Very good editing. No blah blah blah, right to the point. How many times I've seen 30min how to videos that could've been explained in a third of the time.

This is a rabbit hole you may never get out of. I am on many versions of pond hockey zamboni. latest version uses a carry all and pallet as a platform. Load a 50 gallon water tank, sureflow pump to pump water into an on demand camper style hot water heater. A tank of propane and 12v power runs it from my 1025r. Spreads out the back with pvc plumbing and towel. Instant hot water and nice finish. Now i am working on shaving the ice. Need something on the bucket??? That’s this weekends project.

Do you think 50F would be sufficient? if so I can use my propane tankless with 1.2GPM pump and not have to fill a 30gal tank

Pretty slick! Looks like it'll work fine. As a kid we used to help the school works clean the ice with metal snow pusher shovels. Then flood the rink after closing time so it could freeze through the night.

Great idea!! The only thing you need now, is a PA system, with someone talking about ticket prices for upcoming games and a couple of Bud Light stickers on your DIY Zamboni😃

Great job. Looks like a lot of fun. There's some magical line between where you live and where I live. Most of us south of that line have no idea how to ice skate. Most of you north of that line are great at it!

Good job on the DIY zamboni. The multiple layers of thin ice is a good approach to keep things simple. Now all you need is some paint for the ice hockey lines and face off circles and you can start hosting the neighbourhood hockey league.

Hi again. I am so proud of you to construct that ZAMBONI. I recall my Dad made rinks in northern Quebec for us kids to use that was over 60 years ago... Yup you guessed it he was at the time a fire fighter..... used 2 large sprays from a pumper truck, then the home made zamboni....... Your right it was -20 most days between Nov 15th to end of march..... It was great. Hockey skating kids and grown ups too. Keep up your good work with your gang. Its worth every moment.

Great job! My uncle made something similar to that 40+ years ago out of copper pipe and a burlap sack. It worked great then and they still work great today. Too bad you don't have access to hot water. That would smooth it out in a hurry. Anyone doing this for a backyard rink that can run hot water from the house you'll get better results quicker.

To get a great smooth finish on your ice you need hot water so that it melts the rough spots and skate cuts back into the old ice and creating new ice together. put a tank on your sxs and fill with hot water then hook up your manual zamboni drag. New subscriber and i enjoy your channel

Adam cool diy idea. One thing I would do to make it better would be to add a good quality metal ball valve. That way u can control the flow better but all in all great idea. Keep up the good videos

Yeah I agree. I kept having to turn the flow on and off by unplugging the pump from the generator. Definitely need a shut off on the zamboni

If you're using a heat gun to bend the pipe, shoot the hot air through the pipe. When the whole pipe is hot, it's extremely easy to bend and manipulate how you want. I do that often with the grey electrical plastic conduit.

I had a similar idea for my water pump. I didnt want to run a submersible pump to my pond, but I plan on (Next year) running a Milwaukee 18v battery pump to move water. we have 10" ice on our pond and this Zamboni would have worked well before the last few melts, and my failed attempt to clear 6" of snow off it. Also, Great idea on the ice picks!!

I made my 'rink rake' as a T rather than having to bend the pipe. Works well and the caps on the end of the T keep it off the ice nicely. You want to go next level, be like my neighbor and flood it with warm water. Wasteful but the best ice you'll ever skate on outside.

Adam what a great fun project! I was wondering if you could fill an IBC tote tank with water and use that instead of a pump. Could you put the tank on your side by side and just drive around with it?
@HometownAcres3 жыл бұрын
Only problem with that is the weight. I mean right now we have 7” of solid ice right now but that would make me a little nervous. And early on in the skating season you’ve only got 4-5” of ice
@alkaufmann20393 жыл бұрын
@@HometownAcres I was thinking the same thing but was wondering how deep your pond is. I have seen ice fisherman out on lakes with full size vehicles. I am sure there are calculations as to weight and ice thickness. I am only suggesting but you could fill your tote one quarter and start with that but it would probably make me nervous too lol.

I've wondered what would happen if there was a pump with a 1" hose. Seems like that would melt the snow and find its average level making a smooth surface. Would your pump support that experiment?

Cool idea, looks to be doing what u want it to do. But man, that ice isnt very thick and the water under the ice does hold the ice up, I think you might be better off with an external source of water. Just worried making a hollow under the thin ice could make for an unsafe condition, wouldnt wanna see any friends or loved ones in a life and death situation. Best wishes.
@HometownAcres3 жыл бұрын
That ice is 7” thick
@noyopacific3 жыл бұрын
If I understand what you meant DMW Greywolf, pumping water from under the ice does not create a hollow area. The ice floats on the surface of the pond. It the water level were to drop or rise the ice would float up or down. This can sometimes cause cracking along the shoreline as a result of the movement. Another huge factor in building thick ice is removing any insulating layer of snow. When cold air comes in contact with bare ice it will thicken up much faster than when the ice is covered with snow. Thanks for the video Adam!
