Random question of the day: are you more of a morning person or night owl? We are mostly morning people but mexico is slowing turning us into night owls. That and it's too hot in Merida to eat dinner before 8pm 😂

My very first trip to Merida was scheduled around Sunday because I read Magic Made in Mexico by Joanna van der Gracht de Rosado and she talked it up. I didn't know anything about Merida then and it seemed all so foreign. Now I do biciruta every week and once per month at night! Funny how things turn out. There's so many free things to do in Merida that everyone no matter their income can participate. Free music festivals, weekly dancing, two free movies per day at the Olimpo theater on the Plaza grande, free museums, tours etc... the list goes on forever. The biciruta is definitely fun. We ride to the best cochinita, eat breakfast than ride back and do the biciruta. Halfway through we stop at our favorite cafe and cool down. All for 20 pesos per person to rent the bicycle. Crazy town.

We just got back from Merida on Saturday. Your right about the round-about. My wife was always nervous driving due to them. But, overall traffic always kept moving. Merida is a beautiful city filled with friendly people. we are excited to come back and visit again. Here is a hint: Make sure to visit a Eladios Restaurants. You will get endless appetizers/ Snacks when ordering a drink. Or the Silcer Beach Club in Progresso on a off Cruise ship day. Enjoy your visit.

Since the end of the 90s Mérida's downtown is mostly a ghost town, a place only to go to work or a hub for bus routes. It seems like a citywide siesta because most people have moved to the northern side of the city where the newest developments, shopping malls, hospitals and best schools are located. When people refer to the high quality of living in Yucatán and its economic growth, it often refers to those parts of the city. Mérida is mainly a city to settle down, study at one of its universities, open a business or to retire.

@sacrebarbo6 жыл бұрын
The mythical safety of Mérida is real, but not in all areas of the city. There are a lot of unfriendly places, but at the same time (and as unreal as may sound) way after midnight you can see people without any concern for their safety in middle-class neighborhoods: dating, walking the dog, playing some sport, using free internet available in public parks for do homework or just chasing pokemons with their smarphones. It's all about location. Although it's very unlikely that something bad will happen to you while you live in Mérida, it's not impossible. In Mérida there are no kidnappings or shootings, but burglary is an issue. It has never happened to me; but unfortunately it has happened to some of my acquaintances. Therefore, you must take precautions and protect your home, thieves take advantage of the opportunity when they notice that nobody is home. I personally believe that the key to enjoying the perks of the safest city in the country is to never let your guard down. The weather is extreme, but regular and very predictable. The city has its own pacing governed by climate, which is hot and humid most of the year, with heavy rains and mosquitoes in summer. Unsuited for outdoor activities until late afternoon, which is when parks, sport fields and shopping malls are crowded and full of activity and fun. Even though we're separated from the rest of the country we have a functional road system. We have flights to Mexico's main cities and some flights to international destinations. We're far from being a piece of heaven on earth, in spite of that I have noticed a significant increase in foreign residents over the years, both from other states of Mexico and from other countries. I think it's not just a trend and maybe they find some benefit that compensates for the inconvenience of the weather or geography. Whatever the reason, everyone is welcome!
