Hi, Ive always loved beer. From European travel and being middle class. I don't have any hipster mates from London to talk to about beer. My friends always thought I was a snob for refusing there beers and banging on about the good beers they could be drinking. Thanks for making me feel at home.

Very cool video flick. I am not a fan of IPA's. Here in Texas there are literally hundreds of craft brewed ales and IPA's. They run the gamut of undrinkable to crappy but tolerable. Going to Prague craft ales and IPA's would be the last thing I think about. Were I in Prague, the number one joint I'd hit is U Flecku as recommended by Michael Jackson in his book "The World Guide to Beer". I was smitten with Czech lagers after that book back in the 70's. To this day my two favorite lagers are Czech. Pilsner Urquell and Budvar. I also have a love for German lagers as well but if I could only drink 2 lagers for the rest of my life they would be the aforementioned Czech lagers. Mahalo y'all!

Great video! This really makes me miss back to Prague, where I went before the corona pandemic every year. There you will find new breweries and beers every time. Czech lagers are superb and famous of course, but one thing that cannot be praise too much is the Czech IPA's. The Czech malt base gives them their own feel and even the Double IPA's are very drinkable, smooth and tasty. The best beers and breweries not featured in this video are Chroust Helena Double IPA, Matuska Tropical Rocket, Matuska Hellcat Imperial IPA, Clock No Idols Double / Triple Ipa, Zichovec 17 Simcoe, Bad Flash, Lucky Bastard etc..By the way Maly/Velky where you visited is one few Czech shops supplying beers throughout the EU. So it is possible for you to order beer from small breweries in the Czech Republic as well.

Spent a week in Prague in September , right before the lockdown, so happy I did that. City was empty. Charles bridge was empty, crazy. Gave me the opportunity to visit districts of Vinohrady and Zizkow, so great for pubs and beer. Uneticky was being offered everywhere, same with Vinohrady pivo. 2 great pale lagers. Lokal pub has many new spots, beer is always spot on and food is different at each location, Grandmas food. Also great matuska pub in Karlin district, fresh craft beer and a big patio.Pub is Dva Kohouti (2 cocks,lol)

@@77Fortran It makes difference how you handle the beer, how you tap it, how you store it. You have to keep oxygen away from it. And the atmosphere of the pub is important as well. great video as always, Czech Rep is still on my to do beer list but first must come Belgium, I live in Bayern so no need for any more Augustiner(its shit). Done a lot of other countries including Russia but Czech has such a rich history. Sorry off topic.. On my way home tonight I was drinking a collab with Yeastie Boys and Lervig (IPA with green tea) and I was thinking just which industries do major players get together to produce something which may or may not be better than the core products each sell, I am in love with the concept and there really have been some amazing beers produced (still waiting for the follow up Gin n Tonic beer from whats brewing) but can you imagine Samsung and Apple saying.. hey lets just for fun work together and make a one off smart phone which takes all the cool stuff from both of us to make something better. Why can breweries put aside the whole concept of competitive competition but not others.. make beer not war :-)
@TheCraftBeerChannel5 жыл бұрын
Well this is a deep question! But it boils down to the fact that if Apple/Samsung did it, they would have to share profits (so get less) and technology (which they fiercely guard). Breweries do it to share information and technique, because the industry is still in a phase of "rising tides float all ships" and most brewers know each other so it's fun. However, the main reason breweries do collabs is because it is brilliant marketing for them. They ride on each other's coat tails when trying to break into a market - they get their name out without risking a lot of beer going unsold and stale. You can see in the States that collaboration is getting more and more uncommon, and also some breweries turning on each other as it moves into the net phase of growth and competition. It's a tricky time for a growing artisan industry and I really hope they keep their friendly, collaborative attitude overall.

Love Czech, love Prague. Question for the channel, what were the beer halls like in communist times? What was the beer like also?
@maxpayne96963 жыл бұрын
Hey mate. As a Prague bartender, I can say that few of featured places (Lokál, U sumavy, U Fleků) are made to remember the "old times". Back in the days the pubs were full of cigarette smoke and chatter. There was not that big selection like is now (which is the best thing...) and that's pretty much it. I like how the CBS guys are excited about the staff bringing another beer without asking for it - that's pretty natural. Those Czech lagers are drinkable af and you don't want to see the sad empty glass on your table. Hit me next time when you come to Prague - I'll invite you for some classics and craft around the town (and show you the AUTHENTIC pubs which are still there since the mentioned era...).

I think the list is great but I would definitely add at least two places: Zlý časy in Nusle district, which was one of the first craft beer places in Prague, it is a three-storey pub with different selection of beers on each floor. It has also very different atmosphere and setting than you would expect in typical hip craft beer place. The second place I would recommend is newly opened pub Dva Kohouti in Karlin district, which is the first pub run by probably the best Czech craft brewery Matuška. It’s also interesting concept because it is simultaneously a pub and brewery in the same setting an the design of the place is very technical and interesting.
