Pirate101 is actually miles better than Wiz when it comes to the core gameplay. I wish I gave it a shot earlier on at the start of COVID because nowadays I just don't have the time to play it.

i like how pirate's a bit more mature than wiz. Like in wiz (atleast arc 1 from what i remember, not sure) doesnt explicitly use the word kill. But in pirate, they show the dead rat crew pretty early and while comical, show gunn get decapitated. During a side quest, someone just says "just kill em" so casually. Questing feels nicer too, not all great tho, damn bumble buffaloon. in wiz its just you and a few people that switch each world, while in pirate you keep and grow your crew throughout the story.

also the ship, maybe not the combat, cause its park near the target and spam the 4 abilities, but i love everything else. Going from island to island and crossing the skyways makes the worlds feel like an actual entire world. And the Skyways, OMG the skyways, they look SO good, cool ranch with the distant huge sun, Valencia with the giant central mechanism, Marleybone with the night sky, don't get me started on Mooshu's.

The crazy thing is that it hasn't even really got good yet. It gets particularly good at around level 30-35ish as the epics system really comes into play.

An interesting thing about Pirate101's F2P model is that there's actually two different spots for paywalls, depending on when you created your account. For some reason (which I won't complain about, given I have an older account), accounts created before the Blood Shoals revamp can play for free until the end of the Presidio, which adds a couple hours of content as well as multiple pretty damn fun dungeons. People who created their accounts afterwards, who you would think KingsIsle would have more incentive to hook with more F2P content, can only do one of the Blood Shoals quest lines. Really strange decision from KI.

Loved this video. I've played W101 since it came out but I always preferred P101. My family was poor so I only ever paid for W101. I never got past the paywall of P101, but it was really fun in the beginning. Now that I'm older, I might get back into it! This video convinced me!

As someone who’s been playing Pirate101 since the beginning and has an wealth of knowledge on the games lore and story, I’m so glad to see someone else talking about it I would’ve been 9 years old when this game came out, and it’s just really important to me, as funny as that sounds. From the character designs to the dialogue, to the gameplay, to the historical and pop culture references I’d love to see a follow up after you get further into the game. Cool Ranch just has so many references and action stuffed into it Also 2:35 I see what you did there

As a long-time fan of Pirate101, I'm excited to see this! Just be warned: Cool Ranch is a VERY long world. It's fun, but if you insist on doing multiple worlds per video, it might be a while before you can continue.

Get one month subscription with a few friends, rush through the main quest together, do side quests if you still have time, call it a day and try the game again in a few years. That's what my friends do with both this and Wizard101 and we all have a blast with it.

I legit play this game more than wiz(at least it feels like it), and I tend to enjoy it more! I've played wiz first, but since it died down a little in things to do I started playing pirate more again, not recently either! Its really fun 😊

After dedicating time to playing P101, I was honestly shocked and disappointed that it didn't get more attention from the developers and the public. It is a phenominal game with beautiful graphics, designs and animation, as well as an engaging storyline and fun gameplay. It is an underrated gem. I hope it will eventually get the love it deserves.

Pirate 101 has a unique simpleness to its approach to strategy games. Whenever I try to play a strategy game it quickly feels like it will quickly become something I have to micro manage.

when it first came out the pay wall only happen when you try to get your first ship, guess they change it, but it really was a fun game, I wish I continues at the time but I didn't any money because I was 10 or 12 maybe and parents didn't like putting up their credit card on the internet back then sadly.

I beta test this game when I was a kid, have the boochbeard bundle and it’s exclusive goodies to prove it. When the game finally went live I decided to switch things up and go witch doctor and I had so much fun running an undead crew through the skyways. I stopped playing when I hit the end of Aquila because I got burned out. Also if I remember correctly they added an aztecasaur side content in skull island to help pad the starting area out more later on in the games life.

I haven’t finished the video, but in regards to your membership complaint. You should know it was even worse at one point. Iirc there simply was no questline with the betrayed rats in blood shoals. You pull up, find out Ratbeard killed his friends, then get pointed towards a different section of the map, there was no Aztec section.

I didn’t buy membership ever. I just bought the areas outright. I did that about 8 years ago, and haven’t spent much more on the game. I love it though, so I still buy crowns from time to time. But I have saved quite a bit of money in the long run doing it area by area instead of subscribing month to month

Personally this is my opinion on the game: The game is a solid great game, it just seems to me that kings isle really just doesn't give any care in the world about this game. Valencia 2 is extremely lazy considering it lasts about 3 levels, and is just filled with a bunch of lazy and hard fights with enemies that can just move across the map and kill you in two turns. All of the new worlds that they've added (besides Tartarus) have been tolerable and pretty decent balancing. Now why I say "besides Tartarus" is because a lot if not all of the enemies are EXTREMELY UNBALANCED. they can kill you and your companions in like 1-2 turns and its just extremely unfun NOT MENTIONING how RARE the gear is for Tartarus on top of it not even being that good in the first place, A LOT of the Tartarus is either pretty irrelevant to use in the first place or its very useable and good. Now to talk about the actual development of the game: It seems to me that kings isle truthfully DOES NOT care about this game NEARLY as much as they do to wizard101. We have been sitting on the same level cap for (estimated guess) 5-6 years I wanna think? and they've added 3-4 different content updates that last about an hour or two that are just plain boring or extremely hard for no reason at all. They said that they are going to release krokotopia BUT GUESS WHAT. THEY STILL ARENT UPDATING THE LEVEL CAP. Not to mention krokotopia is probably 2 years away anyway, and they said that they are going to release the level cap after krok which that update is probably another 3-4 years away. This is my massive problem with Kingsisle That's just my opinion though.

So basically this is one piece Pirates setting out in mass to find a legendary island after the most infamous pirate of all time died Colorful crewmembers with wacky abilities Big government that creates much more harm than good, even going so far as to replace soldiers with robots Sailing in a place that doesn't act like a normal sea Main character seemingly predestined to be the next big name in pirate history Whether intentional or not, I'm on board with it and I'm definitely hopping onto pirate101 as soon as I've caught up on wizard, remember loving the idea as a kid when it came out and being really disappointed in that paywall

Main character is absent of family (ik luffy still has his grandfather and "brothers" and others but they were absent for the vast majority of his voyage) Mysterious rumored superweapon that can bring the world to its knees Companion(s) that originally were enemies to the protagonist The list still goes on
