Hi Doc, how about red dragon fruit/pitahaya? How about avocado? Thanks
@pickledrick5158
@pickledrick5158 4 жыл бұрын
Best fruit for diabetics are probably avocados. All the other sweet stuff will spike BG very high as they are composed of simple sugars. The glycemic index was tested on non diabetics with phase 1 insulin response. If I eat whole grains or even fiber rich fruits about 15g my BG will raise by nearly 140 mg/dl. I ate 6 large strawberries and my BG was 211 after being 86 prior, within 20 mins.
@SugarMDs
@SugarMDs 4 жыл бұрын
That depends on your insulin resistance. I can eat 2 kg of strawberries and my sugar won’t spike. Or another diabetic may eat twice more than you and it may spike to only 140. So it depends on the patient. There are 6 billion in the words and there there 6 billion different bodies. Not one of them are the same.
@pickledrick5158
@pickledrick5158 4 жыл бұрын
@@SugarMDs I don't think it is insulin resistance per say, one unit of Humalog insulin drops my glucose nearly 60 mg/dl, R insulin about 25 mg/dl. I associated it with glucose intolerance that all diabetics have. Those values were without insulin. Generally if I eat 30g of carbs regardless of type slow or fast I need 4 u of Humalog insulin. I been a type 1 for 22 years and by now I can safely assume my beta cells no longer exist. The glucose tolerance test on me will probably raise my BG to over 1000 mg/dl. I tend to test some carbs option without insulin a small portion 1 carb serving and any number over 200 mg/dl is not appropriate. I have yet to find a slow carbohydrate that does not spike me to over 200 for the postpartdial period without insulin. The main difference for slow and fast carbs is that insulin can match the absorbion of glucose of slow carbs and prevent huge spikes, we do not have a current insulin that can match fast acting carbs spikes insulin is always behind. Even human insulin sometimes fares poorly against fast carbs non diabetics can see huge spikes followed by step drops. Reason why people that eat high carb food feels hungry shortly after a meal associsted with the hyperglycemia and subsequent step drop in glucose. Hypoglycemia is a trigger for hunger.

@@pickledrick5158 have you tried normal rolled oats in small quantities without adding those poison like milk/sugar and those high sugar fruits in it? Try to have oats like half a cup cooked with water. And salt and see how you get on, is hypoglycaemia same as being diabetic then? I mean if someone I’d have hypoglycaemia here and there after eating very sugary drinks especially sweeteners or high sweet fruits does it mean they are fully diabetic or not? Thanks

Any fruit is good as long as you portion it to the amount you need and count the carbs,eventually you remember the carb counts. The only tiime it seems from testing is if I am allergic to a food such as Mellon's which cause seizures and really spike the glucose. Everything I'm allergic to spikes,and Coco Cola(probably drank it to clear allergies).I just eliminate what spiked,and beans;just put salt and pepper on them,avoid the sauces which often have allergens in them. Just test what does it.

Raspberries and strawberries seem to be kinder on blood sugars especially if you eat them over a few hours and not devour a whole punnet at once which will always give me a BG spike. These berries are higher in fibre and other nutrients which is fine as long as you don’t eat a lot of them in a short space of time.

How long after eating do you check BG?
@lucieni
@lucieni 2 жыл бұрын
@@Nourriturecosmetics Since March 21 I use Dexcom G6 so I only have to open the app on my phone to see where I’m at and where I’m going. Back in the day I used to finger prick 2 hours after eating but using a BG sensor I’ve found I usually peak after 1.5 hours if it’s a carby but low fat meal. Adding fat to the meal really slows the metabolism of carbs so you get a very slow rise that usually doesn’t go in to dangerous territory but you stay slightly higher for longer. I hope this makes sense and thank you for your question. Please don’t hesitate to contact me again to clarify. x

@@lucieni Best diet for diabetics, low carb high protein with associated fat! The cholesterol myth is being phased out as new research shows no correlation with cardiovascular disease. The only lipids that hurts people per the research are Triglycerides, LDL but not all of it just oxidized LDL and Glycated LDL both caused by high carb diets with elevated blood sugar. BTW insulin is required for protein diets as your body will covert amino acids to glucose via gluconeogenesis. But the spike is so low and long that regular R insulin deals with it no need for rapid acting insulin. Dr. Bernstein talks about it in depth I suggest you listen to it. A 87 year old diabetic with no complications even reverse advanced kidney disease with normal BG. Also funny enough cholesterol levels decrease with normal fat intake, carbs are the culprit of cardiovascular damage.

You talk about a banana on top of your cereal. Why would Type 2 even EAT Cereal? 👎

SugarMDs I’m U.K. and love a Kellogg’s product called ‘All bran’. Even though it’s high in fibre it still spikes my BG even though I use the least amount of low carb milk. T1 sucks. So boring and I’m so over it yet my Pancreas says otherwise.

@@lucieni Unless it's insoluble fiber or true all bran it will spike your glucose. Fairly slow but you can count by the end of 2 hours you will be well above 300 mg/dl or about 16.7 mmol/L. As a T1D I do eat more than 10g of carb per meal slow or fast makes no difference at the end. Your insulin will respond better to slow as even Humalog the strongest and fastest insulin aside from Fiasp cannot match the carbohydrate peak. If you have time watch Dr. Richard K Bernstein on KZbin, he has a channel design for diabetics and he answers questions regarding diet, insulin, exercise and complications. I follow his plan strictly and my average blood glucose nearly all day is 89 mg/dl or about 4.9 mmol/L. My last HbA1c was 4.8 a non diabetic range. My highest glucose record in 3 months was 176 mg/dl (9.9 mmol/L) my lowest was 58 mg/dl (3.2 mmol/L). All T1D are entitled to a long healthy life with normal blood sugars. The ranges given by these doctors are a sure way to develop complications!

Better yet, I don't know if you have diabetic complications, I had diabetic eye issues. I had diabetic double vision and autonomic neuropathy in my eye muscles. Within 4 months of true normal BG my vision improved and I no longer suffer from double vision or autonomic neuropathy. Mind you my average HbA1c for 20 years was between 5.9 to 6.6 the highest I had was 7.8. Even people with macular edema were able to reverse or improve their vision within 6 months of normal glucose levels. These doctors do not tell you that because they do not expect people to achieve normal glucosel levels.. You will feel different not tired, hungry, angry etc all the symptoms associated with the roller coasters glucose levels most endocrinologist recommend.
