Rapier for the fighters to start, then save your money till pirate town, then buy a sh. Sword. Save like crazy and buy a silver sword asap and give to a fighter, saves so much time early on, red mages can use the silver sword too. Fire vs creeps, ice vs ogre, lit vs sharks etc. take the ship to first town to use that inn. Go to dwarven cave to get some early chests and cash.

@@dantack_atger Great tips! I always forget about the dwarf cave.

Don't forget about the ruins where you fought Garland, there's two swords in there that sell for a good bit of cash after you get the Mystic Key which will give you a chunk of money towards that Steel/Knight's Armor in Melmond. They're not as good as the Silver/Mythril swords you've been using, and in the NES version, the properties they were supposed to have don't function so it's OK to just sell them.

This game originally came with a thick manual that listed a lot of these early items to help you shop. I'd recommend a strat guide if you are playing the OG. The newer versions fixed shopping with some quality of life things like telling you who can equip the items before you buy and if they're better than what you got now.

@@thedigodragon Oh wow. I somehow have no memory of the manual. I think a qr code to it is included in the NES classic edition. I'll have to check on that.

I still have that manual... albeit NOT in great condition... What can I say, it was heavily used.

Thanks for watching my video. Do you think this stuff is worth the price? What other pricey things should I be preparing for?

If playing og version, having your item list topped off is always a good idea if your equipment is in order. Starting with the marsh cave you want plenty of healing and antidote.

Dragon Warrior was my intro into RPGs. I was 12 when Nintendo Power offered it as a free gift. My mother got that deal for me for Christmas. That being said, Dragon Warrior is quite basic even by FF1 standards. Though it does a few mechanics better. Try it out!

I didn't know about that gift. That's neat. The Dragon Quest/Warrior series has so many games as well. Maybe I'll take a look at it in the future.

my first RPG was Ultima: Exodus. I can't remember if I played FF1 or DW1 first. I hated DW2 though... but DW3 and DW4 were great!

@@Angelalex242 I usually go for red mages, but I wanted something different this run. Some even say Monks are better than Fighters. I need to try them out next time.
