You should explain what's the difference between bitrate and resolution...
@Sovrakha3 жыл бұрын
I don't actually know enough about the both of them to make a video on it, but I'll do my best to explain it in this comment; Resolution is a number based on the number of pixels being displayed. So for example; a 1080p monitor has a resolution of 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels tall. Multiply those numbers and we get the total amount of pixels in the frame, that number being 2,073,600 pixels. The higher the resolution, the more pixels are needed, and a consequence of a higher resolution is a clearer image. The "64 bit, 32 bit, 16 bit" meme videos on KZbin actually do a good job of helping visualize this. Here's an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWnZnH2VrZZ0aKs As for bitrate - Bitrate is a type of video compression, and the value given determines how many pixels and details are actually captured per second. The greater the video resolution, the higher the bitrate you will need in order to get the full quality of said resolution. So a 720p video would need a much lower bitrate to capture all the details in 720p (921,600 pixels per frame), when compared to say a 4k video which has 8,294,400 Pixels per frame. So in conclusion; Higher resolution = More detail, sharper image Higher bitrate = More of the resolution is actually captured Bitrate is also the biggest player in terms of how big your file will be. Higher bitrate does mean better quality, but it also means bigger file size. Tom Scott has a really good video on bitrate: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGe1oWCrpJt7o6s My goal with this video was to find the "sweet spot" of bitrates at 1080p and 1440p, at least for recording/uploading to KZbin. The "sweet spot" being 'file size' VS 'discernable visual quality'.
@prich03822 жыл бұрын
Bitrate and resolution are independent of each other. At a given resolution, the bit rate determines how much information in bits there is per second. Also have to take into account frame rate as the higher the frame rate at a given Bitrate, the lower the quality per frame, so 60 FPS recording would need (not exactly) about twice the Bitrate of a 30 FPS recording to maintain the same quality.

i have been recording in 50,000 kbps 1080p and kinda struggling with file sizes. with your video i've decided to turn it down to 25,000 kbps. You're right, once it hits youtube it's barely noticeable
@masterlee19883 жыл бұрын
On KZbin 4k uploads can use more than 25000 kbps like around 30000 kbps even. It's best to record in 1080p or 1440p at 50000 kbps and upscale to 4k(or do a native 4k rendering) and then upload that 4k vid on KZbin to take advantage of the bitrate more. Uploading a 1080p vid without upscaling to 4k when the bitrate is even at 25000 kbps is kind of pointless as 1080p only uses up to 6000 kbps on KZbin. Though for space it's nice to have a bigger hard drive, I even have a 4TB hard drive for that.

25,000 kb/s is still a bit overkill for 1080p. I record at 12,000 kb/s for 1080p, and 24,000 kb/s for 1440p.

Thanks so much! I've been recording at 1440p 25mbps but I haven't been to pleased with the quality after uploading to youtube. I hate the compression artifacts a lot so now I'm going to start recording at 50mbps and hopefully that'll help decrease the artifacting just enough to where I think the quality is more acceptable. I wish youtube didn't compress videos so much as they do but with the amount of videos uploaded every second and how much hardware must be required to save that unbelievable amount of data I totally understand why they have to do it and honestly I'm surprised that youtubes quality can be as good as it is right now.

