GM and want to truly “Thank you” for your series of videos on and about the Blackmagic Design cameras and more. In particular the BMPCC OG because I do own one (thinking about getting another) and the 4K & 6K. I’ve invest quite a bit in the DJI ecosystem as well and find the combination of both a good one. But I love the uniqueness and character of the BMPCC OG with vintage / legacy glass and still finding my personal signature when it come to it. I’ve invested Canon FD and other different discontinued German makers and love the experimentation. So again thank you for the priceless inspiration and knowledge in order for me to move forward and grow as a cinematographer. I will research and seek the Veydra!

Wow, thank you very much for the kind words and I’m glad you have found the information helpful! Canon FD are great lenses, I’ve owned a set a few times and love their look. Since making this video I have changed my opinion on Meike cine lenses (the original owner of Veydra has spoken out about the issue and sides with Meike). I still think Veydra is superior but if you are able to get the Meike for a good deal then you will still be very pleased with their performance :)

I'll definitely look into this. Anyone using the M.Zuico lenses? The 17mm is my go to lens but I also have 25 & 45mm. People tell me that I'm crazy for using the original BMPCC cameras to shoot cooking videos but I just love the dynamic range.

It has been 45 years since I owned a camera, but of late I have the Micro Studio 4K, and the Pocket 4K. I knew they had small sensors, but I intended to use FF lenses on them, with a Focal Reducer. The largest mount of the FF cameras is the Canon mount, and there are a huge amount of no-glass converter rings for all manner of legacy lenses. Since I have never used, AUTO focus/diaphragm/white balance/ face and eye tracking/stabilization et al, I am not missing much.

Hi Will. I'm getting the BMPCC OG soon and your videos have been absolutely an amazing resource to get started, cannot thank you enough. If you don't mind, I have a couple question about Speed Boosters. What am I gaining when I get the BMPCC OG Super16 version SB over the regular MFT one? I live in Japan and the OG SB costs around $580 US (quite a bit more expensive than the regular MFT one) and that's a pretty steep cost for an item that can only be used for the Pocket OG... whereas the regular MFT Ultra version can be used with other M43 cameras I own. Although to be honest, I'm not sure how much my M43 Olympus/Panasonics will be used, I think I'm just trying to justify the cost if it can be used for multiple bodies. What's your take? Finally, I'm seeing that the Viltrox version is basically unusable when the lenses are wide opened forcing you to stop down to get any sort of sharpness, do you have any opinions on this? Saying money isn't an issue would be an overstatement... but I'd rather pay once up front than to try out subpar things that don't work properly. Return policies in Japan are basically non-existent and each purchase is like a gamble. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
@WillvonTagen8 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching! The biggest difference between the s16 specific SB is that it reduces crop by .58x as opposed to the standard .71x of most MFT speedboosters. This means that the effective crop factor of the OG with the s16 SB is 1.67x instead of 2.88x crop. If you use a .71x speedbooster it becomes 2.0x crop (still better than 2.88 but not as good as 1.67). I understand you desire for it to work on other MFT cameras, so maybe a good compromise is the .64x MFT Speedbooster. It is a bit more expensive than the .71 but still cheaper than the .58 s16 SB. The .64 can be used on other MFT and would give you a 1.84x crop with the OG. You are correct about Viltrox. The image quality is not as good but it is still an okay budget option. However if you have the budget I would stick to Metabones. Hope this helps!

It really depends on how you plan to shoot. If it’s locked down (tripod) or rigged up (shoulder rig with weight/follow focus etc) and the action you are filming is fairly easy to follow I would go with the Meike primes. If the shoot is more run-and-gun and stripped down (just camera and battery pack) down I would definitely get the Panasonic. The zoom range and image stabilization is best for filming on the fly.

