No joke this is the best video on reducing input lag I’ve ever seen. I’ve been going down the input lag rabbit hole for years now and your suggestions had the MOST benefit. Disabling HPET, disable MSI mode on everything, dedicated sound/Ethernet via USB (this was big for me. I had my headphones plugged into my Xbox controller. This causes huge input lag). Another surprising change was setting my RAM and CPU frequencies to match. Games feel real-time now! Thank you so much!

I personally use it to compete in CS:GO, the source engine also loads a lot of skins into VRAM/RAM, so make sure you don't have too many XD These tweaks work especially well for games on Source. MSI mode for games like CSGO seem to make everything feel sluggishand juddery/poor netcode response.

Man, I'm a complete defender to the fact this game nerfes and buffes determined players during DM's at least... It's pretty clear how you are dominating one, you can win it, then u enter another, and start top fragging and suddenly, everyone kills you like they are gods, and none of your bullets will land until the 2nd or 3rd player are close to you in points, like to make it harder for you to win it. For me experimenting around the best ways to make input lag consistent is to find a goldilocks zone of voltage and clockspeed, for me ~ 1.3v CPU vcore, with 1.6-1.7v of VCCAUX (Input voltage), and 1.4v of DRAM voltage. Then I run all my drivers on Undefined MSI or high, whichever works better. Currently using undefined. I also run fast sync on without anything else toggled in NVIDIA control panel, and it works to smoothen out hitreg and eliminate most overswing. It is certainly strange as well to note that some days I can run Linebased with all undefined and it's smooth as butter for hitreg and overswing, but other days it's completely unusable and MSI mode it is as my fallback.

READ THE WARNINGS IN THE DESCRIPTION! EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. USB 2/3.0 is always a strong fallback. Don't use Linebased on your NVME's/SATA on Ryzen if it causes them to freeze up. Some older ports are susceptible to that. It can be fixed by toggling it off again in safe mode or on another secondary intel PC to uninstall your hidden SATA drivers though. For AMD GPUs just use Performance textures and Anti Lag on. Sam is optional. Some AMD systems will prefer ALL MSI Mode, especially ATX B550, and X570, which may have issues due to PCIE shielding and the southbridge dropping on Linebased, even for USB controllers. Surprisingly B450M motherboards I've tested from SOYO/Maxsun don't appear to have issue. Really badly shielded intel boards and few realtek NIC's have similar symptoms, like some Asrock Z370 Pro 4, though it is extremely rare. This is likely a design and shielding issue with the southbridge, which provides the USB controller and passes throughout the entire motherboard's thousands of traces. In theory and practice MSI mode and Linebased mode will be hard to quantify on highspeed cameras. MSI will move the mouse at a similar response compared to linebased, but less consistently. If you draw a circle, both will look the same in paint, say at 8k res. LDAT is irrelevant for such a test, since we're more worried about mouse input consistency than screen response frame to frame. But when you spray a rifle, Line by Line gives you far more granularity compared to MSI, which groups and orders your inputs against other devices. The only way I can spray an AK in real time and transfer accurately in CS:GO or Valorant, is by running Line by Line mode. Think of Linebased essentially as raw-interrupt. PCIE VLI USB cards run better for me even on 12th gen intel against the native USB ports. They're much more responsive. On Ryzen you need to set the original USB ports to low priority or disable them completely, as they add input lag when left on with high prio. FL1100 Fresco controllers seem to work OK for mouse and keyboard input VLI805 is good for mouse and keyboard but WIFI may drop out depending on how it's setup and which firmware it is running Edit: Don't buy NEC it got slower over time. Which setup did you have before? I think the only good motherboards for 6-9th gn came from MSI and gigabyte at times. Asus had some really bad ones for USB signal latency and otherwise. Probably worth investing in a VL805 USB card and just running mouse and keyboard to that via line mode :) You need to pretty much bypass the CPU -- another important thing is to turn off Intel SGX in the bios and set the FCLK at boot to 1GHz or the input lag is insane

Also if you have a PCIE 4 motherboard make sure you use PCIE 3 mode instead as the shielding for PCIE 4 is far inadequate when you're running USB devices under the PCIE lanes of the GPU and NVME bays, which may or may not be running or set to PCIE 4 in the bios regardless of whether there is a PCIE 4 device even plugged in. This massively improves precision of your mouse [and may allow some otherwise non compliant motherboards from B550 to *maybe* run linebased all. BACKUP if you want to test that part though.] AMD shielding on PCIE 4 is garbage. Intel shielding on PCIE 4 is also garbage (but somewhat usable even if it has ECC popping off every second). Disable and you can get higher memory/core/GPU overclocks regardless. Tech is getting too fast for the flimsy PCB traces and copper masking running throughout the 4-12 layer PCB's that the new motherboards are rocking -- it's just simply not enough distance between each trace to allow such - nor the thickness of the copper ground planes.