@masterlee19883 жыл бұрын
100 Mbps is pretty pointless for KZbin, but you got to have at least 50 Mbps and upload in a minimum of 4k to have better bitrate for gaming vids.
@Xoilen4 ай бұрын
From the testing I've done over the past couple days at 1440p 60fps it seems it's best to record in 25-50kb/s and then export your video at 80kb/s before uploading to save as much quality during youtube compression as possible.
@Sovrakha4 ай бұрын
Interesting... 50kb/s only captures a certain level of detail, so exporting at 80kb/s would technically be adding unnecessary file size to the finished render. Export bitrates can only be as good as the raw clip with the highest bitrate, so maybe exporting it at a higher bitrate helps specifically for uploads on KZbin.
@JenyaIsJustChilling2 жыл бұрын
I recomend using CQP option in OBS - it will adjust bitrate on the go, and it's better than VBR or CBR, because when you set a bitrate - you force your PC to render video in real-time, while CQP is much flexible and much better in quality. For example, if you get a scene with lets say 50 Mbps in CQP - it would be better than forced 50 Mbps in CBR. The downside of CQP - you never know how much space a file could take - it could be very smal (because the game is old pixelated platformer for example, or you spent the whole time in game menus or character inventory), or it could be very large.
@JenyaIsJustChilling2 жыл бұрын
I use CQP value of 17 at the moment.
@pasklplay Жыл бұрын
But how can i render in cqp by premiere pro? There is no that option, only cbr or vbr.
@JenyaIsJustChilling Жыл бұрын
@@pasklplay i guess you can't, but you don't need to. Because as i said - recording is a REAL-TIME process, when rendering the final video is OFFLINE process. Using CBR mode and same bitrate for recording and for rendering will give you DIFFERENT results. 50 Mbps of real-time encoding (recording footages), and 50 Mbps of offline rendering give you different quality, because when you record 1 minute video, you force your PC to encode it in this 1 minute, which results in poorer quality, but when you render 1 minute video, you can spend 5, 10 minutes, or more, which results in better quality, even with The Same Bitrate. CQP - for real-time recording. Everything else - for final render.

Hi! Nice video! I’m recording my gameplay atm. At 40k bitrate 1440p 60fps, but I can notice a little bit of stuttering in the end videos and also a tiny bit of stuttering ingame while recording. Do you have any idea as of what could be coising this micro stuttering? I have an i7 8700k on 4.3 ghz, an rtx 2070s oc-d to 2ghz, and 16gigs of 3200 ram. While ingsme and recording my cpu seems to be at around 30% load, and my gpu is at 85-100%. My goal is to upload to youtube in 1440p 60fps, smooth and beautyful. I’m recording in mp4 atm, and im using filmora wondershare 9 to edit the videos, and I export the videos from there after cut in same settings.
@Sovrakha4 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks for your comment! What are you using to record? Your GPU being at 100% could be the cause for some of the stuttering, both in-game and in the recording. To fix this you can cap the fps in whatever game you're playing or by enabling VSync, or Adaptive Sync if you have it. Many modern games let you cap your FPS somewhere in the settings menu. Also, what refresh rate is the monitor you're playing on? I had some issues with my recordings when my monitor was set to 144hz, but it fixed it by setting it to 120hz. I'm thinking that the best way to achieve smooth recordings is to get a capture card, but it costs a pretty penny in order to get something that'll do 1440p 144hz passthrough with 60fps recording.
@MeowTime244 жыл бұрын
Sovrakha thank you for the response! I’m using OBS, and I’m happy to share that I’va fixed the issue! It was such an oblivious thing, I literally just had to run OBS as administrator and that instantly fixed the stutter. I posted questions about this on 3 forums and noone knew the answer, then When I was desperately scrolling trough other forum posts that had stutter in the title I found someone that said what worked for him was to run as admin. Tried it and ye that was my issue too! So if you make any more vids about this in the future, def include to make sure to run as admin as this is such a dumb and easy thing to miss and it can cause days of confusion - like in my case.

for 1080p60fps minimum bit rate 16K bit rate basically youtube recommendation the mid range is 32K bit rate and maximum 48K above maximum 64K and overkill 100K bit rate 1440P60fps minimum 28K mid 42K max 64K so on 4K 32K minimum 42K mid and 64K should be mid and 84K max basically higher resolution will require higher bit rate depending on youtube compression if you get AVC01 all bit rate gonna be garbage and going above 10K wont make a difference but 1440p automatically get VP09 codec so higher res wont lose data due to trash codec youtube compresses they apply to 1080p now 1080p regardless of bit rate default gonna get AVC01 but there rumors that youtube reencode if you get more views or subs atleast its the theory and either gonna get VP09 or AV1 i wonder if 1080p exported with h265 gets VP09 or its h264 that causes AVC01 codec to be set by default on 1080p but the higher bit rate the better if you have enough spare space and performance

