AWESOME! That you're teaching your daughter this stuff! She was holding back BUT had some power to those strikes too! I worked like with my daughter when she was young, and now she's going to be a Marine Corps Officer! Great video!

Terrific! One small comment, though: when she steps off to the side, her best attack would be (likely) a kick to the side of her attacker's knees, orthogonal to how they naturally bend. That of course is very unsafe to practice because of the huge risk of tearing the ACL, but for a real attack that would be the point. Whenever you do what your opponent doesn't expect, you have an advantage. Few attackers expect to be kicked in the knees from the side.

By far the best system for women (or men!) is Gutter Fighting (aka Defendu). Simple and very brutal!
@tatumergo39315 ай бұрын
Whether Defendu, Combato, or rough and tumble it's all the same. For self-defense you must fight dirty and anything and everything is acceptable. The game is about survival, not sports!

I taught my kids how to defend themselves, and they have. My son was swung on and the guy ended up with a torn rotator cuff. My daughter has used the mindset that I taught her to avoid attacks several times and probably more she’s not aware of, as well as getting away from someone who was trying to harm her. FMA teaches excellent weapons skills so that they can use whatever is at hand and be less afraid to deal with a weapon used against them. Be safe

@raydrexler5868 love it!! Giving our children the gift of self protection, especially in this present reality, is paramount.
@raydrexler58685 ай бұрын
@@lycandefensive I will argue that it was never safe and probably worse when our martial arts ancestors created the arts, but it ain’t changed much. Get your kids healthy and strong, both physically and mentally and when they are ready, arm them with legal tools to protect themselves and others with. Mine are grown now and still carry tools for self protection. Pepper spray (gel with dye is best imo) is a great fight stopper. A good knife, even a firearm if you are willing to train them. Also use the cell phone. Most phones will call 911 on speaker if you tell them to loudly. When dispatch picks up the other end, watch how fast the bad guys find something better to do. Lastly, teach them it’s better to be seen as rude or crazy than a corpse. I would rather be wrong about a good person than a bad one, so if they sense something wrong, do something. Go back inside the store or drive away. Run, or get ready (maybe pre-load your tool into your hand secretly) to fight. Be load and describe exactly what is happening and what the bad guy is doing for witnesses. Don’t expect help in the moment, but do expect witnesses after if they are around.

I wouldn't rule out BJJ for smaller people. Their use of the clinch to reduce an attacker's striking power can come in handy. The clinch can be followed up with grappling skills. Or be used to get an attacker under control until the attack is broken up.
@lycandefensive5 ай бұрын
@CrowdPleeza I wouldn't rule it out either. Obviously, there are many positive attributes to BJJ training, especially in the ways of controlling someone else. And I would never say otherwise. (Myself and my entire family train BJJ). All I'm saying is that there are other options, especially when the goal is to maintain range and distance.

@benconforzi5696 I think it can definitely be beneficial in certain situations. But definitely not the end all be all.

As good men, it's imperative to help show our young ones how to take on life.
@tatumergo39315 ай бұрын
All of this is fine, but for self-defense what works for smaller weaker people is target focus training. Basically regardless of the style or method, you must learn to focus on striking the weak spots of the body. The human body is full of targets which are either timers or switches. Striking a particular one takes time to produce effect, striking another shuts down the body's function.

@Oshaoxin in a perfect world, you'd be correct. But this is a very nieve and ignorant statement for the reality that we find ourselves in. You don't have to look very hard to find examples ranging from sexual assult, human trafficking, straight-up bullying, and pretty much every crime out there that can be committed against another human.

Basically escrimia…unfortunately all those years of training with the stick…complete waste for self defence…because…nobody actually carries sticks except when they go training…should be concentrating on unarmed and defence against knives & groups…all rest is great for teaching kids for self confidence,
@lycandefensive5 ай бұрын
@richardtodd6559 ah man, you almost made a relevant point, yet you just missed completely. There is a lot of benefit here, from body mechanics, to skill transfer, to attribute building, all the way to improvised weapons. Funny thing too, you bring up that we should be focusing on empty hands when the entire premise of the video is empty handed applications of what we would do with the stick and knife. Way to show up and look completely ignorant. Better luck next time. Have a great day.
@tatumergo39315 ай бұрын
You don't need to carry a stick, but you can carry a collapsible baton. There's also a walking cane or stick, but if you happened to be in the Canary islands, in the Portuguese countryside or the south of France. Rest assured that you are going to encounter people going about with sticks.