Cannot confirm nor deny that. I use hyperthreading atm but I've seen older systems prefer turning it off - but only on older systems from gen 3 and below. Single core GPU affinity should help pacing since you don't need to time sync between all the cores, but I don't even know how you would go about it. For CSGO with 8 cores hyperthreaded I use -threads 2 for best results in aim.

Tnx for informative video! I think, i will invest in usb audio/net devices, cuz makes a noticeable difference for u and many other people. In my testing: onboard vs pci slot audio/lan cards, i did always end with a bit more input lag. Could be cuz i not used cpu direct slot, what u mention in video, but again it could be, more likely, cuz it adds new entry in IRQ list of things, that sucking cpu time, so onboard/integraded stuff had edge in input lag. Now with turning all off and putting stress on usb controller, alone, that is great idea! I just hope to find proper brands, here in my poor living place! (Serbia) Now about nvidia control panel..I find "Threaded optimization" to be source of lag, sadly, in older game engines, that tend to run super responsive, with hammering one cpu core. About msi mode and rest...that is a bit tricky to...i guess depending how fast ur cpu is clocked, plus i keep gpu on default and only usb controller on high prio, plus all is in msi mode. That is what i find good on my pc hardware in moment. HPET on in bios and off in windows, for a bit more min fps stability/= less input lag, again in stuff that likes single core perf. I not play modern, heavy engines that using cpu cashe a lot and are well multicore optimized, so i bet, input lag reduction setup that we using, might change per game engines to! Well now to try to help with net code problem, what i saw in peer to peer games like Cube 2...where some people end to look like they cheat, so they see u before u can them...aka "i playing in past/they playing in future feel"! I can teal that when i had pure wifi net, i could click a bit sooner and player position was more correct, aka i had more chance vs others, who are obvious favored by net code system, but on contrary with better net, that is now vdsl, where i have far less jitter and all bad stuff with what wifi come, are gone, i still end with higher input lag, in click and on my surprise like i did got minus 50-100 ms reaction time penalty lol. So all in all, seems that blurbuster site forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?t=6498&start=100 have answer for me, in form of bad electric interface, tnx to new net. But for more specific situation, why only x player is always with uperhand, i really not know, beside that it could be, partial, cuz player position smoothing, that probably works different vs ping/delay values, so u can do magic, like make, fake position of enemy, for self, sooner, on ur end of network, tnx to having something that server favores.(be it distance or simple firewall filtering on host side or just electronic stuff, that i can't comprehend well) So ye, tnx again, for this video! Have good gaming to!

The idea is you fully disable the Net and Sound in bios and just run the USB equivalent of Sound and Net cards. Could be wifi and say a creative sound blaster DAC, they produce the least input lag of all in my testing. For Wifi adapters only the 8822BU and similar realtek from EDUP have been known for me to work (I AM NOT SPONSORED BY ANYONE) VIA USB 3 feels pretty nice, been using them as secondary adapters, and they have good driver compatibility. I bought a 7700x and ddr5 ram at 6000mhz. To reduce lag I should reduce the speed of the ram to match the one of the processor???!! That doesn´t sound right, right? English isn´t my mother tonge, what did I miss? Also, could we use Nvidia reflex to have numbers on how much each thing helps reduce input lag? I mean, not necesarily you, as that would be an investment, I am asking if that would be possible to do in general, because when you have numbers then people start taking the issue more seriously as you can make rankings on both hardware and software.
@compuguy123
@compuguy123 Жыл бұрын
Well here's the kicker, the 7700X can't operate ram past a certain speed without kicking down into Gear 3 - where as with intel we only need gear 2 or as little as gear one for smaller 2 dimm motherboards that specialise in memory OC. If you can do gear 2 or gear 3 with tighter memory timings and synced speeds, it's more ideal than just raw speed numbers - of course, moot past a certain point. If speeds are out of sync I can only imagine how the mod arithmetic will apply for waiting on the cache, core, and memory clocks to get data synced up and pushed down the line. I ordered a 480FPS 480p/720p? camera just for that, it's on the way and will take about a month. In the meantime I've been wrestling with ram timings to ensure consistent boot latency across whatever PC's I'm testing. It set me back around 600 AUD, so it's no small undertaking. I have a 1000FPS camera but it's like 100p, so practically useless rn. Bioses love to start with trash responsiveness and iron out after the 2nd - 5th reboot.

