I don’t know man, that is a really classy axe. I am in agreement with the idea of removing the big plaque. I really like having his signature phrase on the truss rod cover. I have to admire him keeping it so simple, it really demands the most from a player to get a variety of tones. I’m glad it’s an Epiphone as well, because that keeps it in my price range.

Yeah I I got the epiphone Muse SG and it's a wonderful guitar. It's got so much variety in tone because you split the humbuckers into single coils and have the 3 positions like that along with the 3 regular ones positions that are standard with the 3 humbuckers on an SG. But also you can then put the pickups out of phase and then have 3 different positions with that too. So you have 9 basic tones you can use. And then you can do everything else with the Gibson style layout of knobs that gives you essentially dozens of different tones. Because on les pauls and SGs I always like to do the thing of setting it to the middle position to have both humbuckers on, but have the volume of the bridge pickup set to like 2 or 3. Then, essentially, you get the lovely warmth of the neck pickup but with just a touch of the sharp treble from the bridge pickup on low volume. It just makes a wonderful tone for blues. But then on the Muse SGs and LPs, you can have 3 different versions of that too You could spend years messing around with it and its tone (and I have; you could say that it's my... muse...)

I'm still diggin' my Old Glory. Removed the plaque, and smoothed up the rough fret edges. Absolutely love the chunky neck carve, resonance, and low, low action. I will probably keep it for a long time, even though I also have a R8, DGT etc. It just has *mojo*.

If Jared does another signature guitar, I'd love to see an Epiphone version of the red Les Paul he plays with the cream p90s. (Edit) It's Old Red. It kind of makes me think of a gold top Les Paul that's been played in smokey bars for 60 years and aged to a nasty amber color. Big fan of Jared though. I wouldn't mind seeing some lefties in the future. I don't have a Les Paul, and these would be a great opportunity to add one to my collection.

So I just bought my Gold Glory JJN / Epi 5 hrs ago.... and I CAN'T STOP playing it !! It's so fun and easy to play. Really an inspiring guitar.... I'm a Luthier so first thing I did was intonate the bridge. Which although it is the fixed lightning bolt style there are 2 little hex bolts on it that allow you to move the entire bridge back a bit. So now it intonates perfectly. 2nd thing I did was shim up the pickup 1/4" with foam under the pickup. Now the pickup is where it needs to be. The Seymour Duncan pickup sounds great... no need to upgrade to a Lollar etc. Tuners are are not my fav style...but they stay in tune great..no slipping.. so need to upgrade them either. Electronics are good... I may change out the capacitor to my vintage Vitamin Q .018mf cap. All in all though, this guitar RULES !!! No need to upgrade anything really. It is ready to rock outta the box. I've been playing guitar for 45 years and have owned 100's of guitars and built too many to count and honestly this guitar is awesome ! This is now my second favorite single pickup guitar... next to my 68' Gibson SG junior w/ 1 P-90. Congrats Jared James and Epi on a great design and inspiring this old player and inspiring the next generation of players too !

I was drooling over this guitar for months! My local shop got one it and I was very disappointed in the finish. Mostly in the finish to binding, there is a nasty edge. So I decided to walk away from it. If it had a full gloss finish over the binding I would be 100% in love. Other than the finish gripe it is an amazing guitar!
@hkguitar19843 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I believe with the poly finishes they tape-off the binding where as with Lacquer they scrape the binding before applying a clear top coat. I’d have one of these if they were lacquer finish. I’ve an old 1986 Custom Ordered LP Custom that has aged beautifully in the 20+ years I’ve owned it. Considering how great my lacquer guitars look as they’ve aged I stopped buying poly finished guitars back in 2000 and am glad I did.

I got mine and I love it. If JJN had asked me what I would change I would say this. Because this is what I changed. A 1956 LP Custom had gold hardware. I replaced the bridge and tuners with gold. A 1956 LP Custom had gold top hat knobs and not black reflector dome knobs. I replaced them. A 1956 LP Custom had cream pickup covers. I replaced it. A 1956 LP Custom did not have a matte finish. I polished it. This is a great playing and sounding guitar regardless of what it looks like. I have 2 dozen high end Gibsons. I've owned the new Epi Slash, Laz, and 1959 LPs. I sold them, but kept the JJN Gold Glory. It is now a great playing guitar and a great looking guitar. Too bad YT doesn't allow posting of images.

Honestly, I'm not really a Gold Top fan at all - they always struck me as too plain, and I have never had much interest in single pick-up guitars either - just turn off the neck pup on your Standard. Notwithstanding, I happen to have played a new Gold Glory at the encouragement of my local music shop as they know I just love fat baseball necks. Well, let me tell you, I was thoroughly impressed by the finish, build quality, and in particular this Seymour Duncan P-90 sound and tone/volume range. I am a really hard sell on these issues, trust me. This is certainly not your average Epiphone Les Paul model in terms of finish and tone control quality. I was so genuinely impressed, it came home with me. 😲 The ebony fretboard really sealed it for me in the end. I just love playing this beautiful instrument and the thick neck is just heaven. Well done Jared and Epiphone, a truly impressive instrument by any standard. My first gold top ever. My first single pick-up guitar ever. Who'd have thunk it? 🙂

Thank you for the very informative review! One question: did the fact that the new gold glory has a graph tech nut, as opposed to the plastic nut in the old glory, lead to any noticeable tonal improvements. Furthermore, in the review of the old glory, you talked about having the plastic nut exchanged for something better. Did you have that exchange done on your old glory guitar?

Were you using headphones and if you were, were they connected to the audio output on the device? If so maybe around that point in the video the wire got jostled a bit. Worn out or cheap headphone wires that go into audio jacks (as opposed to lightening or usb connectors) are notoriously bad at causing all the foreground audio to drop out usually leaving background and reverb sounding audio. Usually a second jostling of the audio cable brings back the full sound. I wonder if this is what happened. Just a thought.

The one thing I would like to see on the single pickup Les Paul guitars is a standard Epiphone or Gibson bridge, the “lightning bridge” is what almost always was what low budget guitars came equipped with. I also think it would be awesome to have piezoelectric saddles built into the bridge for acoustic electric sounds and another set of volume/tone knobs, especially since it is already routed for them. The paint job looks great and at times looks orange depending upon how the light hits it. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! 😎☀️

I love this guitar! I have Gibson Custom Shop '57' Gold Top with a single humbucker...I think I need this Epiphone too!

I saw JJN in Wichita with John 5 just before the pandemic hit. He is a top notch musician for sure. I need to get me one of those goldies. 🔥
