I bought this building when it came out. I found an image of the inside of a lumber yard. I sized it and put in inside to give a feeling of more depth. I also found some O scale pallets of shingles and bags of concrete. I spent $15 - $20 to make this building as detailed and full looking as any of my Woodland Scenics buildings that cost twice as much. It’s easily one of my favorites.

I love that you added so much detail! I may have to try that myself!

Good video. I got an oil pump story. I was in Menards and noticed the oil pump on display was missing one of the rivets on the side that pivots for the pumping. I decided to take it up to the service desk so someone would not get stuck with a broken pump. Well it was on my Xmas list. So my wife drove to the same Menards a week later and surprised me with the pump on Xmas. You guessed it. I ended up with that same exact broken pump that I told them about. I decided to fix it. I should have just taken it back. But I have a lot of fix it tools and materials around here. Been working great ever since. Ken

I like that building thanks for showing it … I wish my daughter would like the trains like your son does … it’s great thing to share and pass on
@Dadified86Ай бұрын
Yeah boys tend to gravitate more to trains than girls. Actually I was more focused on cars for a big portion of my life before my son showed more interest in trains. Rekindled my own interest in them and here we are

Nice video! I also have the Menards Cripple Creek sawmill and am very happy with it. There are people on eBay making and selling 3D printed accessories for O scale buildings. I have a realistic looking power saw in my sawmill. Keep the videos coming!

Thanks, Steve! Gonna take a short break during the busy Christmas week but we’ve been on a roll with videos so hopefully there’s enough to keep viewers busy in the meantime. We managed to publish over 100 videos made in 2024! 😅

That is a cool building, Mike! Menard's has a real good selection of accessories, for sure. They are good sized buildings, but they fit nicely on your layout. I'm looking forward the the 3R/4D live stream tomorrow evening. It should be a fun time with Dave. An excellent video, as always.

Great. Now I want the lumber yard! Thanks lol For the lighted vehicles, whether they come pre lit or if I make them, I use black hot glue to seal them up and stop the “underglow”
@Dadified86Ай бұрын
That’s a great tip, thanks for sharing! I’ll have to try that!

I just added the lumber yard to my layout also. I've always wanted one but assumed I missed my chance. I was very surprised and delighted they reissued it. I always thought it never made sense not to. It's just too neat, and it's a lumber yard for crying out loud. I passed on one earlier this year from Trainz. They wanted considerably more for it than Menards selling price.

I’m glad you were able to snag it! And glad they’re back so others can, too!

I’ve got quite a few of these menards buildings now and I agree with you, they’re pretty decent for the price to have prelit lights and plug and play system. But like you said they’re essentially just glorified cardboard buildings. I kinda wish menards would just release the electronics for the plug and play system so that we could purchase generic building kits and then put their lighting system in. Especially since they discontinue their buildings from time to time.

I agree this might be one of their best buldings!

You can also order them online or just do free in-store pickup! Works great if they don’t have them on the shelf at your store, especially considering they might not do many since it’s a second run:

I’m glad your experience with Menards has been better than mine. I would caution anyone attempting to purchase from Menards online that they don’t practice the best business practices or customer service. I had purchased over $450 worth of train items from Menards, and unfortunately, almost every item arrived damaged or defective. They did provide a return for the product, however even though they were responsible for sending the damaged and defective product, they still proceeded to charge a 25% restocking fee and charged for shipping and return shipping. In the end, I was left with almost $150 worth of charges and no product to show for it since they would not even replace the damaged items; they only restock them at my expense. Buyer Beware!

That is unfortunate to hear about your experience, but I can definitely see how frustrating that would be! I've had generally positive experiences with them but nearly everything I get is something I can go to the store and hold in my hand first. I always check for visual defects and there have been some I avoided because they didn’t look like they were gonna hold up, so it doesn’t surprise me that getting stuff shipped would be risky. What I would rather see is better customer service or reimbursement to at least handle the inevitable issue. Sorry for the troubles you’ve had but glad you let us know!!

I'm an HO scale railroader and I have an oil pump and the same problem has happened to me just put some super glue by where the gear connects to the shaft or whatever you want to call it. This has worked for me
@Dadified86Ай бұрын
Yeah upon inspection the same is happening to mine. Hopefully that does it. Thanks for the heads up!

Picked em up from Target during Christmas. I think most craft stores would have them. Sometimes they’re called fairy lights or pixie lights.

We almost did LEGO for our trains! In fact a lot of our early O-Gauge days had Lego buildings and even a station. They should be in previous videos if you haven’t seen em before.