They're more accurate for your mouse input than the on board ones which are across the board generally desynced and unable to maintain 1000Hz on both the mouse and the keyboard under load with anything else that's plugged into USB, which often includes a wifi adapter as well. Really bad old examples can't even run a 1000Hz mouse on a game like valorant without input buffering due to varying refresh rates and low controller performance. I have an AM3 motherboard with horrendous on die and on board USB performance, that absolutely does not care when I use offboard USB instead. So Renesas 0.96 driver controllers, old on die open source USB controllers, even the new 13th gen and AMD controllers all suck for consistency. The best ones that I can recommend are only between 3rd gen and 4th gen intel motherboards of the Z77-Z97 implementations. That's probably when the on die USB was the best at it's job, more consistent likely due to the fabrication size being less susceptible to EMI? Yes some have 'better latency' but they don't maintain that throughout a game when say, the GPU requires more resources, or the game gets an intense fight over your wifi or ethernet. I doubt the shielding on the on die USB controller is sufficient, AMD is horrid when it's overclocked at any rate past 3200MHz on the ram, too.

Your board needs to be able to handle the timings. My Neo's Run great if I can adjust the VCCSA or if they're on a 2 slot Z370M ITX from ASRock. I set them if they are B die to 2533MHz 7-19-39 on that board, which should technically be impossible. Voltage on that B die can do 1.55v You can do 15-19-39 on yours at the same speed to see if it works.

If you run ryzen be sure to allow NVME drives to run on MSI mode if they cause freezing in linebased mode, since a lot of the motherboards won't allow it (or the CPU itself is badly traced -- which is sometimes the case).

@@den3198 Tell me your ram timings. You need to set your timings ratio to 12:24:24:48 or similar ratio; 1-2-2-4. Second you need to set an external framerate cap and enable Ultra low latency on Nvidia control panel. DISABLE ALL IN GAME FRAME CAPS. Leave in game Reflex to ON or OFF; then test ON+BOOST when you get a feel of the new changes. Third you need to set FAST VSYNC to on in NVidia control panel, this is optional but can help further improve framerate pacing. Last try to set your ram speed under 3000MHz and place them in slots 2 and 3 instead of 2 and 4, it will force ram to train under adverse conditions and much more consistently low for input lag across all games.

Why should I disable sysmain if it's saying that it is improving performance?
@compuguy123
@compuguy123 Жыл бұрын
Windows 11 says it's fast, is it actually fast? Sysmain uses your drive with your CPU to make it access the drive faster. You're playing a game with barely any drive accesses; CSGO, League, Valorant, Fortnite, most things are stored in VRAM. Having windows sorting junk in the SSD in the background while playing a game will make it run slower. An HDD will cause the game to stutter if you had sysmain on. Windows 7, despite rumours, did not bother to have Sysmain in the background churning up drive endurance.

Just avoid the USB 3.2's from both manufacturers, or whatever port that is above the USB C port. Otherwise, experiment, since no generation and motherboards are always the same. Some run through chipset and the others ondie, sometimes they have everything pass through a offboard ASMEDIA or VLI chip, so it's really hit or miss depending. For me, I find offboard USB's a lot better shielded and more consistent. I recommend the FL1100 and the VL805, whichever is more affordable with what you use.

This is largely older information based on general ryzen 5000 series design. The newer ones have ironed out the million USB controller issues and dropouts quite some, obviously you still have the imploding SOC on the 7000 series ryzens, so I still recommend the 5000X3D or something that isn't as high as the max X3d of the 7k series. Of course, Intel 13th gen will be far more reliable. Most newer fabs of AMD and Intel are more suscept to input lag for reasons that are likely related to the fab nodes being small enough to introduce crosstalk if the supply rail AC hot/neutral is not properly filtered, or if the ground is filtered through the same choke. Also, the XTX does not allow you to have stable high FPS in some games where NVIDIA still reigns as supreme.

@@che3Ak 500 is a good start so long as the memory VRM's have cooling lol Some can do up to 1200 but I'd stay below 1000 long term, 500 for an extra factor of safety.

low up to high depends on what feels best. I also have to add you should backup the drive then lower the DRAM VTT voltage from half of the memory down to about 38% of the memory voltage to make it usable.

Check the video I made on the USB adapter I tested Good frame or two difference between onboard v offboard with Ryzen On intel the diff is not huge, but it will help the netcode for games like valorant if you have issues, plugging the wifi adapter into the offboard card seems to alleviate it