What is your opinion on recording at a higher resolution than the native resolution . I use nvidia GeForce to record gameplay at 1080p but now that i know KZbin compresses the bitrate anyway I'm thinking of setting the recording to 4k with 50 mbps bitrate even though my monitor is 1080p only . Will this be useful or am I wasting time ? ( My aim is to upload 1080p hd 60fps videos with high bitrate from my 1080p monitor )
@Nogardtist2 жыл бұрын
@@danischannel if a monitor supports up to 1080p then you most likely wont be able to record things in higher then 1080p unless you use some workaround that bypasses the resolution but it might make other problems that i never tried nor know about 50 mbps is like what 50K kbps its ok but i think 64K bit rate for 1080p is more then enough it also depending on storage space and performance but no matter what bitrate you upload youtube will compress it so either try to record at 1440p or above natively to force VP09 codec that should be 9000kbps instead of AVC01 coded that just around 600kbps even worse then streaming quality but if you record low bit rate and it gets compressed so the detail would be twice as bad then having high bit rate in the first place 4K 50mbps or 50K kbps might be minimum but i think 86K kbps should be its high setting but it can be pushed above that but heres gonna be 2 critical problem and its storage space and performance it might double or even triple with storage space alone at 4K60fps then it would be in 1080p60fps as for FPS it might be demanding for the CPU to encode all that data and even GPU might have to land a hand to CPU i dont have the ability to play games at 4K even with 2K its struggles cause i have 1050ti and a monitor that has native 2K resolution but i dont have a 4K at all also depends on editing software you probably gonna want to change it settings to also export videos at best quality or even use custom settings and also it depends on the game if theres a lot of color change and rapid movement the bit rate refresh would have way higher rate then something more stationary or with pixel style graphics as for upscale 1440p and native 1080p there very minimal difference and hard to notice unless you zoom in and look trough pixel to pixel so quality would be good even if you upscale but 1080p is not far from 2K so the details would probably get blurry on 8K resolution as if anyone can even afford to have 8K natively either way its gonna be difficult to balance storage space and performance to get best possible quality also if you care about your files save them on external drive cause google storage its already keeping the compressed version so you very likely gonna get an inferior version

You should know that when youtube processes the video file, the maximum bit-rate is 50Mb or 50000kb. So even if you record with 100Mb, KZbin gonna lower is to 50Mb. and 30Mb is the best if your PC can handle it, if not, 10mb is the minimum.
@Zaptosis2 жыл бұрын
KZbin & Google as a whole measures data in binary units, 1024. 50,000 Kb = 48.8 Mb, not 50 Mb according to KZbin, just wanted to point that out as you used decimal units interchangeably. However even with KZbins compresses it to 50,000 Kb I still feel like the video would look better cause your giving their proprietary algorithm more data to work with, at least that's just my theory, maybe I should do some tests.

Even though KZbin has it's own maximum bitrates that it will compress your video to, recording in the highest quality will result in the highest render/upload quality even after youtube compresses it. There is a point of diminishing returns though.

Hey sorry for the late reply. I checked out those vids you mentioned, and I think what you're referring to is called 'compression artifacts'. Changing the framerate shouldn't cause those artifacts, so it more likely had something to with changing the recording quality. Compression artifacts are caused by low quality, low bitrates or heavy compression, so changing the quality to Original like you did looks to have fixed that part.

So sorry for the late reply, It might be due to the bitrate you're recording with, or the recording method. I'm not very experienced with extreme quality retention, or lossless capture, but if you're using OBS you can try CQP instead of CBR for your recordings. CQ level 14 is essentially lossless, so anything below that is essentially useless. And the higher you go, the lower the quality. Try playing with that and test your results. Remember file size. Good luck

