Super underrated discussion about metagame vs winner/top cut metagame. I think this would be great for a seperate video, potentially even a live stream live discussion with some other folks. The current metagame graph imo feels really good to see so much variety in top cut even if ruby amethyst is taking the lead still.

RA is just the most forgiving deck out there right now. It's extremely linear and it has even more options with Inklands. It also allows players to make multiple mistakes and still come out with a win.
@eddiegloria96716 ай бұрын
What ive seen with other tcgs is a breakdown of top cut placing ie "how many times does X deck hit 1st/2nd/3rd specifically" rater than just "top 8" in general. U might see a big drop off of RubyAmethyst if u did a list of JUST first place decks, for example. So it would be a good breakdown to add to ur videos - top 8 rep PLUS top 4 break downs, PLUS 1st/2nd place breakdowns.

The problem is a lot of these don’t necessarily go past top 8 cut. They split the prize pool and run
@TKE2286 ай бұрын
@@316AJH I guess that's +1 point for the new 2 game format
@eddiegloria96716 ай бұрын
@@316AJH i bet that wont be much of a problem when u actually start parsing out a lot of the data. bc even if it happens, ur still only talking about top cut, so u dont need that giant of a sample size, as long as u get consistent sample sizes.

feels steel saph struggles with aggro , needs robin sherwood swords turn 3 to kill curse merfolk, lilo etc, and it lacks the removal options that superior ruby saph provides. What's better ? Ramping into a turn 4 Giant Tinkerbell or a beast and hope for a draw , Ping for 1, OR Drop Be Prepared Turn 4 followed up with Medusa/Tremaines and smash locations with easy Mauis? Currently 12-0 at my lorcana league yet to drop a game with R/A , its Just too good at everything. OH and I played Amethyst-Steel midrange for the first 2 weeks of inklands, Jafar was always Trash .But i dropped it since I couldn't seem to win out vs Ruby-Sapph, Mcduck manor and removal was way too much for it.

I think B/S needs a lot of practice to be a successful deck. Online player tend to grind more as paper players. This might be a reason for it’s lack of success offline.

Ruby Amber has been my fav since chapter 1; it only gets better and better a combo. I have no clue why the player base seems to naturally recoil from considering it unless it’s showing out. Everyone just has a Control meta brain and needs to widen their perspective.

Have to agree with the others that sapphire steel being an extremely high skill deck. tied for 1st at a small win a box tournament a two weeks ago. You also need to check your opponents discard after wheels and late in the game. Keeping track of what threats are being inked is also key. The play lines change greatly depending on what you can expect from your opponent. It is a highly reactive deck which can be tough to get right if you aren't familiar with how the matchup can/should go. not a really a deck you can just netdeck and play the way RP can be done

Lol right?! 😂 RA is SSSSOOOOO linear. It's so boring to play against.

I have played a ton of Sapphire Steel. And it is tough. Really, what's hurting me is Steel Song, especially bare necessities. And also Zeus. I didn't lose a single game last chapter against it. But now it's very even. It's good when it plays right. 2 Cogsworth down is a win. Getting that ink and winning late game. It just seems a lot harder to get those win conditions. And I have run so many versions this Chapter. And always end up frustrated. And that includes paper.

The best decks list you’re showing seem different than what’s winning in tournaments on Mushu Report. There’s far less R/A in top 8s.

I utilize inkdecks and I assure you they’re all there lol. I don’t use mushu for anything sorry.

The reason Blue Steel is more present for online is that it costs $0 to play it, so more players can run it without the $500 price in paper. I’d also say that no computer can truly randomize, so Pixelborn may create a better than average opening hand for certain decks. I’ve definitely noticed that I get Pawpsicle in opening hand on Pixelborn way more often than I get when playing in paper.

I'm so glad I thought positively about Hydra. Having the same stats as Maui to help deal with Locations is great but being able to punish your opponent for taking out Hydra in challenges by dealing the same damage back makes Hydra a threat when he's on the field. Makes him a great mufasa target due to that. It's even is a solid tech check to Steel decks. I think it might have a place outside of mufasa roulette.

i think the best reason to play R/A is that everything else is really expensive... you want 4 beast ok almost 200 you want robin hood too ? thats another 150 ....

I have been playing emerald since set 1, haven't been to any big tournaments though. I'd say it's biggest thing is the inconsistencies. If it doesn't get it's early game going, it's almost a guaranteed lost. But it's super fun to play and have a few ways you can play it.

I took my blue steel to 9th place this weekend an the Great Lakes gaming 1k. Made a mistake in one round that cost me the top 8. Great deck... like you said... tons of decisions. I think the main reason it's not ran as much IRL is that it's expensive and has alot of harder to get chapter 1 cards plus Sad beast... mine runs Hades too.

I just got a top 4(split) in a 20 person 1k with sapphire steel. I found it to be super fun to play in person but I do think it is a high skill deck with lots of options and important mulligan decisions that a more casual player would struggle with.

With sapphire steel, I do feel like it’s one of those decks that has a very high skill ceiling. I think it’s easier to map out your turns online than in person, especially when you’re constantly worried about how and what you’re going to ramp with out of your hand. And the interactions have a bit more finesse than just throwing down a Maui, Tremaine, Medusa, or board wipe
@Xoulrath_6 ай бұрын
This. Mostly lol. I don't know that I agree that it's easier to map out your plays online versus in paper. It certainly could be for some people. I'd wager that it has more to do with time issues because there are a lot of lines. It isn't as simple as turn 5 Maui, turn 6 Tremaine/Medusa, turn 7 Be Prepared. Online play gives people more time to think, whether that's a good or bad thing. I quit a lot of matches because my opponent basically ends up roping in games that I'm winning. I don't think all of the players are doing it intentionally; I think that most of them are trying to figure out what they can do with all of the cards in hand and lines available. It's for that same reason that I auto quit against AWNW: my opponent will have no cards in hand, I've got control of the board, they top deck AWNW, and then I've got to wait 5 minutes for them to go through their fresh new hand of cards. So yeah, I'm gonna lean towards Sapphire/Steel being a harder deck to play, with a lot of lines that create time issues in paper.

@@Xoulrath_ just speaking as someone who really only plays with friends, it gets tough when fishbone is on the field and you’ve got like 9+ ink to know if you’ve inked for turn or just have used fishbone and such
@Xoulrath_6 ай бұрын
@@nuckatnite6925 yeah, that's understandable, but that really is the player's responsibility. To a lesser extent, it's really the opponent's responsibility as well. I'm going to be making sure that my opponent doesn't make a display there because an extra Ink that they shouldn't have could be the difference between me winning and losing. I'm also not a fan of Ravensburger and their policy about not being able to write down what your opponent has I'm hand when you see those cards with The Bare Necessities for example. The same goes for not being able to write down what your opponent inked away, or with regards to being able to look at your ink stack. I'm not trying to play Memory here; I'm trying to play what can be a highly skilled card game that has numerous decision points based on a number of variables, cards being played and inked among those variables. Online play allows for these things to be tracked, if one so chooses to do that. But that's more of me ranting about a system that I disagree with. Either way, yes, SS is considerably harder to play than the yawn inducing RA.

Ya I played sapphire steel in person at a small 8 person tournament and I can say piloting it irl is rough I started using dice on top of my deck and my inkwell to keep track of if I inked or drew because it was getting hectic. Also the time constraints are rough like if you play the 2 game format it is way more forgiving with time than if you would go to a 3rd game. Also I learned to do my ready phase during my opponents turn to speed things up because keeping 16 ink straight and neat is hell.
