In New York, bagels are a serious business and you can't get much better than Russ & Daughters :) Other NYC best eats I tried was the black & white cookie, which originated from NY.
I also travelled down to Williamsburg, Brooklyn and met up with a fellow BTS Army friend for some tacos at Gordo's Cantina. Then tried to burn it all of at the next day at the gym lol.

Anna the reason why the bagels are so good in New York is because of water. You could have the best ingredients and yeast. However, if the quality of water isn’t good the texture of dough no matter the bread product isn’t either. Connecticut, New York and New Jersey have some of the best water in America. Yes, we do jaywalk all the time, but I'm more careful now with all the cyclists. There's even more now because they're delivering for apps like Grubhub and Postmates, so they're running red lights and riding on sidewalks to make their deliveries as quickly as possible.

You're correct those are fire escapes. Building owners try to make look aesthetically pleasing here in NY so it doesn't turn off perspective tenants. Although some do use them as terraces when to weather is nice for fresh air and to relax.

Also go to Absolute bagels in the Upper West Side. They have really good bagels, often considered the best in Manhattan. Lines around the block though.

No noo nooo technically no place in N.Y is that bad even in the outer boroughs like Bronx (she probably wont dare), Jamaica Queens and pretty much all of Brooklyn, it's not that bad ofcourse being aware is logical but nah...too many police in the belly of the beast