@DelightfullyMatched Жыл бұрын
40-50mbps if you MUST go with CBR, it truly is the sweet spot when it comes to youtubes compression/production, though I would highly recommend recording with CQP if possible, it records with as little bitrate as it needs to get a good picture and as high, obvious caps depending on your CQP values, this overall has saved on space and helped slightly improve render times, prior I'd record with a CBR of 40mbps, switched to CQP20 (caps at 45mbps) and there's no difference other than smaller file sizes, anything beyond CQP18 is overkill for youtube after it does what it does even with vp09 I've noticed though so I just leave it at 20 for now After that I just render using h265 in resolve because it's much more efficient than h264 in render times, size, and bitrates, since KZbin compresses regardless of how you render you may as well not render something ungodly massive in filesize that will also take forever to upload, I often see people will render their videos at twice what their bitrate was which confuses me since it gets squished anyway and you're just wasting compute time and I've noticed no difference in rendering a 40mbps bitrate at 50mbps vs 120mbps, if anyone does have better tips or ideas I'd love to know because I try to push as much as I can for quality - Izzy :D This was a fantastically well done video regardless for people to learn more

So sorry for the late reply, If your monitor is 1440p and you're playing the game at 1080p then technically you /could/ capture the screen at 1440p, but you would not have a real 1440p recording of the game. The game would still only be 1080p. If you really wanted to record the game at 1440p you would need to play the game at 1440p.

What about bitrate in adobe premiere ?
@Sovrakha4 ай бұрын
The bitrate for your export in premiere should be as high as, or lower than, the highest bitrate of clip you used in the edit for the best quality + smallest file size. So let's say you record your clips in 50,000kb/s; your bitrate in Adobe Premiere should be 50,000kb/s or lower, but as close to 50,000kb/s to maintain quality. However, I've been hearing other people say that rendering higher than that is better if you want better quality once uploaded to KZbin, so you can try rendering higher than 50,000kb/s in our previous example and see if the quality changes are noticeable.

@Sovrakha4 жыл бұрын
It could depend on what you're playing. Games with lots of motion/high action will require a higher bitrate than slower-paced games. If you aren't seeing a big difference (or the difference isn't that big to you) between 30k and 40k, then I'd go with 30k to save on file size. The maximum bitrate I would recommend recording 1080p at would be 50k, the file sizes aren't worth it past 50k.

KZbin's recommended bitrate is what you upload your final file as. You should record at a higher bitrate and render to a lower one before uploading it. That way you get the benefit of uploading a smaller file size while not compromising on quality.

I do really need it so if you think you can help me with this, go ahead... Its been 2-3weeks now and im dealing with some bitrate problems, ive seen to many videos how to fix it and whats the best bitrate for gaming but i cant deal with this shit, ive tried everything and i still cant get it right. I use nvidia shadowplay instantreplay to record my gaming clips and the thing is ive been recording my clips with 1440p on 50mb bitrate because i read somewhere that the higher the bitrate is the quality of the video is more clear to see. Yeah i have checked it too, ive tried recording my clips from 10mb bitrate to 50mb but the problem is, when i record my clips on 50mb they are not smooth at all, i face some drop fps at some parts of the video, but i dont have dropfps ingame, just in recording. Why is this happening? Is there smth i can do because i can use some help here, please. How can i record my clips the same way i play in it, you know, because the game is pretty smooth but when i record it, it turns out shit. Also, i wanted to mention that i have a 1440x900 monitor and i use sonyvegas to render my videos, i had some problems with rendering but i have fixed it. All i need to know is that how can i deal with this, because i dont want to record my video at 10mb bitrate, they are lowquality as fuck.
@Sovrakha4 жыл бұрын
Your monitor is 1440x900? That's only 900p. If you're trying to record at 1440p with a 900p monitor, that's most likely your problem. Try recording at 900p instead. 1440p is 2560x1440, not 1440x900. Also - Even though your game looks smooth when playing, that doesn't mean your recording will be smooth. If your GPU is near 100% load while playing a game, there's not much resources left for your GPU to use to record and encode. Try playing on lower graphics settings, capping your frame rate, or reducing your bitrate when recording. Yes, I know you said you looked up videos about bitrate, and you've asked the question "which bitrate is the best for recording?" But you need a good enough computer to be able to record using the best settings. The Bitrate isn't just a number that you can change without a consequence, higher bitrates need more computer power. If your computer is struggling to record at high quality, there isn't anything you can do except turn down the quality or buy better computer parts. I never recommend buying computer parts first, though. Keep playing around with different recording settings, figure out what the best YOUR computer can do first. Smooth footage with a lower bitrate looks much better than high bitrate footage that stutters. That's my advice. TL;DR: - (For improving smoothness of recordings, and reducing load on your GPU); -Record at the same resolution as your monitor, or lower. -Reduce your bitrate. -Reduce your graphics in-game, or cap your framerate to 60 (or 30 if you plan to record at 30fps). -Record to an SSD, NOT to an HDD. Hard Drives are very slow, and recording to them is painful. Upgrade to a Solid State Drive if you don't have one, this is the ONLY thing I recommend purchasing IF you do not already have one and none of the other tips above are helping. -Research more about CPU's, GPU's, computer bottlenecks, and buy better computer components (if the above tips don't help). -Research even more and buy a 2nd computer and a capture card. (NOT recommended for you). I hope this helps, good luck!

