I have a theory about bb. I heard some theories about bb vs luffy where it is bb (devil fruits) vs luffy(haki) and shanks getting killed by bb we know bb have 2 devil fruit that are the strongest of its kind. The yami fruit ( strongest logia ) and gura fruit (strongest paramecia) then it strucked me. Devil fruits are the embodiment of people's dreams and bb have 2 of them and its the strongest then why wouldn't he take the best zoan out there why wouldn't he take a fruit that could make IMAGINATIONS come to reality. Yes i think he'll take luffy's fruit knowing about what happened at wano. I think he'll steal it after the fight of luffy vs shanks where luffy wants to prove he has become a great pirate but luffy will be defeated by shanks but both of them are exhausted after the battle and that's where i think bb comes and wants to finish shanks off. Shanks will be killed infront of luffy, luffy tries to fight but is too exhausted then bb starts beating luffy so badly he's on the edge of his life just like last time bb will take luffy's power claiming it to be his and he has gained the power of all 3 of the strongest fruit the strlngest zoan, paramecia, logia. After bb beats luffy up and leaves law will arrive and will sacrifice himself to do the immortal thing to save luffy's life and that's my theory

It makes sense as an octopus is one of the most intelligent animals, and the head of Vegapunk bears a resemblance to the head of the octopus. I love this theory, but I'd like to point out the boring answer to the "why have three pistols" question - black powder pistols take a long time to reload, to the point where it's not worth doing at all during a fight. In battle, it's much faster to just drop your pistol and draw another pre-loaded gun. Real life pirates did this all the time during the Age of Sail. Man, cartridge ammunition really did change everything.

Pistols were one shot, and not exactly conducive to reloading mid combat. I believe that may be the inspiration, but also, I think the recurring “3” symbolism surrounding Teach is definitely intentional and pointing us at something.

In regards to Blackbeards backstory remember in the Dressrossa arc we saw a flashback of Doflamingo's great-grandfather as a shadowy figure him and Marshall do look alike so I think Marshall is a member of the Donquixote Noble family and given Teach's thirst for knowledge and the recent connections made between the Holy Knights and the 9 Unknown Men which kept books of secret important knowledge so I believe Marshall grew up around the holy knights reading these books as one of his parents was a knight.
