Three years ago I decided that I wanted to keep my body heathy and strong as long as possible. I needed something that I felt I could sustain in the long term. For me that means working out at home with limited space. My solution was kettlebells for twenty to thirty minutes two days on one off. I didn't think it was too much of a commitment. Not a lot but thought it better than doing nothing. I was so wrong. The results have been fantastic. I am now 63 and am way fitter, slimmer and just as strong as I was when I was 45. For most of my life I have been an intermittent trainer. Training hard for six months and not returning to the gym for a couple of years. Training less in a way that I find I can do consistently has been a break through. No gym bags clothes or traveling to the gym just strip to my underwear, put on some music and pick up a kettlebell. Half a hour and done.

Have watched this a few times. Have to leave a comment. The whole deal with "exercise", especially into your senior years is - keep doing it. If you persist you will improve, that is the reason to exercise. You don't need special easy moves for older people, you need to master the same moves as everybody else. Very comedic representation of an old person!

73 years old and a lifetime of stamina related sports my main sport is now cycling about 150 miles per week with club. Having recently built a home gym I have been using a Bowflex multi gym which I have found good for chest, shoulders and arms but a little limited for abdominals and legs. Tried an old 16kg kettlebell I bought many years ago and looked at some videos. Worked well and I liked the dynamics of it. Came across your videos which were clear and concentrated on form and spine health. For some of the exercises I found the shape of my cast iron kettlebell limiting so bought an adjustable competition style, which I’m starting with 12kg, great. One exercise I have been doing is the figure of 8 which I have found difficult to keep form due to catching calves when keeping back straight. I have not seen this exercise on your site yet and would appreciate your thoughts how effective it is. Keep up the good work and keep encouraging seniors to keep exercising and how it helps with maintaining balance.

Great stuff... I’m 67. I got time, so I spend much longer warming up. I go through a 30 minute easy and thorough warm up and mobility for all joints - neck, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, wrists, fingers and toes. Then I move through 30 minutes of basic kettlebell exercises - 3 rounds - goblet squat, round the head circles, deadlift, one arm row, one arm floor press, hanging knee raise.. End with swings and suitcase carry. I’ll add that hardstyle swings gave me back pain - your hybrid system is better and got me back into swings. Off days I walk and jog.

I'm 63 with stability issues due to a rather serious case of Tinnitus, it's also causing a mild Vertigo reaction so going up and down is difficult. I started a kettlebell routine about 5 months ago, I'm a morning person so I'm up and walking, usually 2 miles, first thing then a kettlebell workout consisting of 50 side laterals per side counting when the side holding the kettlebell is bent. Then 50 hard style swings nonstop followed by 20 swing to a clean per side. Then cool down with more stretching,. All weighted movements are with a 12kg kettlebell and I increase the reps as quickly as I confrontly can...I've seen an a good increase in stamina and lm down a notch on my belt so far without any real changes to my diet. I'm working towards being able to do goblet squats and the T getup but I'm not there yet. Really enjoying your channel since I found it

@patrickokeeffe4787
@patrickokeeffe4787 2 жыл бұрын
That workout is a nice starting point, Gregory and I like that you put in the carry. This a simple and powerful exercise. Personally, I'd DROP the lunge.😱 Here is the why of it. Most people at 50-60 will more than likely have weight, balance, stability and ankle mobility issues. I was a 300lb man with poor ankles and balance and it would have been an impossibility to get up off the floor on one leg. It's also a receipt for injury. While it's a nice thought to teach an old guy like me to get up off the floor, it might be a better starting place to teach me how to get up from a chair or a toilet without the support of my arms first! 😃 Most overweight or even normal weight 50-60 year olds can't do that without a struggle. So a goblet squat to a box or chair would serve older people best at first in my opinion. Its a safer exercise to build up a stable base with the ankles and when you look at it practically......how many times a day will you get up off a chair or toilet compared to a floor? When that overweight person then looses substantial weight through good diet, walking, and gain confidence with some of the more simpler exercises.....they can introduce the single leg lunge and they will have less bodyweight to lift and have more stability/mobility in the ankles which will make the exercise a lot easier and safer for them to learn. Also another thing in hindsight I should have learned is to how to clean the bell to the rack position first before the swing. I can't state how important it is to learn on how to lift a kettlebell off the floor and to be able to rest it on your body. Now you have this all important bridge to combine and link multiple exercises together for fat torching flows or to simply combine two exercises like a clean and press. These are just my thoughts on my journey into kettlebells with the issues that I had.

Great beginners' workout but I am a 58 yr old crossfitter and kettlebeller. What would you recommend for older but fit men like myself? I've been working on strength and endurance for the past 6 months with 20kg KB and have recently shifted up to 24kg KB for 2H swings and single arm cleans (started a couple of years ago with 16kg KB). How's this for one of Pavel's WTH effects?! About 6 months ago my max barbell power clean was 47.5kgs. Today as part of our WOD we were to work on a 2 rep max power clean. I knew I was stronger and figured 52.5 would be a good target with 55kg possible. I managed to push my personal best to 60kgs! (they were not pretty because as I tired I found myself receiving the bar as if it were a pair of KBs, so with a slight backward lean (muscle memory I guess). So there is a down side to mixing disciplines.)

I am one of the 50+ club. Although I exercise everyday, I wouldn't consider myself "fit". I just got my adjustable kettlebell on Amazon during Xmas time (it was on sale) but I don't know how to use it that well, I thought it would be easy (using it like dumbells) but after watching a couple of your videos (and I subscribed already), it is not that "easy", I have to be careful to avoid hurting myself. What do you think about adjustable kettlebell? The reason I want it adjustable instead of a fixed weight is, I don't know how heavy or light I can handle (I have the 5lbs to 40lbs one). Thanks

Pavel Tsatsouline has a person stand with their toes against the wall then they have to squat down to grab the kettlebell. The wall stops you if from bending forward to grab the weight. Every tutorial I watch you guys are bending forward to grab the weights and then you swing the weights just below your crotch. I can't figure out who is doing it correctly.

As a 64 year old, being told that simply lifting my arms over my head is “working out” is a bit insulting. I swim two miles non-stop every other day. I don’t know many 25 year olds who can swim even 150 meters.

Ive been working out since this dude was a baby…not sure he realizes how fit older people can be! AND the workouts are intense! ..not sure i like the condescending tone of this video like we don’t understand simple instructions….no need to talk slow. The 50, 60 70 yr olds etc are to be commended for their consistency in the workouts over the years…rare breed! I have logbooks upon logbooks of my workouts…1000’s over the years. Bring on the heavy TGU’s! …steel clubs and maces too! Love them! We may be old but as long as my body is willing im going to workout. One of my sayings is “today im going to do what others wont, so tomorrow i can do what others cant”.

I would cut him some slack, the teacher has to go at the pace of the slowest student, if you and I can do more that is great for us as you called us the rare breed. That's an awesome motivational saying... and very, very true. Don't be so tight with Gregory - he is a well informed and very good instructor. He must cater for beginners so his verbal approach is very different (basic) from what you may be used to. I agree with you - there are indeed many fit older people but regardless of how many we are, we are still a minority in the grand scheme of things.

Lebe , I really like your videos , but , with all due respect ,don't treat the 50s and early 60s like we're old farts. I'm 58 and train to maintain strength and mobility , ride bike 3 times a week and just stared competitive kettellbell sport. Give us something with some meat to it , if you get what I mean. Beginner videos are ok but you have a following of people who train hard and want something to challenge them.
