The "best guitar in the world" is the one that you spend your time with replenishing your soul..... creating something satisfying or just playing something familiar and soothing to find some peace and rest at the end of the day. Scott once said something that has always stuck in my mind.... "lay on the floor in a dark room and play your guitar and just see what kind of notes you can put together and see what you come up with".... I felt a little foolish the first time I tried it! Now that I get it, I am reaching new levels. I'm not a musician like a lot of you guys are and boy, sometimes I sure wish I was.... But I get much pleasure from just picking away and trying to make my old fingers contort enough to play chords.... Right now, I have "the best guitar in the whole world" and Thanks Scott...... ;)

Scott, Is it worth spending the money on an acoustic guitar to buy one with solid wood back and sides as opposed to laminated. Not $3,000.00 for a Taylor, more like $12-!5 hundred for maybe a Seagull performing artist series? (I have not played one yet, I firmly believe in saving the money first). I have incorporated a lot of what you teach into my playing.
@groovydjs7 жыл бұрын
Howdy there Ted. So glad you have been able to use some of the things I've actually REMEMBERED how to play and teach over the years. lol After all this time...KEEP YOUR MONEY. Put on your headphones and check this out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGrTYWOQl5Z4hdE You'll be surprised. The back and sides play pretty much ZERO part in the sound of the acoustic.....only how deep the guitar is will give you a deeper and fuller sound. Laminated is beyond fine and dandy. I've sold off all of my big dollar acoustics except for the carbon graphite Rainsong. I kept the SILVERTONE el -cheapo because it SOUNDS the best. I kept one 12 string, just because.....and there is an Ovation that was given to me by the parents of a friend that passed away. But......that is it. My 100% laminated plywood axe sounds the best and the Rainsong PLAYS the best. So, no more high end acoustic axes for me. Let me know what you end up grabbing.

How I look at it is; there's a certain standard that needs to be met for a guitar to be good. After that, everything else just comes down to personal preference and what people are specifically looking for in their instrument. These days, I think it would be impossible to pick any guitar as "the best guitar", because it's so objective and everyone likes different things. I just like guitars in general. A lot of guitars I like aren't even so much about the playability, but the different ideas builders have had throughout history and how radically different guitars can be. Its not to say I'd play shows with all of them or tour with them, some vintage guitars are just inspiring to sit down with and think of the history of guitars. I think that's a big reason why people are so obsessed with '59 Les Pauls and early Fenders. It's the beginning of the guitars we love today and that's interesting to sit with and feel like you go back in time when you play them.

Amen Scott. Some great advice. Listening to you makes me remember my first guitars. I would walk to Paul Robinson's guitars and trade. Some of the guitars I have owned that would be worth the most today really sucked back in the 70's. At one point I had a 59 Gibson SG (it may have been a junior), had the plastic pickups. -Pickups so weak it just wouldn't do what I needed it to do back in the day. Should I have kept it for resale value? No, I'm glad I traded it, since I couldn't afford a second guitar. A musician needs something they can play. A collector needs something they can sell.

So true about guitars - I have an American deluxe strat and a Mexican standard - I fancied something a little different and have liked every telecaster I have ever picked up - I bought an SX Furrian Thinline Telecaster copy - £195 GBP brand new - I just love it - it "speaks to me" if you understand what I am saying - I played it at almost every gig last year - plays great (to me) - all the reviews say change out the pickups - they sound fine (to me) - A beautiful guitar - in the profile picture - Most people who see it think it is a Fender anyway - the listen with your eyes comment is spot on - Steve.

Scott, whats your opinion of Gibson's new adjustable brass nuts? Last time I was in a guitar store at least 20% of Gibson models were sporting the shiny thingamajigs.
@groovydjs7 жыл бұрын
I actually told Gibson what to do to improve all of their guitars and they did 80% of it and THOSE became their "High Performance" models. The GREAT titanium nut with the ZERO fret. The dual split coil pickups on the majority of them. They FINALLY did the cutaway on the stupid neck heels. They kept the stupid tuner on the back of the headstock. Kept the stupid bridges and stupid headstock angle......PLUS they put them ALL out there with VERY sub par quality. So, with them FINALLY taking the SMART things and making them a reality.....they killed it all by putting all of those things on shittier made axes. So, they are 100000% getting what they deserve. FINALLY!
@Teller34487 жыл бұрын
Not much point in building a 'high performance' guitar if the headstock still snaps off when it keels over. I have a 1954 Epiphone Century that cost $145 when it was new. The cheapest electric Epiphone made...and yet they still had the good sense to include a walnut reinforcing strip right through the neck to prevent breakage.

