You must compensate for different lofts. A little math can do this but it's totally unfair to award the same points for distance when there are different lofts. You can calculate what the others brands WOULD be if they were all the same loft. Or you can divide average distance and loft and get yard per degree or something like that. Or better, learn how to adjust lofts and bend them all to the same loft, overriding the manufacturer's gamesmanship.

I agree, however, players using these dont care if they go far. They just care if they go the right distance for their gapping. The category should be distance consistancy.

This video is missing some of the best performance in this category. Rick makes good content, but when it comes to reviewing clubs it’s just not it. I know it was said but looks sound and feel are all subjective. WE WANT TO SEE DATA. Which spins the most/least, which launches the lowest/highest, which creates the most ball speed with the same loft, and most importantly which is the most a consistent in doing those things. GO GET FIT, leave biases to the side, go with performance and what checks your boxes of feel of the best performers.

I am on 2 seasons and my second set of wilson staff model cb's and I love the feel. That's the only reason I bought them after coming off a Mizuno set I couldn't relinquish for 20 years. Mizuno should be included in this test. Otherwise, it just isn't fair. Afterall, Mizuno is the leader in forged club feel. But Wilson is cheaper and just as good. Gonna purchase a set of Takomo's as well this spring and see where they take me. Thanks Rick. Keep up the good work.

Love these videos, but you can't do this test without: Callaway APEX CB, Cobra King CB, Srixon ZX7 MKII, Mizuno Pro 243. All of these sets will outsell both the Vice and Takomo, even though they may perform decently. I see why you left the lofts at stock, but at the same loft there wouldn't be much, or almost at all, of a difference in distance. Then you'd see which clubs give the most speed.

I’m currently an 11 GHIN. When I first got my T-100S set in 2020 in was around a 20 GHIN. I actually improved my swing/scores after moving away from “game improvement” irons to the ones rec’ed for much better golfers than I was. The guy who fitted me was actually quite apprehensive, but I knew what I wanted & was confident I could hit them. Which, obviously, I can now. I honestly think the mental side plays a big role too in the club-fitting. If you are confident you can hit a “low handicapper” iron & the feel/look good to you at address, man, go for it. I absolutely LOVE my T100S set. If price was more of an issue & I were to replace them, I’d prob go w/either the Wilson or Takomo set. The Vice looks ugly to me. Burning reality, when I get my next set in 2-3 years, I’ll prob go the T-150 if they are still selling those.

Does static loft not factor into dynamic loft? I think it might . . .
@lawbinson
@lawbinson 5 күн бұрын
@GregKuper-c8p Assuming that everyone delivers the same loft relative to static is the issue. I'm saying we need to know both. If we can see the difference between dynamic and static that Rick delivers vs someone who delivers little to no shaft lean, that gives so much more context. Aside from fitting, the OEMs also claim that CG locations and face flexing can alter dynamic loft to manage height. Without Dynamic Loft, how do we validate that claim? Static loft factors into dynamic loft but that effect is specific to someone's swing. It is the most direct path to altering height, but you only know which way to go when you have Dynamic Loft.

I'm not a 'hater' (not even a disliker 😁), but I agree with some of the comments about criteria. Firstly, getting points for distance when the lofts are not the same, is irrelevant and biases what really isn't a 'low handicapper' club. Secondly, since aesthetics is so subjective, it really shouldn't be included. I bet if we (all commenters) ranked them, and tallied the totals, they'd all end up with virtually the same score. Thirdly, front-to-back dispersion is more important to low handicap golfers than left-to-right, so distance dispersion would be a better measure of 'accuracy'. Finally, it should have been a 'points out of 10' scale. If the Wislons felt so much better than the others, and the Takomo were so much cheaper, they should get proportionally more points. Then take away 7.5 yards from the Vice distance for the jacked lofts, and ... we have a new winner. My money is on the Wilsons, (well it's invested in them actually) but hey, I'm not biased 😉

Not changing my i210s, but if they were stolen and i had to get new irons some of these would definitely be on my list. Vice at 31 degrees for a 7i is not what I want. Takomo reminds me of a Mizuno MP18SC, that is a good thing. But lack of shaft options rules them out. Of the remaining 4 irons I would test the Wilson first - I love the look, if the feel is as good as Rick suggests then a probable winner for me, but I would also have to test the Blueprint S even though the size of the 5i is a bit scary

So just to put this all in context... the #1 iron played on Tour (the best low handicappers) is last place for Rick...

1st of all, Titleist sponsor by far the most players on tour. 2nd of all, this is a classic example of just because it's best for a tour player, doesn't mean it's the best for the general public. He's correct that the T100s feel the worst out of this test. They still feel decent, but in my own testing they are towards the bottom when it comes to feel.

Man, whatever. I don't agree with him at all. And no way Vice is better than the T100, which I also don't play. Doesn't take a club fitter to know this. But go on with what you think is best. Not trying to argue.

I feel like instead of distance it should be distance consistency. For low handicappers they need consistent distance. They don’t want a club prone to huge variation in distance

Had you used a higher point scale or used tenths on your 5 point scale, you could’ve accounted for how much better feel the Staff model is or even the insane price point of Takomo’s.

Love the idea buT if it’s subjective then you have to be more proportional. Clubs losing 1 pt based on negligible 1 yard less carry 4:04 - yet ping getting 2pt for £50 a club more expensive than Wilson onwards which is £350 over 4-PW is just unrealistic 6:49

Srixon ZX7 MKII, Callaway Apex CB, Cobra King Tour CB, Mizuno 243, Takomo 301 CB, all of these are missing which is a crime, doesn’t matter you haven’t tested them, that’s like saying the best selling car in the world is the Vauxhall Astra because you don’t get the F-150 in the UK. Besides, I’m pretty confident seeing your last “Look at all these clubs I received but never took out of the box” video that some or all of these clubs are in a box at the studio. Also, distance should have been replaced with Consistency and Workability should have been added as a criteria.

tough to do a winner in this section without Mizuno given that they feel great same for Srixon Thing is as well in future the Ping will still hold a decent resale value but cost most so bit of a trade off

Full points for distance seems so arbitrary considering they aren't the same loft. A more important stat to look at would be stopping power. difference between carry and total distance i think is a better stat to judge especially with a 7.

Titleist all day for me. Keen to try the new Srixons and Mizunos but not ready to replace my 718 AP2s just yet. Keep your Takomo, Vice and these other direct to consumer brands. If you can’t hit it and get fitted for it, they’re a bust. I ain’t buying a set of irons online on a wing and a prayer
