Excellent information! I’m glad you’re talking about this subject, and I hope many new RVers find this video early in their RV journey. When we were new to RVs, I had no idea just how quickly those pesky little creatures could find your rig and move in. If you put your rig in storage (even for a couple of weeks) - remove ALL foodstuffs (only leave unopened cans or jars) and seal every hole you can find (no matter how small). We won’t even leave a grate from the grill behind unless it has been thoroughly cleaned. For prevention, we’ve used it all - dryer sheets, scented floral bags (especially in the engine compartment), aluminum foil, steel wool. You can win this battle if you stay ahead of it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences.

A string on the glue-trap.... Whooda thought! ✨ What a video!

I'm glad it was helpful Kathy. Yes, the string worked great. It not only kept the mice from dragging the glue trap off into a hidden area of the ceiling but it also made it kind of easy to pull the trap with dead mice out of the vent hole. I used rubber gloves and dropped the glue trap into a plastic bucket to dispose of it. It actually worked pretty well for us. Thanks for watching!

I used the glue traps on 2 occasions 2 mice the first time and 4 the next. I found putting a 1/2 pranut stuck in the middle of trap attracts and keeps them there long enough to help them stick.

Old school mouse traps with a bit of tootsie roll molded into the bait holder, so they can’t take it. Typically after one is caught the bait is still there ready to get another.

Thanks for the information. What do you think about putting out a bowl of cloves in the RV for the scent apparently they don’t like.

It's worth a try John. But like all other mouse preventatives, it may or may not work. So if it doesn't just move on and try something else. :-)

What areas UNDER the RV need sealing to KEEP THEM OUT
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare 6 ай бұрын
Wherever there is anything that reaches from the ground up to the underbelly of the RV is where you should be looking especially for holes where they can enter into the RV. This includes wheel wells, around the power cord, sewer hose, and water hose. And if you have a motorhome it would include around the leveling jacks and any mudflaps. It's best to take a flashlight and look over the underbelly in those areas very carefully. And remember they only need a hole the size of a dime to get in.

We are living in our 2004 5th wheel while building our home. Now that fall has arrived and it's colder (Colorado) we are fighting the mice! Referring to the bait in the ceiling, if they consume it will they die in the ceiling? Just thinking about the odor. Thanks!

Unfortunately, there is that possibility. But so far we have not detected any smell in our rig. The big issue is that a lot of wires are often run through the ceiling area as the RV is constructed and if they start chewing on them it can do a tremendous amount of damage that is hard to fix easily. So I always felt that even if I had to put up with a bad smell for a few days, it was worth it.

Thanks for the video! Has anyone out there tried predator urine?
@RVInspectionAndCare

I mentioned predator pee in one of my previous videos. It appears to work like so many other mouse prevention ideas, that is it works for some and doesn't work for others. It's worth a try though.

Do ultrasonic systems work?

I tried them and they didn't work for me Sean. As I said in the video, they seem to work for others though and there doesn't seem to be a clear explanation why that is the case. My best advice on any mouse prevention idea is to try it and see if it works. If it doesn't, move on to something else. Thanks for watching!

Dryer sheets, like the cheapest ones you can get of the store brand. Doesn't completely prevent mice from entering, but keeps them from sticking around for a few cents worth of effort. They don't like the smell, put 1-2 of them in the void spaces like under the sinks, bottom of the drawers, closets, etc.. Like you mentioned in the video could be regional, works well in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana though.

good ideas, except please be aware mice that DON"T DIE can and will kill owls and hawks and other animals that might eat the mice that didn't get a lethal dose of killer. Thank you

The subject of mice in RVs is a difficult one. And there are no easy solutions. When you are in the middle of an all-out siege, of mice it's like a war that is being waged. And whatever each person chooses to do to resolve the issue is up to them in my opinion. Ideally poison would not be needed in any circumstances. But in some cases, it becomes necessary even though it may have negative side effects. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject though.

This is exactly why more and more birds and animals die due to humans. Please do NOT use the poisons.
