Must be delicious Dave! Here in The Netherlands we eat the stew also often with fries. Suggestion nations with the letter "C", Canada, Cambodja, Chili, Cuba, China. What a fun idea to make recipes from all those nations in alfabetic order. Many greetings from Deborah

I've eaten this once or twice and it's delicious. Great to have a recipe. I'm on stew detail this weekend - In my case, its oxtail. Got a lovely piece in the butchers today. Yes, it's 4 hours of cooking, but it's worth it 👌 Cheers Dave. Hope you're all well?

i'm affraid you did forget the bread and mustard though then again you can do whatever you like with this dish, some like to use different meats, different beers, different spices, it's really quite open, as long as the basics stay.

Tip from a Flemish guy: you can also add some dark chocolate to make the sauce even richer. And also ‘peperkoek’, a bit like gingerbread, with mustard 😋

I can almost smell it for myself! I don't use a pressure cooker but suspect the long-cook will be fine in the oven.

You Missed out the belgian/french style gingerbread slices (it is more of a cake than biscuit) which are spread over with dijon mustard

The Belgian Carbonnade looked so good it’s, “mouth watering!” I love all of the ingredients you used to go into your dish! 😋 I sure wish we had “smell-o-vision!” 😃 🤔 How about a dish from Canada! EH! 🇨🇦🍁 Gotta love those French fries, using home grown Canadian potatoes! 🥔 Or mashed potatoes and gravy! 🥔spuds🥔 I’m not sure of a dish (supper) but for some reason, I have cauliflower/broccoli on my mind, smothered on top, shredded real cheese of your choice! 😊 Can’t you tell I’m hungry?!?! 😂 11:30 am here, 🤔 almost lunch time! 🥳 From One Canuck to another! 🥂 P.S. Yes it is really tasty but make sure that when you're making it you have a way to get rid of the smoke from the meat because the smel asts for days.

Hi. I would recommend mine, but they don't make it any more. There are a couple that I looked at that I would buy. They seem reasonable and have the features I want. This one amzn.to/3dGGGb1 has the glass door in front, which I really like, and not too many bells and whistles which is often good. They also have one that's a bit more expensive amzn.to/3R2fMrG It has the glass door as well and has a few more features. I haven't tried these, but it would be my choice. Hope this helps.

My dad uses pork meat and adds some other ingredients like coca cola, beer and chocolate and HOLY **** i've traveled to many places, but nothing can compete with it.

It is my understanding that bacon is not in the original recipe. Flour and butter are also optional. The beer is what enriches the flavor so a dark ale is recommendable. Just try to make it without those optional items so the recipe is a bit healthier. It can also be made in a dutch oven.

Almost. This is surely delicious. I can see. But this is NOT a Flemish stew. The specific ingredients to the tastes and seazoning what makes it a flemish stew are completely absent. You need cinnemon, cloves, nutmeg, bread with Dijon type mustard (not the sweet mustard). The taste you want is a perfect balance between that gingerbread taste, hearty and sweet and bitter. That's what makes it "Carbonade Flamende" (french for Flemish Stew. Flemish from Flanders which is in Belgium).

We always put in a couple of slices of bread with Dijon mustard on them into the pot before simmering it. Brings thickness and acidity to the stew.