Do you mean 1440p? Sometimes if your connection isnt great, or if you're on WiFi, or if KZbin itself is being slow, it will downscale the video quality to a lower resolution until a more stable connection resumes. However, If you're watching at only 144p then it will always be blurry 😉

I record at 50. But the one that really matters is the bitrate after edit. I render out at 35 and the video looks like crap after youtube compression. Especially for videos that has a lot of movement or trees and leaves. I think 50 is required to get a decent video on youtube. I.e Record at 50 - edit and render at 50.
@Sovrakha4 жыл бұрын
The rendering bitrate matters too, yes. However KZbin's compression and video codecs are really what make the difference here. If you upload a 1080p video, and it has less than a certain number of views (I think it's under 1000), it will use the AVC codec, which looks like crap on KZbin. If you upload at least a 1440p resolution video, it will automatically be uploaded to KZbin using the VP9 codec, which looks much better. So, unfortunately I've found that it's difficult to test quality comparisons on KZbin unless you're able to consistently get that VP9 codec playback, and the only way to do that is to either get a decent amount of views on your video so KZbin upgrades the quality, or upload at a minimum of 1440p. You COULD Record at 1080p and render in post at 1440p to force the VP9 codec when uploading to KZbin, but that's up to you to decide. I hope this helps!

@@Sovrakha It's not bad as bad, but it's most non-efficient method of recording. An OK for beginners since it's as simple as a rock. It's good for livestreaming, where the net can have difficulties in handling bitrate fluctuations. But for offline it is least efficient method. You're wasting your drive space on low complexity scenes and high complexity ones are limited in bitrate with the value you set. With constant compression (CQP) you can have same file size (average bitrate) as with CBR, but overall quality will be much better. Even more better if you use nvenc VBR_HQ with cq parameter (constant quality) trough custom ffmpeg in OBS.

@Sovrakha2 жыл бұрын
So sorry for the late reply, No, upload speed does not matter when recording. It's only applicable to streaming. If you are recording, your only interest in this case is the bitrate. Bitrate is relative to your resolution (720p, 1080p, etc). The higher your resolution, the more bitrate you'll need to capture detail. Think of resolution as how many pixels there are, and think of bitrate as how many of those pixels are being captured.

@@_xewo_9856 If you're using x264 then yes, the preset will also make a big difference in quality. I looked at your most recent video and it looks like the quality is good, but being crippled by KZbin. Here's the thing about KZbin - If you upload a video at 1080p or lower, KZbin will upload it using a low quality codec. So even if you record your clips and render them in Filmora @ 150,000 kb/s, KZbin is going to compress it heavily. KZbin recommends uploading 1080p 60fps videos at 12,000 kb/s, so any bitrate higher than that is going to be lost at 1080p, ON TOP of the fact that KZbin is going to use a low quality codec. The solution; Record at, OR render your final video at 1440p. KZbin uses the VP9 codec for videos uploaded at 1440p or higher. The VP9 codec is much better than the codec they use for videos at 1080p and lower resolutions. You can either record your clips at 1440p and then render them in filmora at 1440p, OR you can continue recording at 1080p and place them on a 1440p timeline in Filmora, then render the video in Filmora at 1440p. Finally; if you only plan on uploading to youtube, you probably don't need to use a bitrate higher than 50,000. However - If you still plan on using high bitrates to record, try rendering your final video in Filmora at 1440p and 24,000 kb/s. I hope this wall of text helps lol
