Black metal has a ton to offer that many subgenres can't even scratch the surface of and the fun of it is finding what really scratches your itches. Do you like low tuned pissed off black metal? Or technically proficient and highly atmospheric stuff? Or if you're trying to time travel the first wave is really historically interesting. There's something to take from it no matter what band you find, it's just up to you to find what you appreciate in it.

@@Dead_ham I agree, I spend a lot of time actively searching for not as accessible bands to discover, and the only times I find something special it's generally under their label's pages where all the rosters are in one place. The tag system is strangely basic for metal I've found, too. Either Bandcamp needs to be more extensive in searches or I need to up my research game.

"The Chosen One" by Destrage was my favorite album of last year primarily because they're so FUN to listen to. Also I found Haunter's "Sacramental Death Qualia" this year and have been enjoying that since.

Am a sucker for dissonance and Crimson Stars is just a godtier song. I also loved the other IBM releases such as Andavald and Arstiđir Lifsins. Not a fan of trad metal or thrash for that matter so I am not acquainted with most here but I love the fact you're a DS fan and Swamp Thing. Check out Hath and Firelink if you want more DS-themed methul. I am more of a Bloodborne Chad myself but just played DS1 yesterday, fun as always. Glad you mentioned Prosthetic records, people are starting to realize how shitty they are, similar to Unique Leader. Whatever the case, Prosthetic had a pretty good year and one of their bands ended up at my top 20. Speaking of which, I have a small IG page called lovelothsartgazebo and I do music reviews and keep people updated with what's going on in the underground world of music. Fav genres are prog, black metal, post-metal but I got into pop, indie and jazz last year in a big way.
