Excellent video Gary! I’d go there for sure. Love these roadside food carts. The kids were blown away meeting their first local KZbinr 😃🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

How good was that? Well presented Gary, only a parent could handle the kids wanting to be in the video and carry on chatting. They were fun. I loved that you kept it in. Every dish looked epic, and that sweetcorn salad was so vibrant, spicy heaven. Would eat every dish. Your friend has done well with the little restaurant at the end, delicious looking food all around.

Nice one, Gary. Aside from the food, your feeding that pup with two snacks, and the kids playin' on KZbin made this special. Thanks for getting me salivating.
Haven’t watched one of your videos in a while and seeing Buster and knowing I’ve wandered around there was quite a fever dream!! Hope you are well

So delish food you find on little stalls 😋and that`s a gorgeous little green spot in BKK to eat relaxed, lovely how the kids have fun with you. I think the spirit of Thai food are the ingredients, - my friend told me, "you have to have a party in your mouth with all the herbs and spices " ! Thank you Gary, yummy episode 👍🍜🌶🌶🌶🌶

I don't know what's more fun; your food reviews here or, the kids acting a fool. My fav. Pad Kee Mao story is an auntie was getting sick of a group of guys coming to her stand every night and getting loaded, (as you may have noticed, some Thai men will take over a road side stand and hang out on the one stone table all night.) So; she starts loading the noodles they order with mega spice to ruin their night, they love it and keep coming back for more!

I loved the kids in the video. That’s been the best part of discovering these locations…interacting with the locals. I had a great meal at basil gypsy and some great som tam on the street nearby. I arrived at 11am on Thursday and there were no line of food carts like in the video. I still had a great time but left wondering if the food carts are Mostly in the morning or evening.

Hi Gary. Thanks for the video, I'm going to Thailand for about 6 weeks starting May 2 and this is exactly what I'm looking for whenever I travel - the local stuff. It looked like the sun was setting when you had finished the pad krapow, what time are these stalls open? I'm an older solo traveller so it's always hard to taste a variety of dishes as I get too full! Do you do food tours or do you know of anyone? There's heaps out there but I'm looking for something a bit different and definitely a local experience. A tour would mean I'd taste a heap of different things in smaller quantities so I can really stuff my face. Thanks Gary, I'm dying for some honest Thai food. From Melbourne Simon.

I moved to The Key back in late 2014, and left in early 2017. There was bugger all around the BTS station in the first year, but it started to get interesting around 2016. I never bothered venturing too far north of the expressway, reasoning that Rattanakosin had what I needed. Anyway, I'm back for a week soon, staying in a little place called The Quarter, so I will definitely check out some of these spots, Gary. Cheers!
Thank you for feeding dog. You are so kind. I wish all good things return to you and your family. Happy Songkran festival.

Love the Pad Kaprao as ever! Have you done any videos over near Bang Kapi? Moving over to Bangkok in August so any recommendations over that way would be good!
@SwingEzzZZ Жыл бұрын
Gary, I don't know if you ever try another version of Pad Kraprow. The one you have at the end of the clip is called Pad Kraprow Rad Khao. So, he stir fries (pad) the Kraprow Moo Sub first and then put it on top of white rice ( put on top = rad = ราด). There is another version called Khao Pad Kraprow Klug where the rice and everything is put in the wok and fried simultaneously. (Klug = mix = คลุก) You can tell if the chef is good at fried rice when the last grain of rice is still hot in your mouth. Enjoy.

Hi Gary! Fantastic video as always! I have a question about Nam Tok. I love Thai food and i was in Bkk a couple of times but I never tasted it. I tried it yesterday and it was too rich for me. It was not just spicy (which i like) i was too salty. Should it be very salty?

@theroamingcook Жыл бұрын
I thought I said it at the end but maybe I cut it out 🤦♂️ the second was 120 baht for two dishes and noodles and the pad kaprao he didn’t charge me for but they start at 25 or 30 baht there. Mine would have been 50/60 I think

Pad Kaprao would be about $20 in my Seattle neighborhood . . . and not as good.
I think Thai "salads" need to be in a different category as they have no resemblance to the lettuce/cucumber/tomato rubbish we get on the side of our plate in the UK that always go in the bin! 🙂
@theroamingcook Жыл бұрын
Literally just meat and chilli 😂
@wisarut.nualkaew Жыл бұрын
Yes!, I mean as Thais we all know the word “salad” as we use สลัด(salad) for a dish that has a lot of vegetables and dressing in it like a western salad. So for me Yum or Namtok or Laab and Salad are different category.

Sometimes the titles of videos are just cringy! Wherever you go, that place has to have best street foods in the world. So question is which country has the best street foods for you? Vietnam? Thailand? Or?
@theroamingcook Жыл бұрын
I agree with you Kevin! I was just having a bit of fun with it, hence the (probably) in brackets. As I said in my video from Saigon, I think Vietnam has the best soups and breads but obviously I love Thai soup as well. Thailand has other things that I prefer. I live in Thailand so I know more about the food and I don’t want to make it a competition, they are my two favourite places to eat!
