On Pokemon Blue Rescue, my son taught his Raichu 3 THIEVES, equip with friend bow, 4 revive seeds, 2 max elixirs, ignored the items in Wyvern hill and recruited Kecleon.

Squad Up isn't actually needed (and I'm glad it isn't because an 8 member team is too clunky). All that's required to hit the hard cap of +50% recruit rate is a high enough level lead Pokémon with Friend Bow and False Swipe, plus Friendly and Invite Orb support. I had Mega Pinsir for my False Swipe user because Aerilate gives it STAB and makes it super effective when Kecleon's type is changed by your super effective Fighting move. With this I found one more thing to note, Empowerment Seeds can't be eaten when the Kecleon chase is active.

It worked. Thank you so much! I have been strugging getting Kecleon and even gone as far as doing Joyous Tower twice. If that wasn't difficult enough, I spent 2-3 days in a row just trying and almost giving up hope when I finally decided to follow this guide. xD I got one and I honestly thought it would fail like the other attempts I had done because I tried this before. I wonder a little since the previous attempts my partners were lvl 60-70. But in this attempt I chose other Pokemon that had Friendly and Square up which were lvl 100. I wanted to be sure that I got the full boost of it all. I dunno whether it was just luck or the level gaps. But to be on the safe side, I think maybe people should try with high levels. It isn't anything difficult either. Pokemon level up so fast in this game. I got almost all my mons to 100 by now with 200+ hours worth of gameplay. ^_^

Kecleon could had single-handly saved the world. But nah. He wants the sell merchandise in dungeons. Theory time btw. How does Kecleon get his items? I dunno if this happens in the OG PMD, but in PMD2 Explorers, whenever you lose to him, all your items in your bag are replaced with Plain Seeds. My guess is when he knocks you out, he takes all your items to sell them. It's another method aside him picking up items from dungeons and selling them. He is a thief himself. A master thief. Kecleon 117. The Master Thief. -I'm sorry.-

Your third teammate’s Rare Quality can be Notorious Fasting, so food isn’t an issue

You could also be lucky and have an escort mission on Unown Relic, as the client doesn't make you start with 4 empty recruit slots. (If Squad Up gives better chances with 9 members, then great)

That Kec does eventually get the massively broken stats you'd expect. It just takes level grinding but they're worth it.

these are great ideas but i personally find it easier to just go alone using the friend bow, invite orb, and friendly rare quality tbh. that way i dont have to worry about teammates and just dodge orb on myself and such. it might be better and less resource heavy as well to tunnel wand and simply resort to boxing yourself in so they cant hit you as easily. just do it all after scoping out the stairs and your fine. i understand the purpose of squad up and false swipe but i got mine without either of these and find it easier to just go with friendly, invite orb and friend bow (plenty adequate at lv 80+ it seems like now). might take a bit more patience but i dont think the winds will blow easily like they used to at least =)

Picking two pokemon with Lonely Courage and Squad Up is also a good idea if you have boosted your stats, you just make them wait inside walls and you get the Lonely Courage boost, only problem is you probably won't be able to bring a lot of recruits inside.

Do NOT recruit anything else. If your newly recruited partners use the finishing blow the kec will not be able to join you!

But without (the dead) unown the squad up rare quality doesnt do anything. Kecleon is really strong. I think itll rarely happen that the garbage unown will deal the final blow.

Just set the team tactical meeting to "Do not use moves", and your partner won't attack Kec. It's just that newly recruited partner won't obey that tactic tho, so just don't recruit anyone before farming Kec if you worry about that