As always very appreciated for your great videos and ideal English which is easy to understand for non native speakers. One question: BMCPP 4k has a gyro stabilization. Having that option lens is lens IS option no longer so crucial?
@WillvonTagen2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tested the Gyro too much, however my biggest issue is that it crops your image (sometimes significantly) once applied-which means you may have issues with your framing getting messed up in post. There is no way to tell how much will be cropped while filming. But I do think it’s a great tool to “fix” footage and get more use from dummy primes. In general i would still stick to IS lenses in a run and gun setting. (Planned out production work I am fine with non IS). Definitely a cool tool though! And much better than the usual post-stabilization 👍🏻

On the OG I think the 35-100 starts out a little too long. 35 is already 100mm equivalent. For the 4K it is also a bit long for my liking. I think a better buy at a similar price point is the Canon 24-105 f/4 IS paired with a speedbooster. It starts a lot wider making it more usable-but still gets you a very long reach on the far end. If you do that be sure to get the F/4. The speedbooster will make it a 2.8 and the only the F/4 has image stabilization.

I don't understand why anyone would buy the Lumix 12-35, when the Olympus Pro 12-40 ditches the horrid 'focus by wire' of the former. The Olympus is just all around a much better lens. It's basically IMPOSSIBLE to pull a manual focus on the Panasonic lenses, and is impossible to repeat a focus move do to the 'focus by wire'. This is very important with the Pocket 4K, as it lacks any usable auto focus.
@WillvonTagen Жыл бұрын
My biggest issue with that lens it that it lacks image stabilization-which I think is beyond important for shooting handheld. My favorite combo is probably speedbooster + Canon 17-55 2.8 with IS. But that’s a much more expensive combo vs the Panasonic. But what ever gets you the results you are happiest with.
@landonp629 Жыл бұрын
@@WillvonTagen The Panasonic lens is nice for IS for sure, but then I guess that is just a workflow difference with me - I rarely do handheld, and when I do its on a full shoulder rig - which does a lot of stabilizing. For handheld stuff, which is rare, I'll just stabilize in post. For me, the most important factor is the focal pulling on the lens. Panasonic chose the Fly-by-wire design, which is fine for cameras with good auto focus - but the pocket 4K lacks that. I suppose the Pocket4K app does replace it somewhat with its remote focus pulling abilities, and it's ability to set recallable A, B, C focus points - but I find that in cases of close focus pulls, I still need to engage the focus wheel - and focus-by-wire lenses don't allow for repeatable focus pulls.

I totally support any creator but I do not get. You showcase shoots where it's either underexposed with crushed contrast or overexposed. I'm looking for one lens for bmcc 4k but quality you have showcased does not pull me into buying any of the lenses you mentioned. Anyway thanks the content.

That's a strange thing to say: "New gear is not a good investment" ...when at the same time you are only ever buying said gear from folks who bought it new. It sounds to me that these people are actually getting a good chunk of their initial investment back. More so than those who are going to be trying to sell their second hand and third hand used camera.

Well, a “good investment” would never involve losing money, that’s the definition of a bad investment. All the gear I buy is generally at least half the cost of what it would have been new. And when I sell that used gear, I am generally able to sell it for about what I paid making it a break-even (also not the definition of a good investment). Someone at some point had to eat half the cost of the gear they purchased new (often times even more, such as with RED camera systems that retail for $50k and end up reselling for $10k several years later). If anything, second and third hand owners are they only people who stand a small chance of getting their money back or pinching out a profit if they are able to buy below market value. No camera system will resell for more than its retail cost. Rare, high end lenses stand the best chance of holding their value, but even those are often a loss too when adjustment is made for inflation etc.

What would be a good price for a Second Hand Used 6k Pro in your opinion.@@WillvonTagen

@@eutorics I've seen a few go on eBay for $1750 and they include a cage and the elf--which is a great deal. Anything in the $1,500-1,800 range is what you should aim for with the 6k pro used depending on what it also includes. You should't pay more than $800 for a pocket 4K used.
