The return of Chef Andrew!👨🍳 About every family on Pine Ridge had fry bread included in at least one meal. My great aunt used to add cinnamon to her dough and it was really tasty. 😊 Good video and good cause 👍

@@SaintAndrewTV Here's something of interest. Diabetes is a real problem on the rez. Mostly due to poor diet and heredity. But in my great aunt's family, and their descendents, it's almost nonexistent. She seasoned things with cinnamon, and I thought it was just something she did. However, a few years ago I ended up in the I.C.U. from a brutal diabetic incident. Was on insulin and numerous meds. I'm terrified of needles. I looked for something to eliminate all that. Altered my diet. Loads of vitamins and minerals. And cinnamon. Lots of it! And today no meds or needles. Research proved cinnamon to be a great controller for carbs and overall metabolism levels. And here I thought my great aunt Lucille was just an interesting cook. Turns out she was a dietary whiz! 😉

@@anangryranger I do know that health is a big concern in the different nations. Dietary is a big one. Specifically why I want to give back! I didn’t know all that about cinnamon! I’ll have to look more into the health benefits of it! Can never be too healthy right? Side note: does Cinnamon Toast Crunch count? Lol

We sometimes get frybread when we go up to four corners and I always wondered about it. It seems strange to have a traditional Native American food made with flour. Thank you for clearing up the mystery for me and we may be trying this sometime soon. We like it with honey.

Dear SaintAndrey, Was this also known as the trail of tears?. How long do you fry per side?
@SaintAndrewTV4 ай бұрын
The Trail Of Tears started back in the East in the 1830’s and went to the 1850’s. But same idea from the US government with the displacement and inhumane treatment of indigenous peoples. I got a really good color on high heat at around two minutes per side.

If quarter them they’ll cook better and be easier to handle in the hot oil. P.S. that is also an old hillbilly recipe… probably shown to them by a poor country boy as a way to use the government rations. it’s similar to confederate sloosh except sloosh is rolled into a dough snake and wrapped around a rifle ramrod & cooked over a campfire.
