The Best Electric Bargain | 2018 Kia Soul EV Full Tour & Review

As we continue to feature EVs on TestDrive, we take a visit to Mega Kia Brossard for their Kia Soul EV event to test drive this full-electric subcompact crossover SUV.
The Kia Soul is a very unique vehicle in Kia's lineup, mostly for it's design and look, but also for being the only current EV in their lineup until the 2019 Kia Niro EV hits the market later in 2019. We had a chance to drive a fully loaded Soul EV to see what makes this such a popular seller here in Québec, and what kind of range you can expect from a vehicle like this.
This 2018 Kia Soul EV is configured with the Luxury + Sunroof trim, and available only in this titanium silver paint colour. Exterior features include a backup camera, power folding mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, and HID headlights with fog lamps. Inside we find synthetic leather to keep with that Eco spirit, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, power windows and doors, that large panoramic sunroof, Kia's excellent infotainment system, and EV-focused gauges and cluster information.
While this Snapshot is quick, we do get a chance to drive around with the Soul EV to see how it handles and performs during a typical daily drive. We're hoping to be able to feature more electric vehicles on this show!

Great video! One correction: the 2018 Soul EV has a 30 kWh battery. 27 kWh was on a previous model.

Is that up from the 2017 model? Unfortunately Kia's Canadian press website only has the media kit for the 2017 model year where we pulled all this data from, so if it's new for 2018 we're definitely glad you pointed it out! Hopefully Kia will update their docs for journalists.

Yes: 2017 was 27 kWh, 2018 is 30 kWh. I originally got the 30 kWh from the brochure available from the Kia UK web site, but this page compares the two: www.thecarconnection.com/cars/kia_soul-ev

My 2007 infinity m35x was hit and the rental they gave me was a Kia soul it wasn't bad neat little car not to say I'd buy one but it was neat zip around town car

They're certainly not for everyone, that's true. But they are popular, and it's grown it's own little enthusiast community around them which we think is great.

I bought the 2016 EV+ used in 2020 and it is the best car I have ever owned. Just a pleasure to drive. Smooth, quiet and zippy (below about 45 mph). I would highly recommend it. I would LOVE to get the 2020 or later version (with more than twice as much range) but sadly it is not sold in the US anymore.

Not too bad! Prices on these have fluctuated quite a bit over the past couple years but they're nice little EVs if you're looking to save on fuel and don't have a large commute.

We've got a few more booked, we're just hoping we can partner with one of the charging station suppliers out here so we can actually charge them at the studio. Even something like this we'd have to leave plugged in over night just to get a full charge.