Every guitar has its pros and cons of playing it. Les Paul's and teles are bulky when sitting. SGs are neck heavy and have the first few frets in an awkward angle from my left shoulder. Floyd's are hard to setup and still have tuning issues. I'm gonna put an EMG 81 in my telecaster. Love the thicker neck. I have a 7 string with a strat body and a tune out matic bridge. That's pretty close to perfect too and cost maybe $130. what I really think would be awesome is a 7/8ths size Les Paul with a thin body carved like a super strat
@kuruyad6 жыл бұрын
Slimmer superstratty and ergonomic Les Paul? That exists, it's called the 90s version of the ESP Eclipse

Hey guys, can anyone tell me what are the advantages of a bolt on neck over a neck thru the body guitar? Is it just the option to replace it if it brakes or there are other things?
@groovydjs6 жыл бұрын
Every possible advantage goes to the bolt on necks. They have the MOST sustain.....neck thru has the LEAST. To add a shim is PRICELESS. You can have the neck removed in seconds and have your neck straightened out from being WARPED really quickly, where everything else is a MAJOR problem and VERY costly. Allows you to toss on a Graphite neck in seconds, which NEVER, EVER needs adjusting of any kind....EVER. Pull the neck off to refinish the body, to file fret edges, sand the finish off the back of the neck. Want to change from the 21 fret to 22, um...there you go. Want to change scale length.....there you go. Want to go baritone....there you go. You can do monster bends with a bold on.....all the way down a whole step on the low E without a trem system even installed....you would bust the neck off of any other style. If you want more, just shout.
@tasrex6 жыл бұрын
Groovy Music Lessons thanks for the detailed answer mate! I've always seen the bolt on neck as a cheaper solution instead of a versatile one. You've changed my thought about that. And what do you have to say about direct bolt as seen on Ibanez vs the neck plate as the fenders, does it have much difference? Cheers!
@kuruyad6 жыл бұрын
Yup adjustment, you can shim or shave to get your perfect action. Easier to mess with the frets, sand, refinish, shave and oil, etc too.

Teller3448 Andertons did a video where they stumbled on a long sustaining note of a PRS SE and in future episodes, they could duplicate it in other PRS SEs. Scott, you and Jerald knows my favorite guitar of all times. I can't afford one, but non the less it's still my favorite. The Ibanez PS10 such a beautiful looking guitar. Black with the pearl inlay binding around the body. I saw they had a new one out but it's $899. Still too much for me to be able to get. By the way Scott, Don't change man. Being you is the best thing. I don't like when people try to act fake because of followers. When someone just is just being themselves that is the best and that is why I like you. Because you are being you and I have learned so much from your videos. If I was able to get some of those guitars that you've mentioned in the past I might have been able to sell them for a PS10 who knows. Just like those mics you said within the next 5 years they will probably be selling around $300 or more. I don't doubt that a single bit man. Other people might not give you credit on getting things popular or to sell better, But I will.

Scott, I have 4 Gibson Les Pauls, all lower end models (Studios, Specials, Tribute, ect... because I'm not crazy enough to pay that much for a guitar). I love them but to your point, they are not engineered the best and I have a lot of guitars that are more comfortable to play that stay in tune better and are sturdier as well. The fallacy of break angle and sustain. The only thing apt to break is the neck. lol I have to treat them with kid gloves where I can rock out with my Strats and not worry about them. The stats stay in tune better too as long as I leave the trem bar in the case. Then there is my Ibanez RG. Straight string pull, light, contoured bass wood body, bolt on neck, 24 frets with great access, a modern guitar. I get your point and totally agree, yet I love my Les Pauls ....... I guess I'm just guitarded. lol
