For me the character creator was the best feature of the game. IGN putting Black Myth: Wukong in honerable mentions isn't surprising, they've been non-stop slandering the developers ever since they released their hit article on Game Science with intentional mistranslated quotes. I honestly believe Wukong was robbed of GOTY because of the "Jurors", who made 90% of the vote, all hated the game and tried to downplay or outright lie about the games success, which sold 10 million in three days of release and 20 million copies by september 28th, just five weeks after release and still has roughly 100k players daily. The players voice award is the only one I agree with as that was the only award that was 100% from the players that actually play and enjoy games.

While many of the players may be chinese, it doesn't mean only chinese people liked the game, you can find thousands of people all over the internet that are not chinese playing and praising this game as well. Black Myth: Wukong delivered a new and unforgettable story, Introduced people to Journey to the West and made very impressive sales within a matter of days of releasing, the game alone massively increased PS5 sales by itself in china to the point of them being sold out. To say it isn't GOTY material and that only the chinese like it is very disingenuous. (Edit) Also, just because chinese players like a game doesn't mean the game is bad, it's idiotic that people think "oh chinese people like it, don't like it, doesn't count" it's so stupid.

I honestly don’t see a problem with adapting something as long as it is done well and faithful to the source material. And yes, Journey to the west has been adapted several times in the form of film and TV, where game science differs is that they use the source material and make a sequel to it rather than a 1/1 recreation. They dive into what happens to Wukong after the events of the novel. As for Dragon Ball, it is inspired by Journey to the West, not an adaptation, the inspirations are more prominent in early dragon ball, by the time the Z sagas rolled around, the only thing that references them is son goku’s name. Edit: it isn’t 95%, if you actually looked at analytics, it’s estimated at around ~74.9%. And remember this is Steam alone, this doesn’t include players on PlayStation.
