You have no idea how much of an amazing explanation this is. Thank you for such a detailed but simple explanation. I am producing my own (basic, fun) travel videos which are a combination of photos & videos (high bitrate videos from GoPro & comparatively lower bitrate videos from mobile) . I had been shooting 1080p videos but noticed downgrade when hyperlapse videos or heavy movement clips were involved. Rendering 1080p video projects to 1440p for youtube upload did help, but the info you have provided is really going to be helpful longterm. 1080p @ 40MB and 1440p @ 60MB. This is really helpful. For my requirement, I will try shooting 1080p @ 50MB bitrate on both GoPro & mobile. Render that to 1440p @ 50MB bitrate for youtube. Thanks again. Wow, that was great info. Excited to experiment.

Very cool video! I liked and subscribed. I just uploaded my first 720p video to KZbin. I was very upset that my project was much lower quality than the original file on my PC. I found out that KZbin gives 1440p videos the crispy vp9 codec. So, I am currently uploading a 2560x1440 version of the file @ 15 mbps + 60 mbps (thanks to watching your video) to KZbin to see if there is any difference.
@GaugausGamingandBlahBlah3 жыл бұрын
Then one day you will notice KZbin 1440p encoded video quality is crap compared to their 2160p hehe. But lower res = lower bitrate = lower bandwidth, they do that on purpose. Low bandwidth means a lot to average users. Not for me though, I prefer best possible quality, because I upload to preserve, not for normal daily watching.

@calmo.3 жыл бұрын
thanks for the super work you have done on this! however, i think it lacks an important discussion element that is the codec used by KZbin. Normally YT uses avc1 for 1080p and vp09 for higher resolutions (you can find it by clicking the right button on the youtube video and choosing "statistics for nerds"). Sometimes, for bigger channels, KZbin chooses vp09 also for 1080p. Codec vp09 usually delivers higher quality videos with respect to avc1. This fact could change the concluding results.
@TechGuides3 жыл бұрын
Yes, except that there is no channel that I know of that gets VP9 on 1080p videos at the moment. I think YT disabled VP9 below 1440p alltogether

Would be nice if KZbin used vp9 for 1080p uploads. With 1080p upscaled to 1440p, the problem would be that people who are expecting actual 1440p quality would be disappointed. But I guess it's still better than 1080p avc.

@@DeLeo_77 nope it wasn't worse. And I got gigabit internet recently so even if I had stayed with 100mbps it would only take a minute or two to upload now. The slowest part now is waiting for KZbin to reencode it and post the different resolutions. That part still takes forever.

Nice, I was pretty close capturing games at 75mbps at 1440p. KZbin really does give you a lot more bit-rate to work with at 1440p, in fact I would say that going from 1080 to 1440 is the best thing you can do for gaming footage on youtube. Besides that, 75mbps is just a good bit-rate to have your footage at to watch in general. Also, it's useful seeing how the 1440p line goes up more significantly than the 1080p line after your theoretical ideal limit. Will keep this in mind for certain games.
@masterlee19882 жыл бұрын
I used to upload at 1440p but then found out about 4k and honestly it's quite better than 1440p for bitrate. 4k is the best balance of bitrate and upload speed on KZbin.

Honestly I think 80mbps would be the max to go with for 4k as above that it won't be that much different between it and 100mbps(unless 80mbps isn't enough for certain games). Even then you don't need 80mbps for every game as many are even fine at 50 and 60mbps. Like 2D games for example, using anything above 50mbps for the most part won't be that different from 80-100mbps as it won't be compressed much if at all due to the bitrate being high enough to handle it along with graphical effects not being intensive as 3D games. And that's another thing, graphical effects also affects the video quality. As you can see, KZbin doesn't base quality on fix bitrate but instead they use variable bitrate quality which means if there's less motion or graphical effects are going on then the video quality on certain scenes would be great, it's why it's easier to do 2D games and scenes that aren't as motion heavy(normally cutscenes)while anything that's really fast like many games can result in compression due to their variable video quality not being able to keep up and use as much bitrate. I have recorded and uploaded a gaming vid in native 4k and when I went to download it using 4k Downloader, even though it was uploaded at 80mbps and kept a lot of the quality, the compression was still there in parts as the bitrate for the downloaded vid was around 17mbps. Funny enough I uploaded upscaled 4k vids in like 50mbps and after downloading the video it came around 25mbps. What this means is that depending on the game and what's going graphically in the scenes, it's completely random for what the actual bitrate will be when uploading at any high bitrate. The fact that when you record at a higher bitrate(80) but have a lower bitrate on KZbin(17) and you record at a lower bitrate(50) but have a higher one on KZbin(25) just proves that KZbin relies on what's going on in the video more than just relying on the highest bitrate available. High bitrates at 50mbps and above always helps, but KZbin will determine which bitrate the vid will have due to what's going on in the game. In short, record between 50-80mbps(100 if it's still compressed at 80mbps) and choose which games to use those bitrates as it varies on them and be aware that it's so random for what KZbin decides to pick for the outcome of the bitrate since they use variable bitrate quality that relies on motion, graphical effects and if it's 2D or 3D.
@TechGuides3 жыл бұрын
Oh that's a lot of text :) Yes this test was specifically designed for fast paced action games like modern warfare. Also, I deliberately used two different games (one very graphically intensive, the other not so) to show the variability in resulting bitrate. And yes, 2D games would have muuuuuch lower saturation points for sure!
@masterlee19883 жыл бұрын
@@TechGuides Yeah I wanted to say that since there's a lot to it and KZbin doesn't make it so easy. It's so random for what it does to bitrate when you upload at high bitrates even and it's variable bitrate quality will only keep what it likes and compress what it can't handle. But it's for the best to upload at a high bitrate regardless since their compression can be awful if it's at a lower bitrate already to begin with. It's recommended to do at least 4k 60fps uploads for gaming vids because anything lower and video quality can suffer more depending on the game and what's going on in the scenes. KZbin honestly needs to allow for higher bitrates for 720p and 1080p because what they have is so low, like under 10mbps low when they compress the vids at resolutions like that, lol. To avoid that I normally do 4k uploads for years, upscaling for most years and even did some native 4k recently and it's been a life saver for those vids.
@rroum Жыл бұрын
@@masterlee1988 so basically i should just render at 4k 60fps with a bitrate of 80 to 100mbps just to be safe right?
@masterlee1988 Жыл бұрын
@@rroum Maybe, but KZbin will scale it down to 20-30 mbps since KZbin technically can't support the full 80+ mbps. I would argue 50mbps would be more than enough for KZbin so it'll scale it down to 20-30mbps which means it'll use at least nearly half or half of 50mbps for the most part.

Yes absolutely, these are only for fast paced shooters

Ok I already subscribed, and now I will ask you a question, maybe you mentioned it but my English is a bit short and there are no subtitles. What bitrate should I record a warzone gameplay for example if I record at 1080 but I'm going to export at 1440 60 mbps?
