Good video -- easy to understand. We also want to add a toilet flow vàlve and hook to water line. Also adding a scrap copper pipe inside tank helps kill bacteria.

This is perfect!!! Every system I’ve seen people making is very nice, but they wouldn’t handle my heat issue. As a matter of fact, some were to keep water from freezing and I don’t have that issue. With this system I can throw blocks of ice in it to keep cool. We don’t have water close to the coop location, so carrying water every day several times a day because it got too hot was gonna be inconvenient, to say the least. Thank you for sharing, specially the parts used. Takes the guesswork out of it for me. Much appreciated video! 🙏🏻

Thanks for the video Pete. I have really enjoyed watching you set up your chickens. Anyone who says your not good to your chickens is just trolling you. Great idea using the cooler as a reservoir for watering. Should be pretty short step to set up a float valve and a hose to completely automate the system should you decide. Anyway great system, great design and execution.

Pete real nice. I have round igloo the I put 6 nipple drinkers like yours around the bottom. I suspend the entire cooler from the run ceiling and they can drink as they please. Always clean, cool and no mold or mildew. it has worked very well for me and the chicks. I know the nipples are the best. My chicks learned as babies how to use them and once in a while I give them water in a bowl out in the run, sometimes with Apple cider vinegar in it. They love that. I try to give them the Apple Cider vinegar once a week for sure. I like your set up too!

Yes, Pete THE BEST CHICKEN WATERING SYSTEM You are right on the dime.. I have something similar to your system but I use a 2 gallon jug It keeps water fresh (decent temperature) I don’t understand how people keep water in a 200 gallon container or in a PVC pipe partially exposed to the sun and they said I LOVE MY CHICKENS, GIRLS, BABYS ECT.. Pete , you could put a rain gutter along the edge of the coop roof with a tube running from the gutter to your cooler. When it rains it will automatically fill the cooler. I'll suggest that you use a float valve to keep from overfilling the cooler. Unless of course you like carrying water. Me , I'm too old to be carrying water.

I don't think the chickens don't understand how to use it (I started a bunch on water nipples when they were wee chicks). I'm positive they simply don't like using it. They love dipping their beaks into water even if it's a puddle or a hollow in a tree root. They love when I rub their beaks clean with my fingers too. Why? Dunno, but they do! Your homestead is a beautiful piece of peace 😊

Great idea on the cooler! I've used a 5 gal bucket direct install of horizontal nipples for 5 years & always kept it in shade - works great. The water condensation helps keep it cool enough for Ohio in shade, but I think I love your idea better if it has to sit outside...especially hot climates like TX. You can use an aquarium bulkhead instead of a drain. You can glue directly to PVC and they should be cheaper. Any aquarium specialty store should have them. So will amazon and eBay. The box stores probably won’t have them.

Nice design. Thanks for the video. couple questions: This was made almost two years ago... Do you still use it? how has it held up? and finally, whats your method of cleaning it? @petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading 5 жыл бұрын
Ken Poe Algae should not grow because the water is in the dark. As far as freezing, you could rap the tube and pipe with an electric type blanket and insulation. I grew up in Michigan and been through -20 temps and -60 wind chills and your better off putting the water containers in the coop with electric warmer in the water.

Clearly you went to a lot of work here - I'm sure your birds appreciate it! How well did it work out - now four years later? I'm getting into birds and want to design a reservoir system I can use in extreme heat (like this) as well as heat the reservoir (and likely circulate the water, so will add a return) to make it function in winter. All controllable by thermostats - easy.
