I actually have a perfect vegan buttermilk recipe for this! (3 tablespoons buttermilk (or unsweetened soy milk + lemon juice), 2 tablespoons vegan mayo, 1.5 teaspoons olive oil, 1 teaspoon minced shallot, salt and pepper) I also use this with butter lettuce salads - so good

Grapeseed oil is better. It's made for frying. It's a healthier option rather😊 that's just my opinion..

Just tried this recipe. Added lawry’s to the seasonings. More Smoked paprika and more cayenne it tasted like Wendy’s spicy chicken nuggets.

I agree about freezing it! First time I tried freezing I was shocked at the change in texture! Sooo much better! And I’ve been eating tofu most of my life!

Wow my first time freezing tofu. Definitely a game changer. I was amazed. I made patties and baked them since I don't have an Air Fryer. Will make it again. Thanks for the recipe.

@@xduwu5172 Tomorrow marks month 5 and I can only “taste” sweet salty and bitter but other than that nothing. It’s more of a feeling than a taste, If that makes sense. I can smell a tiny bit but everything smells the exact same - like old celery lol.

If you use chickpea or pumpkin seed based tofu you can do top 8 free! It can be hard to find though, and homemade tends to be quite soft

If you make these and have leftovers, please don’t throw them out because they’re soggy! Reheat them in the oven for 10 minutes at 350 to crisp them back up and they’re as good as new if not better! This is one of my non-vegan husband’s favorite meals.

OK . I am so glad I saw this before jumping right in. I need to put my tofu in the freezer and I didn't know that. Maybe I'll order a tofu press too. Should be here tomorrow.

Looks yummers. Will the freezing method work with any brand of tofu?? As long as it is extra firm tofu?

lad simmms If you can find Medium tofu, that will give the closest texture to chicken after freezing and thawing twice. Check out Mary's Test Kitchen best vegan fried chicken. It's insane. I can only find Medium-firm near me, but it's much closer to chicken than the firm or extra firm I've used. It's definitely my favorite of these three. I also soak it in strong vegan chicken broth like she does and they are so flavorful. I use Better Than Bouillon no chicken, it's my favorite.

@@MakeItDairyFree Yes, she is. Omg I had a hard time too. I went to or called every store near me and was only able to find the Medium-firm at just one store - an Asian store called H-Mart. I don't even know if just Medium exists? I wonder if you can order it from Instacart or something? It really makes a big difference in the texture, I hope you can find it!

Hey loved the recipe, i just have a quick question though. What is italian seasoning? Not american so I don’t know, is it just a mix of herbs like basil etc or is there other spices as well?

It’s usually oregano, parsley, rosemary, basil, and thyme. Just dried herbs

It would depends on the expiration date on the tofu package, unless you mean freezer. in that case 2-3 months

Could you all try and experiment with chickpea tofu (Burmese tofu)? I used to love crispy chicken but I don’t do soy. I believe in you! I know you can find a solution for me! Also, no vital wheat gluten please

Minimum of 30 minutes, especially using a tofu press. Sometimes if we have time I'll just throw the block in the press in the morning and then come back to it when time to make dinner

Dairy free milk + an acid (vinegar or lemon juice) will create a texture similar to buttermilk
