I have a large fish tank full of shrimp. And when my propagations get fungus or rot I pop them in the tank and the shrimp clean them up perfectly. I don't know if anyone else does this but it works.

Yes, I propogate in one of my aquariums as well, or just let something grow out in there. The fishy poop water does wonders for my plants. I also just store the fishy poop water for watering my other plants, gallons of the stuff.

I hate you lost your vetchii, you were so happy. At this point I’d clean off all the mold an rot a soak it in peroxide at least a min or two. The glass might be keeping them to wet. If you have small plastic cup. At this point you have nothing to loose but to try. I have one in moss since Oct 16 it’s finally growing a root! Good luck

Hi Claire! I expect a 10% loss when any plant material is shipped, installed, whatever. As you said, the plants have been through a LOT by that point. You just have to expect that and factor it into your buying decision.

Hey girl! I’m just a layman and I’m trying to wrap my head around this entire situation but I’m wondering if the entire box wasn’t covered in a fungal infection from the day it was shipped to you! It seems to me that with someone who has been experienced with plants as well as you have, you could not have been responsible for this to happen in such a short period of time, I do follow another channel and she imports a lot! I know that she has received boxes like yours and from day 1 had been water and peroxide immediately, and still the plants rotted, however, she always gives the company honest feedback and when it’s that bad, she calls the company immediately and shows her video and then she always gets reimbursed with healthy plants! Why would you not notify the company of your plant shipments, free or not, and tell them honestly how bad the plants arrived? I’m betting that they knew what shape the plants were in from the day they shipped them out to you! Good Luck and I do hope you make that call

H. glabra and latifolia (macrophylla is obsolete) look very similar and from the leaves it is sometimes impossible to tell them apart. Under the same cultivation conditions, H. latifolia produces very flat leaves that appear somewhat narrower overall than the downward-curving leaves of H. glabra.

I really relate to your sentiment from your rehab video where you talked about “this plant would still be fine if I hadn’t gotten it”. I have that type of plant guilt sometimes with imports, but like you said… if you hadn’t gotten it someone else would have. And you’ve given it its BEST chance at survival honestly. It could have gone to someone who would have just chucked it when it dropped leaves 🤷🏻‍♀️

Importing plants from different regions subjects plants to shock with them having to acclimate to the constant range in temperatures as well as adjustment to selected substrate. It certainly isn't cool to ask for replacement plants when they were kind enough to gift you so many. Just my 2-cents.

Plants in their natural environment don't grow in semi-hydro medium, so I certainly wouldn't start them out that way to acclimate them when you first get them. I would put them in a chunky aroid mix for at least 6 months. Then, perhaps gradually switch them over. So sorry about your plant losses. But, it does happen to all of us at one time or another.

I agree with you, it’s too much of a shock after all the plants have been through, and whilst many people grow plants in this medium, I always feel it’s unnatural, but each to their own.

Also soaking the roots in water was probably a bad idea and encouraged rot.

I was thinking the same thing. Rotting would’ve been my concern. I personally, wouldn’t grow my plants that way, but especially not plants straight out of transit.

Appreciate the video of what you can possibly expect when importing. Watching a plant die is hard. I got a small veitchii from a US importer, and all has gone well. I have never been brave enough to import myself. Just waiting to recieve a package mailed from another state causes me tremendous anxiety..

So sorry about the Veitchii! I have no experience importing but when ordering a plant I never repot them immediately but let them acclimate for 2 weeks in the medium they came in. Maybe the switch to semi hydro was too much of a shock. I always remember Kaylee Ellen saying that repotting directly after shipping is as if you have to move house after coming back from a very long trip!

Burle Marx will ALWAYS have green reverted leaves, which makes sense when you look at that insane growth pattern. It’s constantly producing new growth points and branching, so the variegation inevitably gets lost on 50-75% of the new growth points it seems. Just a matter of chopping and propping tho, which is always fun 😊

Hi Claire. Sorry to hear about your Veitchii. I tried to save my Syngonium - Pink Splash which suffered from rot by placing it in Leca. The result was a green shoot emerged and then fell off. Rot is rot. Sometimes it's just too late to save. I really enjoyed this timeline comparison video.

Hi Claire. I’ve watched both the unboxing and follow ups and although you received these plants free of charge, I feel that the importer would appreciate constructive feedback about how each plant has traveled etc as well as making it clear that you don’t expect any competition and are very grateful for the plants in the first place. I think that by these importers sending free plants overseas would be their way of testing the plant’s potential to travel and survive some pretty adverse conditions. That’s just my view on the whole thing but in the end it’s your choice how you deal with it. Thanks for sharing these interesting videos on imports, I’ve very much enjoyed watching.

Hi Claire! That’s so sad. Sorry to hear about ur new plant friends. I have recently been buying plants on line and I feel you on how crazy different it is vs buying from shop in person. Mine did not travel outside of the states but had many that did not well once they got here due to many reasons too😢

My opinion only but planting in glass has never done well for me No matter what kind of plant it is ): there is no air circulation in those roots because of the glass Try using clay pots -less mold more air (:

Sorry about your Veitchii. I have 3 wide form veitchiis, a pretty large one I grew from a small plant and 2 small ones. I have only grown mine in a chunky mix after initially growing it in a net pot in sphagnum moss. I also have the narrow form and that one is also in a chunky mix. I don’t know about growing them in leca because I haven’t tried. Maybe I will try 1 of the small ones in pon. For Hoyas, if I have any trouble with any of them, I chop and put in a warm and humid environment in leca. Usually they snap back but some are just a pain and hard to grow no matter what I do.

That vetchii...... I would cut to clean tissue and add a ( as thick as it will allow) layer of cinnamon over the raw wound. From my experience that will dry out the tissue and help limit, if not kill the mould..... h2o2 is good to but use it at 3% strength, then perhaps the cinnamon. Good luck 👍

I'm so sorry for your veitchii. Maybe the plant wasn't just as hardy as the others and isn't it what a planty journey is all about? Making mistakes, learning things either it's a new one or something we already knew but somehow we still do it because we are just humans and not perfect like our plants 🥲 sending hugs ❤️

They have you so many so that’s at least cool of them, it’s always a risk tbh and someone’s plants do not want to survive because if so many resources it only roots and temperatures. It really is a living thing that feels dead
