Haven’t had much luck with calls. I still use the bleet can here and there. The other day at last shooting light I heard some deer hanging around my bait site but not coming in. I think they wait for darkness. I gave em a bleet and a big doe came in to investigate, so I guess it did work. I found the best thing to do is try to keep does around my bait pile and use them for buck bait. I’m gonna try some tinks 69 today. Well see.

I don’t use calls or rattle. I use scents & that’s about it.

So for my second season of using crossbow - I decided to try using calls. I got a can call and used it a bit with grunt tube. Even tried rattling a bit when I hunted first week of November but had no luck blind calling. I did get one buck to circle me when I tried calling him in range, but eventually left when he got down wind of me.

Tinks with a bleat call. Had to different bucks come down towards me from having tinks all around me like Dad always showed me. Grunts work well to during the rut. Try rattling at first light or even right before sun comes up. I enjoy your videos as well!

One extinguisher call and a set of their black rak antlers and I can call in anything. Snort-wheeze is hilarious for spooking little bucks you don't want to shoot and it's great for taunting big bucks but only if you have your timing right and you know its the biggest buck on the property. I usually rattle first, then do a few hot doe calls, then a few buck grunts. Sometimes I will throw in a tending grunt or two to really sell the scenario. My moms second buck came in on a string to that right to our blind at about 40 feet. She had a rifle and blew his heart in half. I was so proud of her!!

@@Deathbybunjie any advice for how close you can set up a blind to a feeding station? I'm not comfortable shooting at 30+ yards. I set the blind up initially at the aforementioned yardage and left it for the week. Trail camera reveals the deer didn't even care, with little buck and one hulking beast enjoying a late night shindig of sparring barely 4 hours after setting up. Yes, I scent sprayed everything in that blind AND the blind) I go to sit in the blind this morning, no deer there so I didn't spook anyone. wind came up from behind and saw nothing for 4 hours. also realized the shooting lane available is no good. Found a better spot about 15 yards closer so I'm around 20+ yards but I worry that's too close for the big bruiser buck rolling through. Advice?

@diaryofagoat-lass1023 set up where your shots are in your comfort zone 100% and ideally exactly 20 yards so there's no guessing distances is what I'd say. If deer have a problem with it oh well, better than a bad shot in my book.

@@Deathbybunjie Thank you. I sat there yesterday after leaving the blind in it's new spot for a few days and they didn't mind, though were very suspicious. a long as I didn't move, they couldn't see me. Sadly it was that darn south wind coming up by 10 that messed things up. even with every single layer scent sprayed AND the blind+chairs+blankets. :P they never snorted at me or stamped their feet so I'm assuming I'm wearing enough and yes, it's black inside the blind so I wear black. My dad thinks it's too close but I would be nervous taking a shot at 30 because my scope (while brand new) is still a little temperamental. It's perfect at 20 yards but 30 and the shot veers off. clearly need more practice and to get more use to the kick. :P (and we all know archery is a game of inches) Dad thinks I'll need to settle for a spiker but he keeps forgetting I nailed 2 Saskatchewan trophy bucks in my first and 4th years respectively. (rifle but still) I am still hopeful that bruiser will come back. :)

I use the extinguisher deer call as you can adjust between fawn to buck and anything in between. I normally use the doe call early season and the buck grunt late season around November on. Called numerous bucks in with this call in November on and doe in early season.

I’ve had a lot of deer respond to my calls and come walking right to my stand over the years! And sometimes they stop look in my direction and completely ignore me. But I’ve never had a call spook a deer.

I have had success with Hunters specialty true talker. Using soft grunts. The primos original can.

I use HS NO BULL. A very deep and powerful dominant buck grunt. I also use a Phelps Alpha And the only variable call that I use is the extinguisher I’ve had very little to no luck does calls & fawn bleats including the can call. After I’m in my stand or blind, I always give a couple of light grunts The alpha and the extinguisher are both good on those very calm quiet days but the HS cut through the wind and woods sounds like nothing I’ve ever seen before. If the rut is on, I will start with the HS to see if I can anger & lure out any big buck in the area. I definitely grunt more during the rut but any other time of the season it’s just random light occasional grunts As for rattling, I do have the small round one as well as one like yours, but when I go out and prep my stands, I hang my rattling antlers in the tree before season starts so they are already there. Then I let them down with my pole rope so that I can jerk the rope around a little bit and make them clatter, but I can also get them down into the leaves for the rustling sound Everyone has their own preference and technique and I’m sure that you’ll see a lot of variables

I have a primo roar, I don’t think they make them anymore. I use it during the prerut & rut. 2 short grunts close together with a pause than one more short grunt. If I’m blind calling I might do that in multiple directions.

I always have deer come in when using the Primos Doe Estrus bleat call. Especially during the pre rut and rut. It’s definitely not recommended when you are near a deer. They will pinpoint your location.

I use the extinguisher, but I used to have one of those flex tone calls, the one day I was just being stupid and pressing the buttons and making all sorts of sounds to my surprise a doe Jumped out into the field edge about 20 yards away from me to see what was going on

Extinguisher call Year around do bleats and fawn. Bucks during rut and pre rut
@one-eyedarcher4 күн бұрын
A couple things I have figured out over the years... a buck can pinpoint where a call comes from. If you call and they can see where the call comes from and there is no deer there they will not come in. A decoy and a grunt call is lethal. I've killed a bunch of deer this way. My buck last year left my sight and I grunted and he came back out staring at the ground below my stand. Luckily I was able to get him before he left. This year I grunted mine in because I had my blind set up on a corner that he couldn’t see around so he came to investigate. Calls can work!

Hey Bungie, how often are you typically shooting your swat x1? I have had some terrible luck with my string derailing after no more than 30 shots. Have you experienced similar behavior, and if so, what did you do to remedy the problem? Love the videos!

I don't count shots but way more than 30...make sure newest strings and cables (I only had issues with the original set, did some videos on that)

I'm only in my 3rd hunting season. In my limited expierence, I have only ever had sucess with the can doe bleat. I have the same nextone grunt rich has in the video. The only deer reaction I've ever had off it was from bucks I already see. It has never brought in a deer where I make a "blind call". The can has brought in several young deer, does, and I've taken 2 bucks that came in to the can. I still try grunting occasionally in hopes to build some confidence with it, but usually it stays tucked away until I see buck. But really, what do I know? lol

Nothing to do with the video, but I know you're a fan of killer instinct crossbows. I bought a lethal 405, works perfectly, recently I noticed the right limb splintering, not bad just slightly. What do you recommend? I shoot all together over 500 grains. I don't expect you to comment back, none of the you tubers do anymore. Love the videos!

I had several wonderful experiences but one that stands out was purely “accidental” on purpose. I was headed into my stand and as sometimes happens, I trip and fall hard In the thickets, 20 feet from my ladder, breaking dead branches and my confidence. I make several loud grunt calls, climb into my stand, tip my doe can and throw a couple more grunts in there. Next thing I hear, a car 200 yards up on the road locks up its brakes. Hmmm? Then I hear crashing coming down my way through the alders and whippets. I shoulder my 30-06 just in time to see a nice 21 inch inside spread 8 point standing broadside at 50 yards. He was a FIGHTER. Both ears were freshly torn. He lost that fight. 196# vs 150 grain 30-06 was no match 😂
