Love the Shootout!...Got mine the first day the were released directly from Benchmade. Carry it everyday NO issues. It has the greatest blade of any OTF'S on the market period!...It's about time we get an OTF knife 🗡 that is thin behind the EDGE!...Love the Shootout!

I own 2 otf knives, the guardian tactical recon-035 and an microtech ultratech and they both have a bit of rattle to them. Otf knives aren't my favorite but are definitely a good knife for certain situations. I really like that shootout from BM and might give it a try, but would get the glass breaker delete from ocd4edc if I did. The tanto and the thin blade stock that comes down to such a thin cutting edge is what interests me most about that knife. Thanks for showing us, it's so much more helpful than some pics from retailers.

Very good review. As a side note I picked this one and a hogue exploit after learning they were legal to carry in our area. They both rattled. I went back to the store and looked at another exploit, it also rattled. I like the shootout, but I agree with you on the button. The exploits is much lower profile and works fine. Last side note, OCD for EDC makes a replacement part for the glass breaker. Hope you keep up the great reviews!

I have a legit benchmade shootout and I have no rattle😂😂😂 you might have a fake my guy.. I check multiple at the store and they didn’t rattle sooo you might have a fake my guy or a dud… send it in to benchmade 😂😂😂

@@lancasteredc7773I check multiple. They rattled (when open). If you got one that doesn’t, they changed it or you lucked out. I thought deadlock is still the only one with 0 rattle.

Yeah if you find a Shootout that doesn't rattle and has a good edge, it's probably MORE likely it's a counterfeit than a real BM 🤣🤣🤣

Everybody treats the Bailout like their slow cousin, but Benchmade puts that blade in a plastic OTF and all of a sudden it's the greatest thing ever. The knife community is amazing. Not singling you, of course, or even really talking about you. Just a general observation. It is a great blade though. My M4 Bailout is one of my most used knives.

I owned a Bailout for a little while. I think I sold it before I got around to making any videos with it. Really unfortunate because that was a really good knife. Solid ergos and like this knife the blade was phenomenal. I think I have a few posts on my insta about though. I agree though, not enough Bailout love... Thanks for watching 🙏

WTF are you talking about? The Bailout is awesome too. OTF tanto is legendary status and a light weight package you can't go wrong with a Shootout.

I think you may have misinterpreted what we were both saying here. We both agree in our comments that the Bailout is a good knife. I've never really said much negative about it. The only annoying thing is the silly pommel/glass breaker thing b

Well there was problems with the heat treat on the 3v on the original bailout they all also come with that stupid pommel so it had issues in its original form. The aluminum and M4 is an amazing combination but you still have to buy an aftermarket backspacer to get rid of the useless "pommel" so in its furthur iterations it's a great blade but you still need to buy an aftermarket backspacer so it's still not a perfect blade from the manufacturer.

I have a few otfs and I really like this one it’s so light and my aluminum versions have snail trails all over them I don’t have to worry about it on this one you are right the blade is awesome and I’m waiting on the glass breaker delete piece right now. Oh and it’s so light great edc knife . I also opened it up and tightened the screw and it rattles a lot less

Well considering the knife was built with first responders and military in mind the glass break makes perfect sense.

Was it really built for first responders and military? I've never personally seen that advertisement, but I guess that's just the standard "Black Class" schtick that BM promotes? At any rate, anyone working in a field where they need to actually break glass SHOULD have a dedicated and purpose built glass breaking tool As a side note, I feel like an OTF would be a really bad choice for military or first responder. Too prone to failure in the mechanism, especially in wet or dirty environments.

@NocturneKnives , That's because you grossly underestimate this knifes capabilities. The Shootout OTF was designed with law enforcement and tactical personnel in mind, a perfect weak-hand backup for anyone concerned with gross-motor deployment under stress.

Yeah sure I suppose that's a good point ... Until the mechanism gets wet or gunked up. I feel like a manual or out the side would just be a better option. But perhaps I'm wrong, I would defer to an expert on the topic.

What tests exactly have you seen it go through? Stabbing into hard objects and twisting are one thing. What about when the mechanism is filled with water, mud, sand, dirt, etc?

Yes it is plastic. Advantage is it's light, but it does not feel premium. It's not very thin and definitely not slick though.

I read the rattling and also play when the blade is extended is to ensure more successful deployment. Any thoughts?

It's a result of needing to have some slop to ensure the blade can easily deploy, yes. The higher quality the OTF the less rattling it should have due to tighter tolerances and higher machining quality.

@@NocturneKnives yea i think it's just the nature of the beast with them. We see any shake in the fit and finish we think it's cheap but all the benchmades I've tested rattled to some degree when fully deployed. There was definitely play. Even the Hogue tanto exploit I have moves a bit more than I'd like but eh. Just comes with it and I'm not spending 1000 on one that doesn't play a little Unless you know of some that don't lol

Everything except for the Hawk Deadlock has blade play. I just felt that this one rattled more than others I have felt, and more than I expected

Which models in particular? I've handled a lot of OTFs at this point and I've never encountered one without play. Sure, some have much less than others, but not none. Other than the Deadlock. And I've heard the same experience from everyone I've ever heard talk about okay in OTFs

Well, and here's a crazy idea, some people can have different experiences than you! It doesn't mean you are wrong, and it doesn't mean we are wrong. We have simply seen things you haven't. That's fine. I'm glad to hear you got a good one, and have seen other good ones. I know this is a legit one, and the other gentleman, if he saw multiple in a legit store, knows he handled some legit ones. Side note: I have yet to actually see a fake Shootout.
