John Galliano's first show for dior in '97 comes to mind. The tribal themes and the elegance were so striking it's burned into my psyche. There was a lot of pressure on him to succeed and he did it flawlessly. Also the rise of NY designers such as Todd Oldham, Isaac Mizrahi, and Anna Sui

it's just a galliano show. he refrained from doing those for 10 years while he was in margiela jail, and then he came back swinging. but, yeah, it had a lot of margiela in it, and it was beautiful. but i think a good part of the effect comes from the fact that we don't have haute couture creators anymore. he might be the last one.

Not a huge galliano Stan here but his FW 1994 „Sao schlumberger show“ collection comes to mind. It’s typical galliano romanticism, glamour and a mix of various historical, cultural influences but it stands out as one of the most cohesive, well tailored and original (the two latter points being frequent grounds for complaints among critics and clients at the time regarding some of his other collections). I think this show is an amazing example of how to do theatricality and storytelling. Besides this show probably saved his career and the whole backstory is a beautiful example of collaboration between some of fashion‘s most influential people all believing in and supporting galliano.
