Windy conditions are par for the course while on lake Erie, so be sure to check those wind reports before heading out.
In our latest outing, we couldn't resist sharing our success with the husky jerk. This reliable bait has been a staple for years for walleye, especially in colder waters. But as temperatures rise, it's time to try more aggressive tactics.
Don't forget about jigging, you'll be prepared for deeper waters. And thanks to the south and southwest winds, cleaner water conditions are within reach.
And when it comes to bait, variety is key. Experiment with Z Man minnows or jerk shads to find what works best.
Sometimes slow and steady wins, while other times, a more dynamic approach is needed. Keep an eye on the fish in the boat-they'll help you find the optimal cadence for jigging or casting.
Oh, and one last tip: choose a jig head that's hefty enough to maintain contact with the bottom, especially in windy conditions.
