Ohh I had one of these in a classic over the board game without time trouble involved. My opponent was two clean pawns ahead and blundered a mate in one. His king was on g3, my rook cut the second rank and my bishop delivered checkmate from e1. Unsurprisingly he was not interested in analysing the game afterwards...

he tricked him with the temptation of getting a queen. Its the time pressure that makes this special. Nothing to special about that otherwise. If they would have still 15 min On this level this is a huge blunder from Kovalev
@logand39572 жыл бұрын
That’s what makes it exciting at the GM level though. The fact that blunders like this can happen in the first place and you need to sync up your strategy with quick pattern recognition. Less so in rapid than bullet, but still

0:18 Yeah, definitely should've taken e7. Bishop takes Bishop on e7, check, King retaliates and takes Bishop. But then what? The new Queen is dead on arrival, and then it's equal parties, 1 King, a Rook and 4 pawns each.
@NYKevin1002 жыл бұрын
Stockfish says that White is completely winning after Rb7+, because from that position, the White king can eventually make it to b8, while Black's rook is paralyzed on the a file and unable to effectively block the White king's movement.
@Games_and_Music2 жыл бұрын
@@NYKevin100 That's right, i got stuck because i wanted to promote the Pawn to Queen too soon, just like Kovalev, haha I also saw some commenters say that black's Pawns were placed much more favorably, as in, black would've won eventually. So i got a bit lost in the scenarios at some point. I kept thinking, the white Rook is stuck, because i would put it at b7 and check King again, but sitting next to the Pawn kinda ruins the Rook's mobility to block the black Rook, and moving the Pawn now would leave it open to be taken by the black Rook. So both the white Pawn and Rook are fixed into place by the black Rook. But instead of seeing it as a downside, it goes both ways, the black Rook is indeed also paralyzed, which gives the white King the opportunity to start moving. So, i guess the Rook vs Rook stalemate in favor of white is the advantage that white has and will give him the win.
