A useful description. Built in range estimation is always a bit of guess. Not that I run an EV (yet) - mine's a hybrid, but at higher speeds the wind direction & speed usually have a major effect - e.g. opposite directions on something like the M4. Particularly the case for that one, as it’s not that good at higher speeds on account of the body structure. It’s aerodynamic drag is not nice compared to something like a T Prius, e.g. Not a problem around town etc, but not ideal for higher speed runs.

Very useful thank you...can you please expain how the 12v battery is charged...I presume there is no alternator...so question...the electricity comes from the traction battery? If so why the saving on the heating of seats and sterring wheel?
@GoGreenAutos3 жыл бұрын
The 12V battery is charged from an on-board DC-DC converter which uses the traction battery to charge the 12V battery while you're driving. Heated seats and heated steering wheels uses less energy than heating the whole car with hot air, so its more efficient to heat the driver's contact points and it really works too. only issue with using regen braking is that the brake discs dont get used much and become pitted with rust. So, you dont replace the pads but need to replace the discs, which are naturally more expensive. There must be another solution to eek out the life of both... perhaps to switch off regen brakig for one journey per week or maybe to select a regen level that means that you do need to use the brakes to some extent.

I am looking to buy my first ev. I'm thinking 2016 Nissan leaf or 2016 Kia Soul. The more I look..the more unsure I become. Any thoughts, opinions would be greatly appreciated. I have to make a decision soon.
@GoGreenAutos3 жыл бұрын
The Soul is a better vehicle than the Leaf. Better battery life as they have proper battery cooling.

I am going through the same decision soon. Let me know which one you went with and how its going for you.

so if your in full regeneration mode and you take your foot off the brakes, do the brake lights still illuminate ?
@GoGreenAutos3 жыл бұрын
On all EVs, the brakes lights come on at a certain level of deceleration as standard and that is regardless if you touch the brake pedal.
