How do you keep the chickens warm in the winter? I want an all-around coop, not just summer proof. I'm saying this because I like this coop a lot, but I wonder if this will also keep my chickens warm in December?

Sorry to say that there are several instances on Raccoons reaching into large openings like that and pulling the bird's head out and killing it - horribly. You should put hardwire mesh over the outside of those runs.

This video made me think of my Dad and Mother, they are from Mississippi. If they were still living I would purchase enough land for us to live on it and farm. My Dad built us a chicken coup when I was a child with scrap wood from his job and chicken wire after my Mother fell in the snow chasing a dog after our chickens in the city. It held up for years after getting rid of chickens due to a neighbor reporting us...

I live in an urban neighborhood, 5 miles from a State Capital. If I put this in my backyard with chickens in it, the local raccoons would reach through those openings to grab a bird and bite the heads off. Rats and squirrels would squeeze between the panel connections and eat all the food. Young possums would be able to make off with any eggs as they squeeze through behind rats and squirrels. Foxes could slither under it and feast on my girls. The only use is to keep dogs and coyotes at bay. If I had this in my backyard, I'd be up nights with my angle grinder and a roll of hardware cloth struggling to make it predator-safe. I long for an out-of-the-box solution, one that can be reconfigured as needed for broody pens, sick animals, ever-changing flock sizes, and all the things we need a portable cage to do. I'd even love something like this to secure my container plants from the ravages of birds and squirrels. But this product is not even close. Sorry.

I have two of them end to end - LOVE THEM!!!! I have a had a few issues. Mainly now small birds and Bio-Security. Wrapped them in chicken wire and the birds still come through the chicken wire itself. Beyond that - so far - so good. One got damaged in transit (Shipping) TSC did assist in that matter. They are a great investment. Wish they were made with a Hardware Cloth type heavy duty still like the base of the coop they have - and the coop in the run triple protection for the ladies.

We bought one of these a few months ago and so far we are as enthusiastic as you are. I'm worried about weasel and mink. We've seen a couple mink in the area. I'm not sure where you are, do you have those types of predators? I was thinking of lining ours with 1/2 in wire mesh, but that's a bit of a job, if it is not necessary. Thanks for your work!

Cool as a fan. Video was worth it for that alone. After building a mobile wood coop and run that's pretty heavy I wonder how much better off I'd have been trying this first. The one issue I see for areas with weasel population are the gaps, a weasel will be in there with no resistance.

If you have raccoons in your area I recommend adding smaller wire ( like hardware cloth) at each end of the roosts. Raccoons reach through and grab a chicken then pull a foot or head through and start eating. We also have put solid metal (or wood) up about 2 feet at the bottom. This keeps the wind from blowing through at the ground level so keeps warmer and makes it chick safe. Our cages are similar construction and started life as heavy dog kennels. Great cages. We often use them to raise meat bird chicks or move a setting mama in and let them hatch their babies and keep them safe the first weeks.
