We know that some of the difference between success and failure in dating comes down to having the right sort of chat up lines. Here is a selection of some of the finest, most effective ones we know. However, crucially, these aren't lines you say to a prospective partner; these are lines you need to say to yourself.

So many people in the comment section are just reinforcing the point of the video... The video is not saying you can get any girl you want with this simple trick. It's saying that before you have any chance with someone else, you should give yourself a chance, because why would someone else accept you for who you are if you can not even accept yourself.

For me the people I always fall for are people who are passionate about something, no matter what it is. The more they love what they talk about, the more attractive this makes them in my eyes. Every single person is interesting in their own way and while we cannot make it work with anyone, being who you are and talking about things you love, is a great way to connect to other people.

"The most attractive people are often the most ignored". That kinda hit home. I've been told plenty of times that I'm handsome (sorry for the lack of modesty), had a fair amount of women interested throughout my life and yet, somehow, my love life is lacking... in consequence I've low self-esteem and often feel lonely...
@enyazogd5325
@enyazogd5325 3 жыл бұрын
If you connect with a girl, REASSURE her that you are interested in HER only and you are not going to let any other woman come in the way so long as your relationship stays intact, as this is often the fear in women about attractive men, that they cannot possibly "compete for him".

Thank you for commenting. I relate to this. I’ve done some repair work over the last few years around linking my self esteem to other people. I’ve been in and out of romantic relationships and have taken from all of them the importance of knowing what I love and value and setting that above all else. I share this to say that, like inspiration IMHO, romantic love often feels like a fraction of what’s available to me when I’m feeling centered and grounded. I think I might someday want to share my life with someone but for now, I’m enjoying what I used to call loneliness.

most people who find out I've been single my whole life are very surprised to hear it, exclaiming that I'm "such a pretty girl" or "just like a model", and so that line about never being approached resonated highly with me. It is, in fact, why I find myself chasing others more than anyone has ever chased me and its a big relief when people do approach me.

Working out is the answer. I used to be a skinny single guy like you, i spent 9 months counting calories and doing calisthenics and I'm a stud now. Find a good barber, get rid of any acne (I literally only drink water now and my skin is near flawless), tidy up your eyebrows, find good fitting, simple clothes, not those shitty baggy hoodies you use to hide your twig-like body. Trust me I was the same way all throughout high school. All the strategies you think work to seem less small just make it more apparent. You do know a basic human *need* is social interaction. Yes i admit there is no need for an overemphasis on romantic love because platonic love is just as valid but it is wilfully ignorant of human nature to reject social interaction or love as necessary. This is such a great channel. I honestly feel really bad for those people who feel poorly about themselves. I did too for a long time, but most of that was caused by severe anxiety problems that just totally destroyed the way I felt, viewed myself and the world. Self love is so fucking important and it's so horrible that anyone truly believes that don't deserve love or don't love themselves. That doesn't mean you won't be critical or dislike some things you do, but underneath that you know you're a good person, with good intentions who deserves love and respect. I was taught these things growing up and my parents did an excellent job teaching us self respect without being overly self centered. But sadly, I too lost my way. I became driven by reaching for an absolutely absurd and impossible standard of who I think I should be. I was filled with horrific and life crippling anxiety for many many years. Recently, in the past couple of years most of that faded away as I became more mentally healthy and clear headed and realized what I unintentionally was doing to myself. Unfortunately, we live in a time and society where everyone is always telling us what to think and how to feel, that we can feel pulled into others ideals of morality and how we should live, instead of taking time to discover what feels right for us and when we do make mistakes, to forgive, learn from them and move on. Obviously its not always easy, but with time it becomes easier. I think living in a world that's a little more understanding, kinder and forgiving would help make loving ourselves just a little easier. That's why I think it's really important to take time for yourself and not overly worry about finding a partner. Be a little selfish, take time for you, do things you enjoy and give your body and mind rest. Then, when you do find someone, you should be in a better place to make connections and not force things, because ultimately you shouldn't want someone who doesn't want you and if you feel like you're constantly having to try and not getting anything back, then that's probably not the right person for you. It doesn't mean being nasty or resentful for being "rejected", but just a realization that you don't need to waste your time and energy.

I suppose its a common enough issue but geez do you ever put videos and essays out at exactly the right moment for us. Im asking a girl out today that i like and this kicked my ass into no fear mode. Yes i have faults, yes im somewhat fearful/apprehensive but im sure, for the most part, the person you ask out feels the same. Thank you School of Life you are my teacher and confidante! Wish me luck and perseverance

7:11 7) That can certainly be true. My girlfriend rarely got approached; but I was in a nightclub once, years ago, and a couple of blokes who were much better looking than me were admiring her, and said that we should all forget it, as she wouldn't go out with any of us. They didn't even try to chat her up.

I have always had a weak spot when it comes to the fear of rejection. I've gotten better about it now, but when I was younger and had an even bigger need to not care if I was rejected, I just couldn't bring myself to risk rejection, almost at all. I always went with a sure thing. I went after girls that I knew for certain liked me, usually because of their friends telling me. I probably missed out on a lot of chances with girls who I thought were out of my league because I was too afraid of rejection to ask those girls out.

the thing is, so many people nowadays (at least young people; and that's my dating pool) have zero manners and are often disrespectful to the point of visciousness. It's just not nice to be rejected in a fashion like you're a piece of dirt on their shoes.

This is absolutely beautiful. Definitely one of my favourite videos of School of Life! I was thinking that the title of the video is rather strange for a School of Life. Like, it wouldn't be weird for us to tell honest and direct words to our loved ones. But the idea that there are certain words that would work well with ALL STRANGERS sounds impossible. So, when the video quickly changes to lines we should speak to ourselves, I couldn't help but smile. Yes! Relationships with people are good but the most important thing is the relationship we have with ourselves. :')

Hello is a good start. Make an observation about the person or place you are and comment on it to the person your interested in. They will have to speak to you. Or not. It's amazing how many people are ready to talk to someone new all it takes is a start. Lots of us a shy. as I got older I've been able to start a conversation with strangers without effort. I wish I had this ability when I was younger. It's a gift. Say hello👌👌👌👌

Faulty Premise - Chat up lines shouldn't even be a thing. By definition, they are contrived, insincere and nothing but a means to an end. Just *engage with someone in an authentic and honest way.* That's it. Learn to accept rejection too... that always help in life generally.

I think that is what the video was about in the first place. That if you let go of the idea that you are not worth it, you don't have to be afraid to simply have a genuine interaction.

It seems like you have an issue with language rather than concept. Whether you’d prefer to call it a “chat up” or “genuine engage” both are a means to the same end. Namely, to get the attention of the person you are interested in (romantically). I would submit to you that you wouldn’t be as “genuinely engaged” in someone you are not attracted to ...enough to generate a conversation from nothing (so is it genuine if you’re only talking to that person cause you like their appearance?). So while authenticity may be an approach that works for you, it is just a subcategory of chatting someone up. One of many that achieve the same thing (i.e. generate conversation and interest). The video was merely addressing the perspective with which we ought to think about the matter.

Danny B you don’t have to master small talk, but you do have to be interested in something that you think is worth sharing... you say hi, then you share... she will like it and add to the convo or she’ll bail.. either way it’s a win for you for overcoming approach anxiety..
