Maria as bloodbornes pick is so based That fight transcends just “good quality boss” for me. It’s a masterclass in game design. There isn’t a single move with a bad hitbox, not a single move that has no telegraph, no 50 hit combos with 0 gaps to attack. The fact that the arena is perfect too is amazing, you can’t get stuck in anything like you can with Ludwig’s or orphans arena (the rocks and whatnot). It is imo the best duel fromsoft had ever made, there isn’t a single hint of unfairness in the entire fight. Fighting her without parrying is one of the most exhilarating experiences in a souls game.

The only problem I have with Maria is her phase 3 Like the fire trail mechanic its cool in paper but it just makes it so obnoxious to fight Its just RNG with just baiting her attacks until she does the long telegraphed one Which just makes it so annoying to deal with Specially in a challenge run Well atleast you get to hear more of the amazing 3rd phase OST

first time I fought slave knight gael he literally had a pixel of hp left, I then lost in embarrassing fashion over 20 times not coming even close to killing him and at the time I was upset that I couldn't kill him first try but looking back at it, those fights were so fun, recognizing patterns, adjusting my time and spacing, and changing my load out, slave knight gael is the perfect souls boss

Bing bong your opinion is wrong (about Messmer) he is clearly far inferior to bosses like Melania, Malekith Mog and Bail. The thing that Messmer lacks which the former bosses have is optional, high skill punish windows. in the case of Malekith there are many punish windows which require proper positioning such as getting underneath him for his overhead strikes, or running around his anima ball. in the case of Melania punishes require proper timing, such as when she jumps around and dose a spinning attack, there is a punish, after her feet touch the ground but before she starts her next attack, which will make her flinch, protecting you from her next attack, or you can role around her slash and get in a punish just before the third attack hits, flinching her before she can hit you. in the case of bail there are several punishes that only work with role pokes, and require the correct positioning before (but i forgot what they r). in the case of mog jumping attacks will low profile many of his attacks, and you can walk around him for the explosion. I also like the complexity of the blood flame. This mechanical complexity is something that Messmer lacks. you just role, then he stopes and you hit him, then you role some more. whilst he is a good boss, his moves are satisfying to doge and he is a good sceptical, he is not as good as people are saying.

(Glaze warning) Imo midra is the best boss in Elden ring. He reminds me more of a ds3 boss instead of moving sporadically and having super fast and flashy moves (not as much in second half). The music is also by far one of if not the best boss theme in the game. The way he floats towards you with some combos, and literally uses his own bones as weapons is just peak boss for me. The whole build up to the fight is probably the best in the game too. You had a whole area as a warning, and a dungeon filled with illusory walls and other tricks to set the mood for the fight, and midra definitely delivered.
