Good review. Biggest problem with icon and hf is that you cannot buy individual wrenches or socket to have extras of common used sizes or to replace lost tools. Ex

That's not entirely true.. you have to contact customer service (call) and go through them to get a single replacement tool.. Yes, it takes longer than walking in and getting a replacement but Snap-on isn't always right on the truck either..you'll wait for a Gearwrench replacement through the mail..but it can be done

I have 6 ICON wrench sets, and I am happy with them all. Another thing to consider about ICON/Harbor Freight is that you can wait for a sale (Parking lot, hand-tool, ICON-specific, or many other ones.) And if you are ITC, or a HF credit card holder, you get even more perks. The first set you mentioned, (the long-pattern metric set)I bought with a 25% off ICON coupon. Plus, I stacked a 10% off any item birthday month coupon. I paid 56 bucks for the set. You have to be smart about what you buy at HF, but it also pays to be smart about WHEN to buy. ;)

An important point to consider when purchasing any hand tool is the ability of the vendor to honor its warranty. I've observed that many vendors discontinue portions of the product line over time, and when this happens the "lifetime warranty" becomes useless as the broken item is no longer stocked or even manufactured. At best, you may receive a "similar" hand tool or a credit against a future purchase (and the credit usually has an expiration date).

I own and abuse the ICON Anti Slip Grips sets in SAE and Metric. I am very happy with them. Beat the brakes off them fixing trash trucks for a year, now using them at an independent auto shop. I agree that they are not Snap-on Flank Drive or MAC RBRT, but they are very, very good for the price.

I highly recommend the Icon anti slip reversible ratcheting wrenches they are GREAT. I use them every day. the only problem i got with them is that my co workers try to use them all the time.

I wouldn't bother, Harbor Freight sells some surprisingly good quality stuff now but those Pittsburgh wrenches are still made in India/China and bend as if they were plastic

I used to use icon wrenches they were pretty good but one day I bought a different set from wright and now the icon is collecting dust. I do like there impact sockets a lot tho the no skips and affordability is so so nice

Cool. I did get the Capri extra long double box set with the 22x24 wrench. They are gorgeous and very stout. Next set of long wrenches would probably be the Tone with the offset box on one end and the offset ratcheting, indexing, flex head on the other...TONE RMA400L.

I was going to buy the box end double flex heads but ended up going with a Tekton set. Got 7 wrenches instead of 5 and paid $25 less (plus 10% back)

I needed 3 sets of the 120xp spline flip over sets from Taiwan to make ONE good one, not confidence inspiring at all, but that is my favorite open end. I wish they could just keep a single pawl 90T, something more guaranteed, it seems the dual pawl get pretty messed up. I went ahead and also bought that DeWalt reversible set and they seem very true., Although the DeWalt warranty is almost worthless in my recent experience with them. It's just a bad economy. HF is kicking ass.

There are even people saying they are made at the same factory as the Snap On wrenches are made at which is not true.The anti slip versions are made by Infar whom also makes them for Channellock,Milwaukee and Napa Carlyle.I have that ratcheting wrench set with the anti slip,bought it as a complete set that was a return.There was nothing wrong with then working good.Two were only used in the set

I opened it up,the plastic piece that held the wrenches in was loose not held in with the screws that secured it in

Icon is being made from last-gen Snap On tooling, that's why they're able to make exact 1:1 copies of them. The only differences are the Icon is about 5% softer metal, which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it, and the Icon obviously being far cheaper to purchase.

I'm genuinely interested in your opinion on this Tony. Once can't help but notice the similarity in the Icon wrenches and the Carlyle wrenches, especially as it pertains to the "anti-slip" feature of the open end. What are your thoughts on the quality of the two brands? To me, the two brands are so similar I can't help but wonder if they aren't made on the same manufacturing line.

I'm a big Tekton fan, but I think they dropped the ball. They need to do long pattern wrenches and maybe add an anti-slip design. I love their ratchets

Icon is made in taiwan, not china. or, sometimes, in USA.
