to single area af so you only have whatever is in the box as in focus. Then two, in the focusing settings make the sensitivity and focus speed much slower. That should help it not switch focus all over the place. If you’re finding it still too fast manual focus may be the way to go in some instances :)

Either tap on the screen to tell it where you want to focus, or use spot/zone focus.

What autofocus settings would you recommend for a cooking channel? When I need to show the cook and the ingredients being presented. Both cook and ingredients are part of the shot. Also for an up-close shot of cook's hands and food, I am noticing the focus going to the hands and I would like the focus to stay on the food even if hands get on the way.
@Markchristiankc9 ай бұрын
It really depends on the shot. If you’re doing something wide then ‘Wide’ focus mode will work perfectly. If you’re doing closeups but want the food to stay in focus, you’ll likely need to make use of tapping the screen and entering the 1-Area focus mode and make sure to keep that box on the food. Can be difficult with hands moving around in the frame though. You could slow down how quickly your camera responds to subjects moving and how quickly it racks focus as well so it’s not as jumpy. Failing that, manual focus 😁
@UltratecJS9 ай бұрын
@@Markchristiankc Great suggestions thank you. It's also better to shoot at a higher F Stop like 4.0 vs 1.8 in these scenarios no?

Hello! I have a Lumix S5 II - it produces sound in Vegas - as many as 4 tracks - 2 mono and 2 silent. How to make one and stereo? Thank you
@Markchristiankc9 ай бұрын
Hey! So that happens to me too and as far as I can tell you can’t change it in camera. What I do is in davinci resolve I’ll right click on the clip in the media panel and hit ‘clip attributes’. In audio I can change how many tracks there are and what they are. I assume Vegas will have the same thing :)

Hey, what would be a good focus option for mature content streams where the face would be okay to be in focus but some other body parts could be closer to the camera and they should be in focus too, zone and slower aperture?
@Markchristiankc7 ай бұрын
Wide would be fine
@AexoeroV7 ай бұрын
@@Markchristiankc Thanks but i dont remember a wide auto focus option? Do you mean the full? If we get the camera maybe she could use full without human enabled and that would take more in focus not just the face that might be further from the camera than other body parts? Can this professional cameras be set to focus like a gopro does, infinite focus, about everything in focus?

Is it possible to keep the face/person in focus while other objects cover for some seconds, for example a typical performance shot of a singer with a mic in front?
@Markchristiankc11 ай бұрын
Typically yes but I’ve found it depends how much of the persons face is covered. If it’s a small object then yes the eye tracking does a good job 😊

@@Markchristiankc Thanks for the reply! But how about the microphone if it's in front of the face would the af lock on that?
@Markchristiankc10 ай бұрын
@burnieclimber it depends how much in front of the face it is I’d say but if you have it on face and eye lock it should do well. Alternatively you can use zone so it’ll know what area to look in and will lock onto eyes if it detects it

I had the s5 and now I've bought the s5 ii. Maybe it's a setting but I can't change my focus zone size nearly as much as I could on my s5. Is this different or is it a setting I missed?
@Markchristiankc9 ай бұрын
Congrats on the purchase! So if you go into the area focus mode you can push the joystick to move the box and then turn one of the dials on top of the camera to change the size of the box. Is there something different to this that you meant?
@estebalstigopopoluz9 ай бұрын
@@Markchristiankc hello and thank you for answering me. Yes I know that but the little box you can make bigger is much smaller than it was on the s5. I'm sorry if I'm being unclear English isn't my first language as you probably can tell. So my problem is that the focus zone I make bigger is smaller than the same focus zone on the s5 when I turn the wheel to make it bigger. Since this camera has more focus zones I'm surprised you can't make it as big as on the older camera. I must be missing a setting right? I hope I am making sense I can't explain it better I don't have the right words. Once again, thank you for the help.
@Markchristiankc9 ай бұрын
@estebalstigopopoluz no worries about the English it’s perfect :) So if you try setting the focus zone/mode to ‘Wide’ which should be the 2nd from the left, that will give you the entire sensor width to focus with :)

The autofocus on the S5ii has decreased in ability to focus by leaps and bounds. The contrast detection Depth from Defocus was slower to focus but got there. The PDAF for photography doesn’t focus at all about 30% of the time. As a photographer who does very little video I would say the S5ii PDAF is unacceptable. It goes without saying you title should have stated the best autofocus settings for the S5ii relates to the video autofocus. Most of the S5ii autofocus videos are geared for video shooters. The photographer in the audience is being ignored. I tried setting my S5ii up the way you described. You would show the LCD screen very quickly and then show the choices from the menu. I had to stop the video several times and rewatch to catch up to you when you segued. For continuous AF the camera refused to go into Mode2. Turns out Mode2 only works while recording video. I am going to return this camera because of the very poor quality autofocus. I will buy a Fuji camera. The Fuji auto focus may not be as good as the S5ii advertised autofocus but it does work. More than I can say for the S5ii. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
