Now THIS is a gem of a find, and I would have gladly paid the Backstage Pass fee to see this episode of Nitro! Bret is in great spirits here and was obviously having a good time--hilarious! This is even better than the famous Okerlund interview the Hitman gave about not doubting El Dandy. It disgusts me, though, to hear WCW staff disrespecting--actually, burying--their own lucha libre cruiserweights. Those guys were a significant part of what made Nitro so enjoyable during its peak years. Furthermore, Bret Hart never kids around about respecting the wrestling ability of another performer, and he has a great legacy of working outstanding matches with guys who were smaller than him (1-2-3 Kid, Jinsei Shinzaki/Hakushi, and Billy Kidman and Saturn, eventually). Bret could've had amazing matches with Eddie Guerrero (WHY did this never happen???), Chris Jericho (in his heyday), Rey Mysterio, Jr., Psicosis, and, yes, even El Dandy.

@@user2176 I feel your pain, Mick! Bret and Eddie worked for the same wrestling promotion for a couple of years, so there's no excuse for their not working together, especially since Malenko got a shot at the "Hitman" (and legitimately injured him through carelessness in the ring, which is mind-boggling). But this is WCW we're talking about. The higher ups never had a clue what to do with Bret or anybody else, frankly. Anyway, I'm in total agreement with you that Bret Hart and Eddie Guerrero could have put on a clinic for the ages. Eddie is one of the handful of wrestlers whose technical polish/crispness was in or near the same league as "The Excellence of Execution." Another dream opponent Bret never faced is The Great Muta (Keiji Mutoh). Just writing their names on the card would've produced five stars. LOL! VERY frustrating that these matches never happened, among so many others . . .

@@ArnoldArchives Another guy that he did actually get to wrestle was Fit Finley. After they stuck Bret on Thunder and seemed to try to bury him, he still would have great matched. I thought one guu who he could have had a great feud with would have been Finley. Both very physical, same size, 2nd generation and both had fathers that ran local promotions. Well, they had one match, was good but way too short, no feud/ story or reason why they were wrestling each other. On top of that the guys calling the match talked about Goldberg and Hogan the whole time, like Bret and Finley were irrelavant. 2 of the best technical guys ever and interesting characters/ history and nothing, no story or promotion, just another wcw one- off match to be discarded with the rest of them. Another plain example of wcw dropping the ball, but at least we got to see Goldberg run through all their talent aimlessly and end peoples careers early.

Rey exposed the business no matter who he faced. He should have won the midget championship or something.

MrSinister718 Hold on, this is a “chicken or egg” thing. Did Rey expose the business or did Lucha itself - once brought to a mainstream audience through WCW expose the business?

BRET is so underrated on promos...😂

Was this before or after his "El Dandy" promo with Mean Gene. I know that Bret meant it as a joke, but they should have had a match. El Dandy never got a title shot. He lost the WCW US Title to Roddy Piper. When Bret beat The Miz for the WWE US Title in 2010, I was hoping that WWE was going to bring El Dandy back for a title shot. That never happened either.

that would have been great but too obscure. Not many people remember the el dandy thing

hezamachine , you can tell this is after the Mean Gene version. Bret is trying to match the original.

I don't think he meant it as a joke. I think it was his tounge in cheek way of mocking the WCW for burying their own wrestlers and shitting all over the cruiserweight division.

Once again why Bret Hart was the Best, because no matter what championship he wore he wanted 2 give every wrestler a title shot, i dont ever remember Bret ducking a challenge from anyone through out his Career# Bret Hart truly The best there is, the best there was & the best there ever will be.

Who are you to doubt El Dandy? He's a ring technician and a jam up guy. 💯
